1 Gdy Balaam zauważył, że PAN upodobał sobie błogosławić Izraela, nie poszedł jak przedtem szukać wróżby, lecz zwrócił swoją twarz ku pustyni.
When Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] saw that it pleased Adonai to bless Israel [God prevails], he didn’t go, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
2 I Balaam podniósł swoje oczy, i zobaczył Izraela obozującego według swoich pokoleń. Wtedy Duch Boży spoczął na nim.
Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel [God prevails] dwelling according to their tribes; and the breath mind Spirit of God came on him.
3 I rozpoczął swoją przypowieść tymi słowy: Wypowiedź Balaama, syna Beora, wypowiedź człowieka, który ma otwarte oczy;
He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] the son of Beor says, the man whose eyes are open says;
4 Wypowiedź tego, który słyszał słowa Boga, który miał widzenie Wszechmocnego, a padając, miał otwarte oczy:
he says, who sh'ma ·hears obeys· the words of God, who sees the vision of Shaddai [Almighty], falling down, and having his eyes open:
5 Jak piękne są twoje namioty, Jakubie, twoje przybytki, Izraelu!
How goodly are your tents, Jacob [Supplanter], and your tents, Israel [God prevails]!
6 Rozciągnęły się jak doliny, jak ogrody przy rzece, jak aloesy, które PAN zasadził, jak cedry nad wodami.
As valleys they are spread out, as gardens by the riverside, as aloes which Adonai has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.
7 Popłynie woda z jego wiadra, jego nasienie [będzie] w wielu wodach, jego król przewyższy Agaga i jego królestwo będzie wyniesione.
Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.
8 Bóg wyprowadził go z Egiptu, jego moc jest jak u jednorożca; pożre wrogie sobie narody, pokruszy ich kości i przeszyje [je] swymi strzałami.
God brings him out of Egypt [Abode of slavery]. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.
9 Położył się, leży jak lew, jak silny lew: któż go obudzi? Błogosławiony ten, kto cię błogosławi, a przeklęty ten, kto cię przeklina.
He couched, he lay down as a lion, as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Everyone who blesses you is blessed. Everyone who curses you is cursed.”
10 Wtedy zapłonął gniew Balaka na Balaama i klasnął w dłonie. I Balak powiedział do Balaama: Wezwałem cię, abyś przeklinał moich wrogów, a oto już trzy razy ich błogosławiłeś.
Balak’s anger burned against Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people], and he struck his hands together. Balak said to Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people], “I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.
11 Uciekaj więc teraz do siebie. Powiedziałem, że wielce cię uczczę, lecz oto PAN pozbawił cię [tej] czci.
Therefore now flee you to your place! I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, Adonai has kept you back from honor.”
12 I Balaam powiedział do Balaka: Czy i twoim posłom, których do mnie wysłałeś, nie powiedziałem:
Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] said to Balak, “Didn’t I also tell your messengers who you sent to me, saying,
13 Choćby Balak dał mi swój dom pełen srebra i złota, nie będę mógł przekroczyć słowa PANA, bym sam z siebie uczynił coś dobrego lub złego; co PAN mi powie, to będę mówił.
‘If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond Adonai’s word, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what Adonai says’?
14 Teraz idę do mego ludu, ale chodź i oznajmię ci, co ten lud uczyni twemu ludowi w przyszłości.
Now, behold, I go to my people. Come, I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.”
15 I rozpoczął swoją przypowieść tymi słowy: Wypowiedź Balaama, syna Beora, wypowiedź człowieka, który ma otwarte oczy;
He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] the son of Beor says, the man whose eyes are open says;
16 Wypowiedź tego, który słyszał słowa Boga, który ma wiedzę o Najwyższym, który miał widzenie Wszechmocnego, a padając, miał otwarte oczy:
he says, who sh'ma ·hears obeys· the words of God, knows the knowledge of haElyon [the Most High], and who sees the vision of Shaddai [Almighty], Falling down, and having his eyes open:
17 Ujrzę go, ale nie teraz; zobaczę go, ale nie z bliska; gwiazda wzejdzie z Jakuba, berło powstanie z Izraela i pobije książąt Moabu oraz wytraci wszystkich synów Seta.
I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob [Supplanter]. A scepter will rise out of Israel [God prevails], and shall strike through the corners of Moab [From father], and break down all the sons of Sheth.
18 Edom stanie się posiadłością, Seir też stanie się posiadłością swoich wrogów, a Izrael będzie sobie poczynał mężnie.
Edom [Red] shall be a possession. Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Israel [God prevails] does valiantly.
19 Z Jakuba powstanie władca i wyniszczy resztki miasta.
Out of Jacob [Supplanter] shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.”
20 A gdy spojrzał na Amaleka, rozpoczął swą przypowieść tymi słowy: Amalek [był] pierwszym z narodów, lecz jego końcem będzie wieczna zguba.
He looked at Amalek [Man who licks up], and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek [Man who licks up] was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”
21 Potem spojrzał na Kenitów i rozpoczął swą przypowieść tymi słowy: Twoje mieszkanie jest mocne, a swoje gniazdo założyłeś na skale;
He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.
22 A jednak Kenita będzie spustoszony, aż Aszszur weźmie cię w niewolę.
Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive.”
23 Znowu rozpoczął swą przypowieść tymi słowy: Ach! Któż żyw zostanie, gdy Bóg to uczyni?
He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?
24 [Przypłyną] bowiem okręty od wybrzeża Kittim i pognębią Aszszur, pognębią też Eber; lecz i oni sami zginą na zawsze.
But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction.”
25 Potem Balaam wstał i odszedł, i wrócił do siebie. Balak także poszedł swoją drogą.
Balaam [Not people, Destroyer of people] rose up, and went and teshuvah ·completely returned· to his place; and Balak also went his way.
