Hioba 14
1 Człowiek, urodzony przez kobietę, ma dni niewiele i ma pełno kłopotów;
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 Wyrasta jak kwiat i zostaje podcięty, znika jak cień i się nie ostaje.
He cometh forth like a flower, and withereth; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 A jednak na takiego otwierasz swoje oczy i wzywasz mnie przed siebie na sąd.
And dost Thou open Thine eyes upon such a one, and bringest me into judgment with Thee?
4 Któż może wydobyć czystego z nieczystego? Ani jeden.
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 Gdyż jego dni są ustalone, liczba jego miesięcy jest u ciebie; wyznaczyłeś mu kres, którego nie może przekroczyć.
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with Thee, and Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 Odstąp od niego, aby odpoczął, aż zakończy swój dzień jak najemnik.
Look away from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.
7 [Dla] drzewa bowiem jest nadzieja, choć je wytną, że znowu odrośnie, że jego latorośl nie ustanie.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 Choć jego korzeń zestarzeje się w ziemi i jego pień umrze w prochu;
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 [To jednak] gdy poczuje wodę, odrasta i rozpuszcza gałęzie jak sadzonka.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a plant.
10 Ale człowiek umiera i marnieje; a gdy oddaje ducha, gdzie on jest?
But man dieth, and lieth low; yea, man perisheth, and where is he?
11 Jak ubywa wód z morza i rzeka opada, i wysycha;
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river is drained dry;
12 Tak jest z człowiekiem, gdy się położy i już nie wstanie; dopóki niebiosa będą trwać, nie ocknie się ani nie będzie obudzony ze swego snu.
So man lieth down and riseth not; till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
13 Obyś mnie w grobie ukrył i schował, aż twój gniew się uciszy, wyznaczył mi czas i wspomniał na mnie. (Sheol h7585)
Oh that Thou wouldest hide me in the nether-world, that Thou wouldest keep me secret, until Thy wrath be past, that Thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! — (Sheol h7585)
14 Gdy człowiek umrze, czy [znowu] ożyje? Przez wszystkie dni wyznaczonego mi czasu będę czekał, aż nadejdzie moja zmiana.
If a man die, may he live again? All the days of my service would I wait, till my relief should come —
15 Zawołasz, a ja ci odpowiem; zatęsknisz za dziełem swoich rąk.
Thou wouldest call, and I would answer Thee; Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of Thy hands.
16 Teraz jednak liczysz moje kroki. Czy nie zważasz na mój grzech?
But now Thou numberest my steps, Thou dost not even wait for my sin;
17 Mój występek jest zapieczętowany w woreczku, gromadzisz moje nieprawości.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and Thou heapest up mine iniquity.
18 Doprawdy, góra pada i rozsypuje się, i skała przesuwa się ze swego miejsca.
And surely the mountain falling crumbleth away, and the rock is removed out of its place;
19 Wody wydrążają kamienie, ulewa podrywa to, co wyrośnie z prochu ziemi, a ty nadzieję człowieka obracasz wniwecz.
The waters wear the stones; the overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth; so Thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 Stale pokonujesz go, a on odchodzi; zmieniasz jego oblicze i odprawiasz go.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth; Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21 Jego synowie darzeni są szacunkiem, lecz on o tym nie wie; żyją w pogardzie, lecz na to nie zważa.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he regardeth them not.
22 Ale jego własne ciało odczuwa ból, a jego dusza w nim płacze.
But his flesh grieveth for him, and his soul mourneth over him.
