Jozuego 9
1 A gdy usłyszeli o tym wszyscy królowie, którzy byli po tej stronie Jordanu w górach, na równinach i nad całym brzegiem Morza Wielkiego aż po Liban: Chetyci, Amoryci, Kananejczycy, Peryzzyci, Chiwwici i Jebusyci:
And it cometh to pass, when all the kings who [are] beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the low-country, and in every haven of the great sea, over-against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, hear —
2 Zebrali się razem, aby jednomyślnie walczyć przeciw Jozuemu i Izraelowi.
that they gather themselves together to fight with Joshua, and with Israel — one mouth.
3 Lecz mieszkańcy Gibeonu, gdy usłyszeli o tym, co Jozue uczynił z Jerychem i Aj;
And the inhabitants of Gibeon have heard that which Joshua hath done to Jericho and to Ai,
4 Użyli podstępu i wyruszyli, udając posłów, i wzięli stare wory na swoje osły i stare, popękane i połatane bukłaki na wino;
and they work, even they, with subtilty, and go, and feign to be ambassadors, and take old sacks for their asses, and wine-bottles, old, and rent, and bound up,
5 I stare, i połatane obuwie na nogi, stare szaty na siebie, a cały chleb, który ze sobą zabrali w drogę, był suchy i spleśniały.
and sandals, old and patched, on their feet, and old garments upon them, and all the bread of their provision is dry — it was crumbs.
6 Wtedy przybyli do Jozuego, do obozu w Gilgal, i powiedzieli do niego i do mężczyzn Izraela: Przyszliśmy z dalekiego kraju. Zawrzyjcie więc teraz przymierze z nami.
And they go unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, and say unto him, and unto the men of Israel, 'From a land far off we have come, and now, make with us a covenant;'
7 Lecz mężczyźni Izraela odpowiedzieli Chiwwitom: A może mieszkacie wśród nas, jakże więc możemy zawrzeć z wami przymierze?
and the men of Israel say unto the Hivite, 'It may be in our midst ye are dwelling, and how do we make with thee a covenant?'
8 A oni powiedzieli Jozuemu: Jesteśmy twoimi sługami. I Jozue zapytał ich: Kim jesteście i skąd przybywacie?
and they say unto Joshua, 'Thy servants we [are].' And Joshua saith unto them, 'Who [are] ye? and whence come ye?'
9 Odpowiedzieli mu: Twoi słudzy przybyli z bardzo dalekiego kraju ze względu na imię PANA, twego Boga. Usłyszeliśmy bowiem o jego sławie oraz o wszystkim, co uczynił w Egipcie;
And they say unto him, 'From a land very far off have thy servants come, for the name of Jehovah thy God, for we have heard His fame, and all that He hath done in Egypt,
10 I o wszystkim, co uczynił dwom królom amoryckim, którzy byli za Jordanem, Sichonowi, królowi Cheszbonu, i Ogowi, królowi Baszanu, który [był] w Asztarot.
and all that He hath done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who [is] in Ashtaroth.
11 I nasi starsi i wszyscy mieszkańcy naszego kraju nakazali nam: Weźcie ze sobą żywność na drogę, wyjdźcie im naprzeciw i powiedzcie im: Jesteśmy waszymi sługami, zawrzyjcie więc teraz przymierze z nami.
'And our elders, and all the inhabitants of our land speak unto us, saying, Take in your hand provision for the way, and go to meet them, and ye have said unto them, Your servants we [are], and now, make with us a covenant;
12 Ten nasz chleb był jeszcze ciepły, gdy wzięliśmy go z naszych domów w dniu, kiedy wyruszyliśmy do was; a teraz jest suchy i spleśniały.
this our bread — hot we provided ourselves with it out of our houses, on the day of our coming out to go unto you, and now, lo, it is dry, and hath been crumbs;
13 I te bukłaki na wino, które napełniliśmy, były nowe, a oto popękały. Także nasze szaty i obuwie zniszczyły się z powodu bardzo długiej podróży.
and these [are] the wine-bottles which we filled, new, and lo, they have rent; and these, our garments and our sandals, have become old, from the exceeding greatness of the way.'
