1 Wtedy Hiob odpowiedział:
Forsothe Joob answeride, and seide,
2 Słuchajcie uważnie moich słów, a to będzie dla mnie wasza pociecha.
Y preye, here ye my wordis, and do ye penaunce.
3 Pozwólcie mi mówić, a potem, gdy powiem, naśmiewajcie się ze mnie.
Suffre ye me, that Y speke; and leiye ye aftir my wordis, if it schal seme worthi.
4 Czy swoją skargę kieruję do człowieka? A jeśli tak, to dlaczego mój duch nie miałby być wzburzony?
Whether my disputyng is ayens man, that skilfuli Y owe not to be sori?
5 Spójrzcie na mnie, zdumiewajcie się i połóżcie rękę na swoje usta.
Perseyue ye me, and be ye astonyed; and sette ye fyngur on youre mouth.
6 Gdy tylko sobie przypomnę, jestem przerażony i strach ogarnia moje ciało.
And whanne Y bithenke, Y drede, and tremblyng schakith my fleisch.
7 Czemu niegodziwi żyją, starzeją się, a nawet wzrastają w bogactwie?
Whi therfor lyuen wickid men? Thei ben enhaunsid, and coumfortid with richessis.
8 Ich potomstwo utrwala się przed nimi, a ich rodzina [wzrasta] na ich oczach.
Her seed dwellith bifor hem; the cumpeny of kynesmen, and of sones of sones dwellith in her siyt.
9 Ich domy są bezpieczne, bez strachu i nie dotyka ich rózga Boga.
Her housis ben sikur, and pesible; and the yerde of God is not on hem.
10 Ich byk zapładnia i nie zawodzi, ich krowa cieli się i nie roni.

11 Wypuszczają swe malutkie [dzieci] jak trzodę, a ich synowie podskakują.

12 Chwytają za bęben i harfę i weselą się przy dźwięku fletu.
Thei holden tympan, and harpe; and ioien at the soun of orgun.
Thei leden in goodis her daies; and in a point thei goen doun to hellis. (Sheol h7585)
14 Dlatego mówią do Boga: Odejdź od nas, bo nie chcemy poznać twoich dróg.
Whiche men seiden to God, Go thou awei fro us; we nylen the kunnyng of thi weies.
15 Kim jest Wszechmocny, abyśmy mieli mu służyć? Cóż nam pomoże [to], że będziemy się modlić do niego?
Who is Almiyti God, that we serue him? and what profitith it to vs, if we preien him?
16 Oto ich dobra nie są w ich rękach. Rada niegodziwych daleka [jest] ode mnie.
Netheles for her goodis ben not in her hond, `that is, power, the counsel of wickid men be fer fro me.
17 Jak często gaśnie pochodnia niegodziwych? [Jak często] przychodzi na nich zguba? [Bóg] im wydziela cierpienie w swoim gniewie.
Hou ofte schal the lanterne of wickid men be quenchid, and flowing schal come on hem, and God schal departe the sorewis of his stronge veniaunce?
18 Są jak słoma na wietrze i jak plewa, którą wicher porywa.
Thei schulen be as chaffis bifor the face of the wynd; and as a deed sparcle, whiche the whirlewynd scaterith abrood.
19 Bóg zachowuje jego nieprawość dla jego synów; odpłaca mu, aby to poczuł.

20 Jego oczy ujrzą jego nieszczęście i będzie pił z gniewu Wszechmocnego.
Hise iyen schulen se her sleyng; and he schal drynke of the stronge veniaunce of Almyyti God.
21 Jaką bowiem ma on rozkosz w swoim domu, po swojej [śmierci], gdy liczba jego miesięcy zostanie skrócona?
For whi what perteyneth it to hym of his hows aftir hym, thouy the noumbre of his monethis be half takun awey?
22 Czy [ktoś] może uczyć Boga wiedzy, wiedząc, że on sam sądzi najwyższych?
Whether ony man schal teche God kunnyng, which demeth hem that ben hiye?
23 Jeden umiera w pełni swoich sił, bezpieczny ze wszystkich stron i spokojny;
This yuel man dieth strong and hool, riche and blesful, `that is, myrie.
24 Jego piersi są pełne mleka, a jego kości zwilża szpik.
Hise entrails ben ful of fatnesse; and hise boonys ben moistid with merowis.
25 Drugi zaś umiera w goryczy ducha i nigdy nie jadał z uciechą.
Sotheli anothir wickid man dieth in the bittirnesse of his soule, and with outen ony richessis.
26 Razem będą leżeć w prochu i okryją ich robaki.
And netheles thei schulen slepe togidere in dust, and wormes schulen hile hem.
27 Oto znam wasze myśli i zamiary, [jakie] przeciwko mnie złośliwie obmyślacie.
Certis Y knowe youre wickid thouytis, and sentensis ayens me.
28 Mówicie bowiem: Gdzie [jest] dom księcia? A gdzie mieszkanie niegodziwych?
For ye seien, Where is the hows of the prince? and where ben the tabernaclis of wickid men?
29 Czy nie pytaliście podróżnych? Czy nie chcecie poznać ich znaków;
Axe ye ech of `the weie goeris; and ye schulen knowe, that he vndurstondith these same thingis,
30 Że niegodziwy jest zachowany na dzień zatracenia? Zostanie przyprowadzony na dzień gniewu.
that an yuel man schal be kept in to the dai of perdicioun, and schal be led to the dai of woodnesse.
31 Któż mu wypomni w oczy jego drogę? A kto mu odpłaci za to, co uczynił?
Who schal repreue hise weies bifor hym? and who schal yelde to hym tho thingis, whiche he hath doon?
32 Zaprowadzą go do grobu i zostanie w grobowcu.
He schal be led to the sepulcris; and he schal wake in the heep of deed men.
