1 Po śmierci Jozuego synowie Izraela pytali PANA: Któż z nas wyruszy pierwszy przeciwko Kananejczykom, aby walczyć z nimi?

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?

2 I PAN powiedział: Wyruszy Juda. Oto dałem ziemię w jego ręce.

And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.

3 Juda powiedział do swego brata Symeona: Chodź ze mną do mego losu, a będziemy walczyć z Kananejczykami. Potem ja pójdę z tobą do twego losu. I Symeon poszedł z nim.

And Judah said to Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

4 Wyruszył więc Juda, a PAN wydał Kananejczyków i Peryzzytów w ich ręce i zabili w Bezek dziesięć tysięcy mężczyzn.

And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.

5 W Bezek znaleźli Adoni-Bezeka i walczyli z nim, i zabili Kananejczyków i Peryzzytów.

And they found Adonibezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they slew the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 I Adoni-Bezek uciekł, oni zaś ścigali go; a gdy go pojmali, ucięli mu kciuki u rąk i [paluchy] u nóg.

But Adonibezek fled; and they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.

7 Wtedy Adoni-Bezek powiedział: Siedemdziesięciu królów z obciętymi kciukami u rąk i [paluchami] u nóg zbierało [okruchy] pod moim stołem. Jak ja uczyniłem, tak mi Bóg odpłacił. I przyprowadzili go do Jerozolimy, i tam umarł.

And Adonibezek said, seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I have done, so God hath repaid me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

8 Przedtem bowiem synowie Judy walczyli przeciwko Jerozolimie, zdobyli ją i pobili ostrzem miecza, a miasto spalili ogniem.

Now the children of Judah had fought against Jerusalem, and had taken it, and smitten it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.

9 Potem synowie Judy wyruszyli, aby walczyć z Kananejczykami mieszkającymi w górach, na południu i na nizinie.

And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt on the mountain, and in the south, and in the valley.

10 Następnie Juda wyruszył przeciwko Kananejczykom, którzy mieszkali w Hebronie (a Hebron przedtem nazywał się Kiriat-Arba), i pobił Szeszaja, Achimana i Talmaja.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba: ) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Stamtąd wyruszył przeciwko mieszkańcom Debiru, a Debir przedtem nazywał się Kiriat-Sefer.

And from there he went against the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before was Kirjathsepher:

12 I Kaleb powiedział: Temu, kto pobije Kiriat-Sefer i zdobędzie je, dam swoją córkę Aksę za żonę.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter for a wife.

13 Zdobył je Otniel, syn Kenaza, młodszego brata Kaleba. I dał mu swoją córkę Aksę za żonę.

And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter for a wife.

14 A gdy ona przyszła do niego, namawiała go, aby prosił jej ojca o pole; i zsiadła z osła, a Kaleb zapytał ją: Czego sobie życzysz?

And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she got off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, What wilt thou?

15 A ona odpowiedziała: Daj mi błogosławieństwo. Skoro dałeś mi ziemię południową, daj mi też źródła wód. I Kaleb dał jej źródła górne i źródła dolne.

And she said to him, Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a south land; give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

16 Synowie Kenity, teścia Mojżesza, wyruszyli z miasta palm razem z synami Judy na pustynię Judy leżącą na południu od Arad. Gdy tam przybyli, zamieszkali z ludem.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.

17 Potem Juda wyruszył ze swym bratem Symeonem i zabili Kananejczyków mieszkających w Sefat, i zburzyli je, i nazwali to miasto Chorma.

And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Juda zdobył też Gazę wraz z jej granicami, Aszkelon wraz z jego granicami i Ekron wraz z jego granicami.

Also Judah took Gaza with its land, and Askelon with its land, and Ekron with its land.

19 I PAN był z Judą, który posiadł górę, lecz nie mógł wypędzić mieszkańców doliny, bo ci mieli żelazne rydwany.

And the LORD was with Judah; and he drove out the inhabitants of the mountain; but could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.

20 Kalebowi zaś dano Hebron, jak powiedział Mojżesz. Stamtąd wygnał [on] trzech synów Anaka.

And they gave Hebron to Caleb, as Moses said: and he drove out from there the three sons of Anak.

21 Ale synowie Beniamina nie wygnali Jebusytów mieszkających w Jerozolimie; dlatego Jebusyci mieszkają z synami Beniamina w Jerozolimie aż do dziś.

And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

22 Wyruszył też dom Józefa przeciwko Betel, a PAN był z nim.

And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Bethel: and the LORD was with them.

23 I dom Józefa wyszpiegował Betel – a miasto [to] przedtem nazywało się Luz.

And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.)

24 A gdy szpiedzy zobaczyli człowieka wychodzącego z miasta, powiedzieli do niego: Prosimy, pokaż nam wejście do miasta, a okażemy ci miłosierdzie.

And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will show thee mercy.

25 I pokazał im wejście do miasta, a oni pobili miasto ostrzem miecza, lecz tego człowieka wraz z całą jego rodziną puścili wolno.

And when he showed them the entrance into the city, they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let go the man and all his family.

26 I tak człowiek ten udał się do ziemi Chetytów, zbudował miasto i nadał mu nazwę Luz. To jest jego nazwa aż do dziś.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name of it Luz: which is its name to this day.

27 Manasses nie wypędził też [mieszkańców] Bet-Szean i jego miasteczek ani [mieszkańców] Tanaku i jego miasteczek, ani mieszkańców Dor i jego miasteczek, ani mieszkańców Jibleam i jego miasteczek, ani mieszkańców Megiddo i jego miasteczek. Kananejczycy nadal mieszkali więc w tej ziemi.

Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Bethshean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

28 A gdy Izrael się wzmocnił, kazał Kananejczykom płacić daninę i nie wygnał ich.

And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour, and did not utterly drive them out.

29 Także i Efraim nie wypędził Kananejczyków mieszkających w Gezer, dlatego Kananejczycy mieszkali wśród nich w Gezer.

Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.

30 Zebulon [również] nie wypędził mieszkańców Kitron ani mieszkańców Nahalol, dlatego Kananejczycy mieszkali wśród nich i płacili [im] daninę.

Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became forced labourers.

31 Aszer także nie wypędził mieszkańców Akko ani mieszkańców Sydonu, Achlab, Akzibu, Chelba, Afik i Rechob.

Neither did Asher drive out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:

32 I Aszer mieszkał pośród Kananejczyków mieszkających w tej ziemi, gdyż ich nie wypędził.

But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.

33 Neftali [też] nie wypędził mieszkańców Bet-Szemesz ani mieszkańców Bet-Anat i mieszkał wśród Kananejczyków mieszkających w tej ziemi. Jednakże mieszkańcy Bet-Szemesz i Bet-Anat płacili [mu] daninę.

Neither did Naphtali drive out the inhabitants of Bethshemesh, nor the inhabitants of Bethanath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Bethanath became forced labourers to them.

34 Amoryci zaś wyparli synów Dana w góry, tak że nie pozwalali im schodzić do doliny.

And the Amorites forced the children of Dan to the mountain: for they would not allow them to come down to the valley:

35 Amoryci utrzymali się i mieszkali na górze Cheres, w Ajjalonie i w Szaalbin, lecz wzmocniła się ręka domu Józefa i zaczęli mu płacić daninę.

But the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became forced labourers.

36 A granica Amorytów [biegła] od wzniesienia do Akrabbim, od skały i wyżej.

And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent to Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