14 A mężczyźni [Izraela] wzięli z ich żywności, lecz nie radzili się PANA.
And the men take of their provision, and the mouth of Jehovah have not asked;
15 Wtedy Jozue zawarł z nimi pokój i ustanowił z nimi przymierze, że zachowa ich przy życiu. Także naczelnicy zgromadzenia im przysięgli.
and Joshua maketh with them peace, and maketh with them a covenant, to keep them alive; and swear to them do the princes of the company.
16 Lecz po trzech dniach, po zawarciu z nimi przymierza, usłyszeli, że są oni sąsiadami i że mieszkają wśród nich.
And it cometh to pass, at the end of three days after that they have made with them a covenant, that they hear that they [are] their neighbours — that in their midst they are dwelling.
17 Wtedy synowie Izraela wyruszyli i po trzech dniach dotarli do ich miast. Miastami ich były: Gibeon, Kefira, Beerot i Kiriat-Jearim.
And the sons of Israel journey and come in unto their cities on the third day — and their cities [are] Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-Jearim —
18 I nie wytracili ich synowie Izraela, gdyż naczelnicy zgromadzenia przysięgli im na PANA, Boga Izraela. I całe zgromadzenie szemrało przeciw naczelnikom.
and the sons of Israel have not smitten them, for sworn to them have the princes of the company by Jehovah God of Israel, and all the company murmur against the princes.
19 I wszyscy naczelnicy powiedzieli do całego zgromadzenia: Przysięgliśmy im na PANA, Boga Izraela, dlatego teraz nie możemy ich tknąć.
And all the princes say unto all the company, 'We — we have sworn to them by Jehovah, God of Israel; and now, we are not able to come against them;
20 Tak więc postąpimy z nimi: zachowamy ich przy życiu, żeby nie spadł na nas gniew z powodu przysięgi, którą im złożyliśmy.
this we do to them, and have kept them alive, and wrath is not upon us, because of the oath which we have sworn to them.'
21 Ponadto naczelnicy powiedzieli im: Niech pozostaną przy życiu, ale niech rąbią drewno i noszą wodę dla całego zgromadzenia – zgodnie z tym, co obiecali naczelnicy.
And the princes say unto them, 'They live, and are hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the company, as the princes spake to them.'
22 Potem Jozue wezwał ich i zapytał: Dlaczego nas oszukaliście, mówiąc: Jesteśmy z bardzo daleka, skoro mieszkacie wśród nas?
And Joshua calleth for them, and speaketh unto them, saying, 'Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, and ye in our midst dwelling?
23 Teraz więc jesteście przeklęci i nie przestaniecie być niewolnikami rąbiącymi drewno i noszącymi wodę dla domu mego Boga.
and now, cursed are ye, and none of you is cut off [from being] a servant, even hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.'
24 Oni odpowiedzieli Jozuemu: Oznajmiono dokładnie twoim sługom, że PAN, twój Bóg, rozkazał swemu słudze Mojżeszowi dać wam całą ziemię i zgładzić przed wami wszystkich mieszkańców tej ziemi. Dlatego bardzo się baliśmy o nasze życie z waszego powodu i dlatego tak postąpiliśmy.
And they answer Joshua and say, 'Because it was certainly declared to thy servants, that Jehovah thy God commanded Moses His servant to give to you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing;
25 A teraz oto jesteśmy w twoich rękach. Uczyń z nami to, co uważasz za dobre i słuszne.
and now, lo, we [are] in thy hand, as [it is] good, and as [it is] right in thine eyes to do to us — do.'
26 I postąpił tak z nimi, i wybawił ich z rąk synów Izraela, żeby ich nie zabili.
And he doth to them so, and delivereth them from the hand of the sons of Israel, and they have not slain them;
27 I w tym dniu Jozue nakazał im narąbać drewna i nosić wodę dla zgromadzenia oraz dla ołtarza PANA w miejscu, które miał wybrać. I jest tak aż do dziś.
and Joshua maketh them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the company, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, at the place which He doth choose.
