Hioba 18
1 Wtedy Bildad z Szuach odpowiedział:
And Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,
2 Kiedy wreszcie położycie kres tym słowom? Pomyślcie, potem będziemy mówić.
How long will ye hunt for words? Be intelligent, and then we will speak.
3 Czemu uważacie nas za bydło? Czemu jesteśmy obrzydliwi w waszych oczach?
Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed stupid in your sight?
4 Ty, który szarpiesz gniewem swą duszę – czy z twojego powodu będzie opuszczona ziemia i skały będą przesunięte ze swego miejsca?
Thou that tearest thyself in thine anger, shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of its place?
5 Tak, światło niegodziwych zgaśnie, a iskra jego ognia już nie zaświeci.
Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the flame of his fire shall not shine.
6 Światło jego przybytku się zaćmi i jego pochodnia nad nim zagaśnie.
The light shall become dark in his tent, and his lamp over him shall be put out.
7 Kroki jego siły będą skrępowane, jego własna rada powali go.
The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.
8 Jego nogi bowiem zawiodą go w sieć, chodzi po sidłach.
For he is sent into the net by his own feet, and he walketh on the meshes;
9 Sidło uchwyci go za piętę i przemoże go łupieżca.
The gin taketh [him] by the heel, the snare layeth hold on him;
10 Sidło dla niego ukryte jest w ziemi, a pułapka na niego – na drodze.
A cord is hidden for him in the ground, and his trap in the way.
11 Zewsząd będą go przerażać strachy, ścigają go na każdym kroku.
Terrors make him afraid on every side, and chase him at his footsteps.
12 Głód osłabi jego siły i zniszczenie [będzie] czyhało u jego boku.
His strength is hunger-bitten, and calamity is ready at his side.
13 Pożre żyły jego skóry, pierworodny śmierci pożre jego członki.
The firstborn of death devoureth the members of his body; it will devour his members.
14 Jego ufność będzie wykorzeniona z jego namiotu i zostanie on przyprowadzony do króla strachów.
His confidence shall be rooted out of his tent, and it shall lead him away to the king of terrors:
15 [Strach] będzie mieszkał w jego namiocie, bo [ten] nie należy do niego; jego mieszkanie będzie posypane siarką.
They who are none of his shall dwell in his tent; brimstone shall be showered upon his habitation:
16 Od spodu uschną jego korzenie, a z wierzchu będzie obcięta jego gałąź.
His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off;
17 Pamięć o nim zginie z ziemi, a jego imienia nie [wspomną] na ulicach.
His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name on the pasture-grounds.
18 Wypędzą go ze światła do ciemności i wyrzucą go z okręgu świata.
He is driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
19 Nie będzie miał syna ani wnuka pośród swego ludu i nikt nie pozostanie w jego mieszkaniach.
He hath neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining in the places of his sojourn.
20 Ci, którzy przyjdą po nim, osłupieją na jego dzień, tak jak poprzednich ogarnął strach.
They that come after shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before [them] were affrighted.
21 Takie są mieszkania niegodziwych i takie jest miejsce tego, który nie zna Boga.
Surely, such are the dwellings of the unrighteous man, and such the place of him that knoweth not God.
