1 Biada krwawemu miastu! [Jest ono] całe pełne kłamstwa i grabieży, a łup z niego nie wychodzi.
Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and rapine; the prey departeth not.
2 [Słychać] trzask biczów, grzmot kół, tupanie koni i podskakiwanie rydwanów.
The noise of the whip, and the noise of the rattling of wheels; and pransing horses, and jumping chariots;
3 Jeździec dobywa błyszczący miecz i lśniący oszczep. Mnóstwo rannych i tak wielka ilość trupów, że nie można ich zliczyć; potykają się o zwłoki.
the horseman mounting, and the flashing sword, and the glittering spear; and a multitude of slain, and a great heap of carcases: and there is none end of the corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:
4 Z powodu mnóstwa czynów nierządu tej rozkosznej nierządnicy, mistrzyni czarów, która zaprzedawała narody swoim nierządem i ludy swoimi czarami.
because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the well favoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
5 Oto jestem przeciwko tobie, mówi PAN zastępów, odkryję poły twojej [szaty] aż do twarzy i ukażę narodom twoją nagość, a królestwom – twoją hańbę.
Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face; and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
6 Rzucę na ciebie obrzydliwości, znieważę cię i wystawię cię na widowisko.
And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.
7 Ten, kto cię ujrzy, oddali się od ciebie i powie: Zburzona jest Niniwa, któż będzie jej żałował? Gdzie mam szukać dla ciebie pocieszycieli?
And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
8 Czy jesteś lepsza niż ludne [miasto] No, które leżało pomiędzy rzekami, otoczone wodami, którego wałem było morze i morze jego murem?
Art thou better than No-amon, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about her; whose rampart was the sea, [and] her wall was of the sea?
9 Etiopia i Egipt [były] jego siłą, nieograniczona; Put i Libijczycy byli jego pomocą.
Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.
10 Ono jednak zostało uprowadzone do niewoli, jego niemowlęta roztrzaskiwano na rogach wszystkich ulic, o jego najsławniejszych rzucano losy i wszystkich jego wielkich zakuto w kajdany.
Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 Także i ty będziesz upojona. Ukryjesz się i będziesz szukać pomocy przeciwko wrogowi.
Thou also shalt be drunken, thou shalt be hid; thou also shalt seek a strong hold because of the enemy.
12 Wszystkie twoje twierdze [są] jak drzewo figowe z wczesnymi owocami. Gdy się nimi potrząśnie, wpadają do ust jedzącego.
All thy fortresses shall be [like] fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Oto twój lud pośród ciebie to kobiety. Bramy twojej ziemi będą szeroko otwarte przed twoimi wrogami. Ogień strawi twoje rygle.
Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women; the gates of thy land are set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire hath devoured thy bars.
14 Naczerp sobie wody na oblężenie, umacniaj swoje twierdze. Wejdź w błoto, depcz glinę i napraw piec.
Draw thee water for the siege, strengthen thy fortresses: go into the clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brickkiln.
15 Tam cię pochłonie ogień, wytnie cię miecz, pożre cię jak larwa. Rozmnóż się jak larwa, rozmnóż się jak szarańcza.
There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locust.
16 Rozmnożyłaś swoich kupców ponad gwiazdy niebios. Jak larwa pożerają i odlatują.
Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.
17 Twoi szlachetni [są] jak szarańcza, twoi dowódcy – jak wielkie koniki polne, które siadają na płotach w czasie zimy, [lecz gdy] słońce wschodzi, odlatują i nie wiadomo, gdzie są.
Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy marshals as the swarms of grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
18 Drzemią twoi pasterze, królu Asyrii! Twoi sławni będą leżeć, twój lud rozproszył się po górach, ale nikt go nie zgromadzi.
Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy worthies are at rest: thy people are scattered upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.
19 Nie ma lekarstwa na twoją ranę, twoje zranienie jest nieuleczalne. Wszyscy, którzy usłyszą wieść o tobie, będą klaskać w dłonie nad tobą. Kogo bowiem nie dotykało nieustannie twoje okrucieństwo?
There is no assuaging of thy hurt; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee clap the hands over thee; for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
