1 A Abraham był stary, w podeszłym wieku, a PAN błogosławił mu we wszystkim.
Now, Abraham, was old, far gone in days, —and, Yahweh, had blessed Abraham, in all things.
2 I Abraham powiedział do swego starszego sługi w swym domu, który zarządzał wszystkim, co miał: Połóż, proszę, swą rękę pod moje biodro;
So Abraham said unto his servant, elder of his house, ruler of all that he had, —Place, I pray thee thy hand under my thigh;
3 I przysięgnij mi na PANA, Boga nieba i Boga ziemi, że nie weźmiesz dla mego syna żony z córek Kananejczyków, wśród których mieszkam;
that I may put thee on oath, by Yahweh God of the heavens and God of the earth—That thou wilt not take a wife for my son, from among the daughters of the Canaanites in the midst of whom, I, am dwelling:
4 Ale pójdziesz do mojej ziemi i do mojej rodziny i [stamtąd] weźmiesz żonę dla mego syna Izaaka.
but unto my own land and unto my own kindred, wilt go, —So shalt thou take a wife for my son—for Isaac.
5 Sługa mu odpowiedział: A jeśli kobieta nie zechce pójść ze mną do tej ziemi, czy wtedy mam zaprowadzić twego syna do ziemi, z której wyszedłeś?
And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman may not be willing to follow me into this land, —May I take back thy son, into the land from whence thou camest?
6 Abraham mu odpowiedział: Strzeż się, abyś tam nie zaprowadził mego syna.
And Abraham said unto him, —Beware that thou do not take back my son thither!
7 PAN Bóg nieba, który mnie wziął z domu mego ojca i z ziemi mojej rodziny i który mówił ze mną, i przysiągł mi: Twemu potomstwu dam tę ziemię; on pośle przed tobą swego anioła i weźmiesz stamtąd żonę dla mego syna.
Yahweh, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, who took me out of the house of my father, and out of the land of my kindred, and, who spake to me, and who sware to me, saying, To thy seed, will I give this land, he, will send his messenger before thee, so shalt thou take a wife for my son from thence.
8 A jeśli ta kobieta nie zechce pójść z tobą, będziesz zwolniony z mojej przysięgi. Tylko nie prowadź tam mego syna.
But if unwilling be the woman to follow thee, then shalt thou be clear from this mine oath, —Only my son, shalt thou not take back thither
9 Wtedy sługa podłożył rękę pod biodro swego pana Abrahama i przysiągł mu to.
So the servant placed his hand, under the thigh of Abraham, his lord, —and sware to him, over this thing.
10 Potem ów sługa wziął dziesięć wielbłądów z wielbłądów swego pana i poszedł – bo [miał] w swych rękach wszystkie dobra swego pana. Wstał i udał się do Aram-Naharaim, do miasta Nachora.
Then took the servant ten camels, from among the camels of his lord, and went his way, —all the goods of his master being in his hand, —so be mounted, and went his way unto Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.
11 I dał wielbłądom odpocząć przy studni poza miastem w wieczornej porze, [w tym] czasie, kiedy kobiety zwykły wychodzić czerpać wodę.
And he made the camels kneel down outside the city, against the well of water, —at the time of evening, at the time of the coming forth of the women that drew water,
12 I powiedział: PANIE, Boże mego pana Abrahama, daj mi, proszę, pomyślne spotkanie i okaż łaskę mojemu panu Abrahamowi.
Then he said, O Yahweh, God of my lord Abraham! I pray thee cause it to fall out before me today, that thou deal in lovingkindness with my lord Abraham.
13 Oto stoję przy studni, a córki mieszkańców tego miasta wyjdą czerpać wodę;
Here am, I, stationed by the fountain of water, —and, the daughters of the men of the city, are coming forth to draw water:
14 Niech dziewczyna, której powiem: Przechyl, proszę, twój dzban, abym mógł się napić, a ona odpowie: Pij i napoję także twoje wielbłądy – [będzie tą], którą przeznaczyłeś dla twego sługi Izaaka; a po tym poznam, że okazałeś łaskę mojemu panu.
so it shall come to pass that the young woman unto whom I shall say. Let down pray. thy pitcher that I may drink, and she shall say, Drink, and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, that, her! hast thou appointed for thy servant for Isaac, And, hereby, shall I get to know, that thou hast dealt in lovingkindness with my lord!
15 I zanim przestał mówić, oto wyszła Rebeka, która się urodziła Betuelowi, synowi Milki, żony Nachora, brata Abrahama, z dzbanem na ramieniu.
