Hioba 23
1 Wtedy Hiob odpowiedział:
Then Job answered and said,
2 Również dziś moja skarga jest gorzka, [choć] moje nieszczęście jest cięższe niż moje jęki.
Even to-day [is] my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3 O gdybym wiedział, gdzie mógłbym go znaleźć, udałbym się aż do jego tronu.
Oh that I knew where I might find him! [that] I might come [even] to his seat!
4 Przedstawiłbym mu [swoją] sprawę, a moje usta napełniłbym dowodami;
I would order [my] cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
5 Poznałbym słowa jego odpowiedzi i zrozumiałbym, co chce mi powiedzieć.
I would know the words [which] he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.
6 Czy w swojej wielkiej mocy będzie się spierał ze mną? Nie, raczej sam doda mi [siły].
Would he plead against me with [his] great power? No; but he would put [strength] in me.
7 Tam człowiek prawy rozprawiałby z nim, a ja na zawsze byłbym wolny od mojego sędziego.
There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
8 [Ale] oto idę prosto, a jego nie ma; cofam się, a nie dostrzegam go.
Behold, I go forward, but he [is] not [there]; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
9 [Idę] w lewo, gdzie on działa, a nie oglądam go; idę na prawo, a nie widzę go.
On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold [him]: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see [him]:
10 Gdyż on zna drogę, którą kroczę; kiedy mnie doświadczy, wyjdę jak złoto.
But he knoweth the way that I take: [when] he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
11 Moja noga trzymała się jego śladu, przestrzegałem jego drogi i nie zbaczałem [z niej].
My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
12 Od przykazania jego ust nie odchodziłem; ceniłem słowa jego ust bardziej niż mój własny [pokarm].
Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary [food].
13 Lecz on jest [niezmienny], któż go odwróci? Czego bowiem jego dusza zapragnie, to uczyni;
But he [is] in one [mind], and who can turn him? and [what] his soul desireth, even [that] he doeth.
14 Bo on wykona, co postanowił o mnie; u niego jest wiele takich [przykładów].
For he performeth [the thing that is] appointed for me: and many such [things are] with him.
15 Dlatego drżę przed jego obliczem; gdy to rozważam, lękam się go.
Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
16 Bóg osłabił moje serce, Wszechmocny mnie zatrwożył.
For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:
17 O mało bowiem nie zginąłem od ciemności, [nie] zakrył mroku przed moim obliczem.
Because I was not cut off before the darkness, [neither] hath he covered the darkness from my face.
