Jozuego 7
1 Lecz synowie Izraela dopuścili się przestępstwa na tym, co przeklęte. Akan bowiem, syn Karmiego, syna Zabdiego, syna Zeracha, z pokolenia Judy, wziął z tego, co przeklęte. I zapłonął gniew PANA przeciw synom Izraela.
But the people of Israel acted unfaithfully regarding the things that were set apart for destruction. Achan son of Karmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, took some things that were set apart for destruction, and Yahweh's anger burned against the people of Israel.
2 Tymczasem Jozue posłał [kilku] mężczyzn z Jerycha do Aj, które leży blisko Bet-Awen, na wschód od Betel, i powiedział do nich: Idźcie i zbadajcie [tę] ziemię. Mężczyźni poszli więc i zbadali Aj.
Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which was near Beth Aven, east of Bethel. He said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.
3 Potem wrócili do Jozuego i powiedzieli mu: Niech nie wyrusza cały lud. Niech wyruszy około dwóch lub trzech tysięcy mężczyzn i niech zburzą Aj. Nie trudź całego ludu, bo tamtych jest niewielu.
When they returned to Joshua, they said to him, “Do not send all the people up to Ai. Send only two or three thousand men to go up and attack Ai. Do not make all the people labor in battle, for they are few in number.”
4 Wyruszyło więc z ludu około trzech tysięcy mężczyzn. Uciekli jednak przed ludźmi z Aj.
So only about three thousand men went up from the army, but these ran away from the men of Ai.
5 Ludzie z Aj zabili około trzydziestu sześciu z nich. Ścigali ich bowiem od bramy aż do Szebarim i zabili ich, gdy ci [schodzili] z góry. Dlatego serce ludu omdlało i stało się jak woda.
The men of Ai killed about thirty-six men as they pursued them from the city gate as far as to the stone quarries, and they killed them as they were going down a hill. The hearts of the people melted and became like water.
6 Wtedy Jozue rozdarł swoje szaty, upadł twarzą na ziemię przed arką PANA [i leżał tak] aż do wieczora, on i starsi Izraela, i sypali proch na swoje głowy.
Then Joshua tore his garments. He and the elders of Israel put dust on their heads and lay facedown on the ground in front of the ark of Yahweh, remaining there until evening.
7 Potem Jozue powiedział: Ach, Panie BOŻE, czemu przeprowadziłeś ten lud za Jordan? Czy po to, aby nas wydać w ręce Amorytów na zniszczenie? Obyśmy raczej pozostali za Jordanem!
Then Joshua said, “Ah, Yahweh Lord, why have you brought this people across the Jordan at all? To give us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we made a different decision and we had stayed on the other side of the Jordan!
8 O Panie, cóż powiem, gdy Izrael uciekł przed swymi wrogami?
Lord, what can I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?
9 Usłyszą [o tym] bowiem Kananejczycy i wszyscy mieszkańcy tej ziemi i otoczą nas zewsząd, i wymażą nasze imię z ziemi. I cóż uczynisz dla swego wielkiego imienia?
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it. They will surround us and make the people of the earth forget our name. What will you do for your great name?”
10 Wtedy PAN powiedział do Jozuego: Wstań! Dlaczego tak leżysz na swej twarzy?
Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why are you lying there on your face?
11 Izrael zgrzeszył, złamali także moje przymierze, które im nakazałem. Wzięli bowiem z tego, co przeklęte, ukradli, skłamali i schowali to wśród swoich rzeczy.
Israel has sinned. They have broken my covenant which I commanded them. They have stolen some of the things that were set apart. They have stolen and then also hidden their sin by putting what they have taken among their own belongings.
12 Dlatego synowie Izraela nie mogli się ostać przed swymi wrogami, ale uciekli przed nimi, bo stali się przekleństwem. Nie będę więcej z wami, jeśli nie wytępicie spośród was tego, co przeklęte.
As a result, the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They turned their backs from their enemies because they themselves have been set apart for destruction. I will not be with you any more unless you destroy the things that should have been destroyed, but are still among you.
13 Wstań, poświęć lud i powiedz: Poświęćcie się na jutro, bo tak mówi PAN, Bóg Izraela: Pośród ciebie, Izraelu, [jest to], co przeklęte. Nie staniecie przed swymi wrogami, dopóki nie usuniecie spośród siebie tego, co obłożone jest przekleństwem.