And it came to pass, ere yet, he, had done speaking, that lo! Rebekah, was coming forth who had been born to Bethuel son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham, —with her pitcher upon her shoulder,
16 Była ona bardzo piękną dziewczyną, dziewicą, z którą nie obcował żaden mężczyzna. Zeszła do studni, napełniła swój dzban i wracała.
Now the young woman! was of very pleasing appearance, a virgin whom, no man, had known, —and she went down unto the fountain, and filled her pitcher and came up.
17 Wtedy ów sługa wybiegł do niej i powiedział: Proszę, pozwól mi się napić trochę wody z twego dzbana.
And the servant ran to meet her, —and said, I pray thee let me drink a little water out of thy pitcher.
18 A [ona] odpowiedziała: Pij, panie mój. I szybko pochyliła swój dzban na swoją rękę, i dała mu pić.
And she said, Drink my lord, —And she hastened and lowered her pitcher on her hand and let him drink.
19 A gdy dała mu się napić, powiedziała: Naczerpię [wody] także dla twoich wielbłądów, aby napiły się do woli.
And when she had done giving him drink, —she said For thy camels also, will I draw, until they have done drinking.
20 Wylała prędko [wodę] ze swego dzbana w koryto i pobiegła znowu do studni czerpać [wodę], i naczerpała dla wszystkich jego wielbłądów.
So she hastened and emptied her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and ran again unto the well, to draw, —and she drew for all his camels.
21 A ów mężczyzna zdumiewał się nią, zastanawiając się w milczeniu, czy PAN poszczęścił jego podróży, czy nie.
Now the man, was eagerly watching her, —keeping silence to see—whether Yahweh had prospered his way., or not.
22 Gdy więc wielbłądy się napiły, ów mężczyzna wyjął [i dał] na jej ręce złoty kolczyk ważący pół sykla i dwie bransolety ważące dziesięć syklów złota.
And it came to pass when the camels had done drinking, that the man took a ring of gold, half a shekel its weight, —and two bracelets for her hands, ten of gold their weight;
23 I zapytał: Czyją jesteś córką? Powiedz mi, proszę. Czy jest w domu twego ojca miejsce [dla] nas na nocleg?
and said Whose daughter art, thou? I pray thee, tell me. Is there in the house of thy father a place for us to tarry the night?
24 A ona mu odpowiedziała: Jestem córką Betuela, syna Milki, którego urodziła Nachorowi.
And she said unto him, Daughter of Bethuel, am, I,—[Bethuel] son of Milcah whom she bare to Nahor.
25 Po czym dodała: Jest u nas dosyć słomy i paszy oraz miejsce na nocleg.
And she said unto him, Both straw and fodder in plenty, have we, —also a place to tarry the night.
26 I ów mężczyzna uklęknął i oddał pokłon PANU;
Then the man bowed his head, and bent himself down unto Yahweh;
27 I powiedział: Błogosławiony PAN, Bóg mego pana Abrahama, który nie oddalił swego miłosierdzia i swojej prawdy od mego pana, [bo] gdy byłem w drodze, PAN przyprowadził mnie do domu braci mego pana.
and said, Blessed be Yahweh. God of my lord Abraham, who hath not withdrawn his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, from my lord, —I—being in the way, Yahweh led me unto the house of the brethren of my lord!
28 I dziewczyna pobiegła, i w domu swej matki oznajmiła, co się stało.
And the young woman ran, and told the household of her mother, —according to these words.
29 A Rebeka miała brata imieniem Laban. I Laban wybiegł do tego człowieka, do studni.
Now, Rebekah, had a brother, whose name, was Laban, —so Laban ran unto the man outside, unto the fountain.
30 Gdy zobaczył kolczyk i bransolety na rękach swej siostry i usłyszał słowa swej siostry Rebeki: Tak mówił do mnie ten człowiek, podszedł do tego człowieka, a oto on stał przy wielbłądach u studni.
And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister saying, Thus, did the man speak unto me, that he came unto the man, and lo! he was standing by the camels near the fountain;
31 I powiedział [do niego]: Wejdź, błogosławiony przez PANA. Czemu stoisz na dworze? Przygotowałem już dom i miejsce dla wielbłądów.
and he said, Come in. thou blessed of Yahweh, —Wherefore shouldst thou stand outside, when I have made ready the house and a place for the camels?
32 Wszedł więc ów człowiek do domu. I [Laban] rozsiodłał wielbłądy, i dał słomy i paszy wielbłądom, i wody do umycia jego nóg oraz nóg tych mężczyzn, którzy z nim byli.
So the man came in towards the house, and ungirded the camels, —and there was given him straw and fodder for the camels, and water for bathing his own feet and the feet of the men who were with him;
33 I położył przed nim jedzenie, aby jadł, ale on powiedział: Nie będę jadł, dopóki nie przedstawię swojej sprawy. Laban powiedział: Mów.
and [food] was set before him to eat, But he said, I cannot eat, until I have spoken my words. And he said—Speak!
