Przysłów 24
1 Nie zazdrość złym ludziom ani nie pragnij z nimi przebywać;
Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 Ich serce bowiem obmyśla przemoc, a ich wargi mówią o krzywdzie.
For their heart studieth oppression, and their lips talk of mischief.
3 Dom buduje się mądrością, a umacnia się rozumem.
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
4 Dzięki wiedzy komory będą napełnione wszelkimi kosztownymi i przyjemnymi bogactwami.
And by knowledge are the chambers filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
5 Mądry człowiek jest silny, a mąż, który ma wiedzę, dodaje siły.
A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth might.
6 Bo dzięki mądrej radzie poprowadzisz wojnę, a mnóstwo doradców [da ci] wybawienie.
For by wise guidance thou shalt make thy war: and in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
7 Mądrość jest dla głupca zbyt wzniosła; nie otwiera ust swoich w bramie.
Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
8 Kto knuje zło, będzie zwany złośliwym.
He that deviseth to do evil, men shall call him a mischievous person.
9 Obmyślanie głupoty [jest] grzechem, a szyderca budzi odrazę w ludziach.
The thought of the foolish is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
10 Jeśli w dniu ucisku ustaniesz, twoja siła jest słaba.
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
11 [Jeśli] odmówisz ratunku prowadzonym na śmierć i tym, którzy idą na stracenie;
Deliver them that are carried away unto death, and those that are ready to be slain see that thou hold back.
12 Jeśli powiesz: Nie wiedzieliśmy o tym; czy ten, który waży serca, nie rozumie? A ten, który strzeże twojej duszy, nie pozna? I czy nie odda człowiekowi według jego uczynków?
If thou sayest, Behold, we knew not this: doth not he that weigheth the hearts consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his work?
13 Synu mój, jedz miód, bo jest dobry, i plaster miodu słodki dla twojego podniebienia.
My son, eat thou honey, for it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:
14 Tak [będzie] poznanie mądrości dla twojej duszy; jeśli ją znajdziesz, będzie nagroda, a twoja nadzieja nie będzie zawiedziona.
So shalt thou know wisdom to be unto thy soul: if thou hast found it, then shall there be a reward, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
15 Nie czyhaj, niegodziwcze, przed mieszkaniem sprawiedliwego, nie burz miejsca jego odpoczynku;
Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
16 Bo sprawiedliwy upada siedem razy, jednak znowu powstaje; a niegodziwi popadną w nieszczęście.
For a righteous man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.
17 Nie ciesz się, gdy twój nieprzyjaciel upadnie, i niech twoje serce się nie raduje, gdy się potknie;
Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he is overthrown:
18 Aby PAN tego nie widział i nie uznał za zło, i nie odwrócił od niego swojego gniewu.
Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
19 Nie gniewaj się z powodu złoczyńców ani nie zazdrość niegodziwym;
Fret not thyself because of evil-doers; neither be thou envious at the wicked:
20 Bo zły nie otrzyma nagrody, pochodnia niegodziwych zostanie zgaszona.
For there will be no reward to the evil man; the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
21 Synu mój, bój się PANA i króla, a nie przestawaj z chwiejnymi;
My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: [and] meddle not with them that are given to change:
22 Bo ich nieszczęście nastąpi nagle, a któż zna upadek obydwóch?
For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the destruction of them both?
23 I to też [należy] do mądrych. Niedobrze jest mieć wzgląd na osobę w sądzie.
These also are [sayings] of the wise. To have respect of persons in judgment is not good.
24 Kto mówi niegodziwemu: Jesteś sprawiedliwy, tego będą ludzie przeklinać, a narody będą się nim brzydzić.
He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; peoples shall curse him, nations shall abhor him:
25 A ci, którzy [go] strofują, będą szczęśliwi i przyjdzie na nich obfite błogosławieństwo.
But to them that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
26 Pocałują wargi tego, który daje słuszną odpowiedź.
He kisseth the lips that giveth a right answer.
27 Przygotuj swoją pracę na zewnątrz, a wykonuj ją na swoim polu, a potem buduj swój dom.
Prepare thy work without, and make it ready for thee in the field; and afterwards build thine house.
28 Nie bądź bez powodu świadkiem przeciw swemu bliźniemu ani nie oszukuj swymi wargami.
Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.
29 Nie mów: Zrobię mu, jak on mi zrobił, oddam temu człowiekowi według jego uczynku.
Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me; I will render to the man according to his work.
30 Szedłem koło pola leniwego i koło winnicy nierozumnego;
I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
31 A oto wszystko zarosło cierniem, pokrzywy pokryły wszystko, a kamienny mur był zburzony.
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, the face thereof was covered with nettles, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
32 Spojrzałem i rozważałem w sercu; obejrzałem i wyciągnąłem naukę.
Then I beheld, and considered well: I saw, and received instruction.
33 Trochę snu, trochę drzemania, trochę założenia rąk, by odpocząć;
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
34 A twoje ubóstwo przyjdzie jak podróżny, a niedostatek – jak mąż uzbrojony.
So shall thy poverty come as a robber; and thy want as an armed man.
