1 Wtedy Sofar z Naama odpowiedział:
Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,
2 Dlatego moje myśli skłaniają mnie do odpowiedzi i z tego powodu [mówię] pośpiesznie.
“I'm forced to reply because I'm really upset!
3 Słuchałem obraźliwego upomnienia i duch mojego zrozumienia podsuwa mi odpowiedź:
What I hear you say insults me, but I know how to reply to you!
4 Czy nie wiesz, że od wieków, odkąd człowieka postawiono na ziemi;
Don't you know that since ancient times, since human beings were put on this earth,
5 Radość niegodziwych [jest] krótka, a wesołość obłudnika [trwa] okamgnienie?
that the triumph of the wicked doesn't last long, that those who reject God are only happy for a short time?
6 Choćby jego wyniosłość sięgała aż do niebios, a jego głowa – do obłoków;
Even though they are so tall they reach the heavens, even though their heads reach the clouds,
7 [To jednak] zginie on na wieki jak jego własny gnój, [a] ci, którzy go widzieli, powiedzą: Gdzie [on] się podział?
they will vanish forever like their own excrement. People who knew them will ask, ‘Where have they gone?’
8 Uleci jak sen i nie znajdą go; ucieknie jak nocne widzenie.
They will vanish like a dream, never to be found, fleeing like a vision of the night.
9 Oko, które go widziało, nie zobaczy go więcej, i już nie ujrzy go jego miejsce.
Those who once saw them will not see them anymore; their families will never set eyes on them again.
10 Jego synowie będą się korzyć przed ubogim, jego ręce zwrócą swe bogactwo.
Their children will have to pay back the poor; they will have to return their wealth.
11 Jego kości są pełne [grzechów] jego młodości, razem z nim spoczną w prochu.
Though the wicked have bodies that are young and strong, they will die and be buried.
12 A choć zło jest słodkie w jego ustach i zataja je pod swoim językiem;
Though evil tastes sweet in their mouths and they hide it under their tongues,
13 Chociaż rozkoszuje się nim i nie opuszcza go, zatrzymując je na swoim podniebieniu;
not letting it go but keeping it in their mouths,
14 [To jednak] jego pokarm we wnętrznościach przemienia się, [staje się] żółcią żmii w jego wnętrzu.
in their stomachs it turns bitter, becoming like snake venom inside them.
15 Połknął bogactwa i zwróci je; Bóg je wyrzuci z jego brzucha.
They swallow wealth and vomit it up again; God forces it from their stomachs.
16 Będzie ssał jad żmii, zabije go język węża.
They suck in snake venom; the bite of the viper will kill them.
17 Nie zobaczy rzek, potoków, strumieni miodu ani masła.
They will not live to enjoy the streams, the rivers of milk and honey.
18 Zwróci swój zysk i nie połknie go; i choć znowu zdobędzie wielki majątek, nie ucieszy się [z niego].
They will have to give back what they have gained and will not have any benefit; they will not enjoy any of their profits.
19 Bo uciskał [i] opuszczał ubogich, przemocą zabrał dom, którego nie zbudował.
For they have oppressed and abandoned the poor; they have seized houses they did not build.
20 Dlatego nie zazna pokoju w swoim wnętrzu, nie zatrzyma tego, czego pragnął.
Because their greed was never satisfied, nothing they liked is left that they didn't consume.
21 Z jego pokarmów nic nie zostanie, nie rozmnożą się jego dobra.
Nothing escapes their ravenous appetites, so their happiness doesn't last long.
22 Mimo obfitości jego dostatku dosięgnie go bieda. Wszelka ręka nikczemnych uderzy na niego.
Even when the wicked have all that they want they run into trouble; all kinds of misery will fall upon them.
23 Gdy będzie miał czym napełnić swój brzuch, [Bóg] ześle na niego zapalczywość swego gniewu, wyleje na niego [i] na jego pokarmy.
While they are busy filling their bellies, God's hostility will burn against them, raining down on them.
24 [Gdy] będzie uciekał przed żelazną bronią, przebije go łuk spiżowy.
As they flee to escape an iron weapon, a bronze arrow will strike them down.
25 Wyjęta będzie [strzała] z grzbietu, a grot przeszyje jego wątrobę; ogarnie go strach.
The arrow is pulled out of their gall bladder, glistening with blood. They are absolutely terrified!
26 Wszelka ciemność zaczai się w jego kryjówkach. Pożre go ogień niewzniecony, a ten, kto pozostał w jego przybytku, będzie udręczony.
All they value will disappear into the darkness; divine fire will destroy them; all they have left will go up in smoke.
27 Niebo odkryje jego nieprawość, a ziemia powstanie przeciwko niemu.
The heavens reveal what they have done wrong; the earth will rise up against them.
28 Dobytek jego domu przepadnie, [jego dobra] rozpłyną się w dniu [Bożego] gniewu.
All their possessions will be carried from their homes; they will be dragged off on the day of God's judgment.
29 Taki [jest] dział Boga dla niegodziwego i dziedzictwo przeznaczone mu przez Boga.
This is the share the wicked receive from God, the inheritance God says they should have.”