34 I powiedział: Jestem sługą Abrahama.
Then said he, —Servant of Abraham, am I.
35 PAN pobłogosławił bardzo mego pana i stał się on zamożny. Dał mu bowiem owce i woły, srebra i złota, służących i służące, wielbłądy i osły.
Now, Yahweh, having blessed my lord exceedingly, and made him great, —and given him flocks and herds and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels, and asses,
36 A Sara, żona mego pana, urodziła memu panu w jego starości syna, któremu dał wszystko, co ma.
then did Sarah wife of my lord, bear a son to my lord, after she had become old, —so he gave to him all that he had;
37 I mój pan kazał mi przysiąc, mówiąc: Nie weźmiesz dla mego syna żony z córek Kananejczyków, w których ziemi mieszkam;
And my lord put me on oath saying, —Thou shalt not take a wife for my son, of the daughters of the Canaanites in whose land, I, am dwelling;
38 Ale pójdziesz do domu mego ojca i do moich krewnych i [stamtąd] weźmiesz żonę dla mojego syna.
but, unto the house of my father, shalt thou go, and unto my family, —and take a wife for my son.
39 I zapytałem mego pana: A jeśli ta kobieta nie zechce pójść ze mną?
So I said unto my lord, —Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 Odpowiedział mi: PAN, przed którym chodzę, pośle swego anioła z tobą i poszczęści twojej drodze; i weźmiesz dla mego syna żonę spośród moich krewnych i z domu mego ojca.
And he said unto me, —Yahweh, before whom I have walked to and fro, will send his messenger with thee, so shall he prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife for my son out of my kindred and out of the house of my father.
41 Będziesz jednak zwolniony z mojej przysięgi, jeśli przyjdziesz do moich krewnych, a oni ci jej nie dadzą. Wtedy będziesz wolny od mojej przysięgi.
Then, shalt thou clear thyself from mine oath, for thou shalt go in unto my kindred, —and, if they will not grant her unto thee, then shalt thou be clear from mine oath.
42 Przyszedłem więc dziś do studni i powiedziałem: PANIE, Boże mego pana Abrahama, jeśli teraz chcesz poszczęścić mojej podróży, którą odbywam;
So I came in to-day, unto the fountain, —and I said O Yahweh God of my lord Abraham! if, I pray thee thou art prospering my way whereon I am going,
43 Oto stoję przy studni wody. Niech panna, która wyjdzie czerpać wodę, a której powiem: Daj mi, proszę, napić się trochę wody z twego dzbana;
here, am I stationed by the fountain of water, —so then it shall come to pass that, the maiden that is coming forth to draw, and I shall say unto her Let me drink. I pray thee a little water out of thy pitcher;
44 A ona odpowie mi: I ty pij, naczerpię też dla twoich wielbłądów – [niech] ona [będzie] żoną, którą przeznaczył PAN dla syna mego pana.
and she shall say unto me Both, thou, drink, and for thy camels also, will I draw, the same, shall be the woman whom Yahweh hath appointed for the son of my lord.
45 Zanim przestałem mówić w swym sercu, oto przyszła Rebeka, niosąc swój dzban na ramieniu, i zeszła do studni, i czerpała. Powiedziałem do niej: Proszę, daj mi pić.
Ere yet, I, could make an end of speaking unto mine own heart, lo! then Rebekah, coming forth, with her pitcher on her shoulder, and she went down to the fountain, and drew, —and I said unto her Let me drink I pray thee!
46 A ona szybko zdjęła swój dzban i powiedziała: Pij, a twoje wielbłądy też napoję. Piłem więc, a [ona] napoiła też wielbłądy.
So she hastened and lowered her pitcher from off her, and said. Drink! and to thy camels also, will I give to drink, —So I drank and the camels also, she let drink.
47 I zapytałem ją: Czyją jesteś córką? Odpowiedziała: [Jestem] córką Betuela, syna Nachora, którego urodziła mu Milka. Wtedy włożyłem kolczyk na jej twarz i bransolety na jej ręce.
Then I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said Daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom, Milcah, bare to him, —Then put I the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands;
48 Potem uklęknąłem i oddałem pokłon PANU, i błogosławiłem PANA, Boga mego pana Abrahama, który mnie prowadził właściwą drogą, abym wziął córkę brata mego pana dla jego syna.
and bowed my head and bent myself down unto Yahweh, —and I blessed Yahweh God of my lord Abraham, who had led me in a way of faithfulness, to take the daughter of the brother of my lord for his son.