Get up! Consecrate the people to me and say to them, 'Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow. For Yahweh, the God of Israel says, “There are things set apart to be destroyed that are still among you, Israel. You cannot stand against your enemies until you remove from among you all the things that were set apart to be destroyed.”
14 Wystąpicie więc jutro rano według waszych pokoleń. Wówczas pokolenie, które PAN wskaże, wystąpi według rodzin; a rodzina, którą PAN wskaże, wystąpi według domów; a z domu, który PAN wskaże, wystąpią poszczególni mężczyźni.
In the morning, you must present yourselves by your tribes. The tribe that Yahweh selects will come near by their clans. The clan that Yahweh selects must come near by each household. The household that Yahweh selects must come near one by one.
15 A ten, u kogo zostanie znalezione to, co przeklęte, będzie spalony ogniem, on i wszystko, co do niego należy, bo złamał przymierze PANA i dopuścił się haniebnego czynu w Izraelu.
It will happen that the one who is selected and who has those things that were set apart for destruction, he will be burned, he and all he has, because he has broken the covenant of Yahweh and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.'”
16 Jozue wstał więc wcześnie rano i kazał wystąpić Izraelowi według ich pokoleń; i zostało wskazane pokolenie Judy.
So, Joshua got up early in the morning and brought Israel near, tribe by tribe, and the tribe of Judah was selected.
17 I kazał wystąpić rodzinom Judy, i została wskazana rodzina Zerachitów. Potem kazał wystąpić wszystkim osobom z rodziny Zerachitów i został wskazany [dom] Zabdiego.
Joshua brought the clans of Judah near, and the clan of the Zerahites was selected. He brought near the clan of the Zerahites person by person, and Zabdi was selected.
18 Następnie kazał wystąpić wszystkim osobom z jego domu i został wskazany Akan, syn Karmiego, syna Zabdiego, syna Zeracha, z pokolenia Judy.
He brought Zabdi's household near, person by person, and Achan son of Karmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, from the tribe of Judah, was selected.
19 I Jozue powiedział do Akana: Synu mój, oddaj, proszę, chwałę PANU, Bogu Izraela, i złóż mu wyznanie. Powiedz mi, co uczyniłeś, a nie ukrywaj [tego] przede mną.
Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, tell the truth before Yahweh, the God of Israel, and give your confession to him. Please tell me what you have done. Do not hide it from me.”
20 Wtedy Akan odpowiedział Jozuemu: Rzeczywiście, to ja zgrzeszyłem przeciw PANU, Bogu Izraela. Oto co uczyniłem:
Achan answered Joshua, “Truly, I have sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel. This is what I did:
21 Gdy zobaczyłem wśród łupów piękny płaszcz babiloński, dwieście syklów srebra i pręt złota ważący pięćdziesiąt syklów, pożądałem ich i wziąłem je. Oto są one zakopane w ziemi, w środku mego namiotu, a srebro pod nimi.
When I saw among the plunder a beautiful coat from Babylon, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, I desired them and took them. They are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, and the silver is under it.”
22 Jozue wysłał więc posłańców, którzy pobiegli do namiotu, a oto te [rzeczy] były ukryte w jego namiocie, a srebro pod nimi.
Joshua sent messengers, who ran to the tent and there were the things. When they looked, they found them hidden in his own tent, and the silver under them.
23 I zabrali je z namiotu, przynieśli do Jozuego oraz do wszystkich synów Izraela i położyli je przed PANEM.
They took the items from the middle of the tent and brought them to Joshua and to all the people of Israel. They poured them out before Yahweh.
24 Wtedy Jozue i cały Izrael z nim wzięli Akana, syna Zeracha, srebro, płaszcz i pręt złota, jego synów i córki, jego woły, osły, owce, namiot oraz wszystko, co miał, i zaprowadzili ich do doliny Akor.
Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, the coat, the bar of gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them up to the Valley of Achor.
25 I Jozue powiedział: Dlaczego sprowadziłeś na nas nieszczęście? PAN dzisiaj sprowadzi nieszczęście na ciebie. I cały lud Izraela ukamienował go, a po ukamienowaniu ich spalili ogniem.
Then Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones. Then they stoned the rest with stones and burned them with fire.
26 Potem wznieśli nad nim wielki stos kamieni, [który trwa] aż do dziś. I PAN odwrócił się od zapalczywości swego gniewu. Dlatego to miejsce nazywa się doliną Akor aż do dziś.
They set up over him a great heap of stones that is here until this day. Yahweh turned away his burning anger. Therefore the name of the place is the Valley of Achor until this present day.