49 Teraz więc, jeśli chcecie postąpić życzliwie i właściwie wobec mojego pana, powiedzcie mi. A jeśli nie, to też mi powiedzcie, żebym zwrócił się w prawo lub w lewo.
Now, therefore, if ye are dealing in lovingkindness and faithfulness with my lord, tell me, —and, if not, tell me, that I may turn unto the right hand or unto the left.
50 Wtedy Laban i Betuel odpowiedzieli: Ta sprawa pochodzi od PANA. My nie możemy ci powiedzieć ani dobrze, ani źle.
Then answered Laban and Bethuel and said, from Yahweh, hath come forth the word, —we cannot speak unto thee ill or well.
51 Oto przed tobą Rebeka, weź [ją] i idź, niech będzie żoną syna twego pana, jak powiedział PAN.
Lo! Rebekah, is before thee, Take her and go thy way, —And let her become wife unto the son of thy lord, as Yahweh hath spoken.
52 Gdy sługa Abrahama usłyszał ich słowa, [uklęknął] na ziemi i oddał pokłon PANU.
And it came to pass when Abraham’s servant heard their words, that he bowed himself down towards the earth unto Yahweh.
53 Następnie ów sługa wyjął srebrne i złote klejnoty, i szaty i oddał je Rebece. Dał też kosztowności jej bratu i matce.
Then the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment, and gave unto Rebekah, —and precious things, gave he to her brother and to her mother.
54 Potem jedli i pili, on i mężczyźni, którzy z nim byli, i zostali tam na noc. A gdy wstali rano, on powiedział: Odprawcie mnie do mego pana.
And they did eat and drink he, and the men who were with him, and they tarried the night, —and when they arose in the morning, he said Let me go unto my lord!
55 Jej brat i matka powiedzieli: Niech dziewczyna zostanie z nami chociaż dziesięć dni, a potem pójdzie.
Then said her brother and her mother, Let the young woman remain with us some days or rather ten, —After that, she shall go.
56 A [on] powiedział do nich: Nie zatrzymujcie mnie, skoro PAN poszczęścił mojej drodze; odprawcie mnie, abym jechał do mego pana.
And he said unto them, Do not hinder me, when, Yahweh, hath prospered my journey, —Let me go, that I may take my journey unto my lord!
57 Odpowiedzieli: Zawołajmy dziewczynę i spytajmy, co na to powie.
Then said they, We must call the young woman and ask at her mouth.
58 Zawołali więc Rebekę i zapytali ją: Czy chcesz jechać z tym człowiekiem? A ona odpowiedziała: Pojadę.
So they called Rebekah and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 Wtedy wyprawili swoją siostrę Rebekę, jej mamkę, sługę Abrahama i jego ludzi.
So they let go Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant and his men.
60 I błogosławili Rebece, mówiąc jej: Jesteś naszą siostrą, rozmnóż się w tysiąc tysięcy, a twoje potomstwo niech posiądzie bramy swych nieprzyjaciół.
And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, Our sister! become thou, thousands of ten thousands, —And let thy seed take possession of the gate of them that hate them!
61 Potem Rebeka ze swymi służącymi wstała i wsiadła na wielbłądy, i jechały za tym mężczyzną. Sługa ów wziął Rebekę i odjechał.
Then mounted Rebekah and her young woman and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man, —so the servant took Rebekah. and went his way.
62 A Izaak właśnie wracał od studni Lachaj-Roj, bo mieszkał w ziemi południowej.
Now, Isaac, had come in at the entrance, of Beer-lahai-roi, —for, he, was dwelling in the land of the South:
63 I wyszedł Izaak na pole pod wieczór, aby rozmyślać. Gdy podniósł swe oczy, zobaczył zbliżające się wielbłądy.
and Isaac came forth to meditate in the field at the approach of evening, —so he lifted up his eyes and looked, and lo! camels, coming in.
64 Rebeka też podniosła swe oczy i zobaczyła Izaaka, i zsiadła z wielbłąda;
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac, —so she alighted with haste from off the camel;
65 Bo zapytała sługę: Kim jest ten mężczyzna, który idzie do nas przez pole? I sługa odpowiedział: To jest mój pan. A ona wzięła zasłonę i nakryła się.
and said unto the servant, Who is this man that is walking in the field to meet us? And the servant said, That, is my lord. So she took the veil and covered herself.
66 I opowiedział ów sługa Izaakowi o wszystkim, co zrobił.
And the servant recounted to Isaac, —all the things which he had done.
67 A Izaak wprowadził ją do namiotu swojej matki Sary i wziął Rebekę za żonę, i kochał ją. I Izaak pocieszył się po [śmierci] swojej matki.
And Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother; thus he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her, —and Isaac consoled himself, for the loss of his mother.
