1 Potem zawróciliśmy i wyruszyliśmy na pustynię, drogą w kierunku Morza Czerwonego, tak jak mi PAN powiedział, i przez wiele dni krążyliśmy dokoła góry Seir.

Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken unto me: and we traveled around mount Seir many days.

2 I PAN powiedział do mnie:

And the Lord said unto me, as followeth,

3 Dosyć krążyliście dokoła tej góry. Skierujcie się na północ;

Ye have traveled long enough around this mountain; turn yourselves northward.

4 I rozkaż ludowi: Będziecie przechodzić przez granicę waszych braci, synów Ezawa, którzy mieszkają w Seirze. Oni będą się was bać, lecz wy strzeżcie się bardzo.

And the people command thou, saying, Ye are passing by the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you; therefore take ye good heed unto yourselves;

5 Nie prowokujcie ich, gdyż nie dam wam ich ziemi nawet na szerokość stopy, bo Ezawowi dałem w posiadanie górę Seir.

Do not contend with them; for I will not give unto you of their land, even so much as a foot's breadth; because unto Esau have I given mount Seir for an inheritance.

6 Żywność będziecie kupowali od nich za pieniądze, abyście mieli co jeść; także wodę od nich będziecie kupować za pieniądze, abyście mieli co pić.

Food shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may eat; and water also shall ye buy of them for money, that ye may drink.

7 Gdyż PAN, twój Bóg, błogosławił cię w każdym dziele twoich rąk i znał twoją drogę na tej wielkiej pustyni. Już przez czterdzieści lat PAN, twój Bóg, był z tobą, a niczego ci nie brakowało.

For the Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he hath provided for thy wandering through this great wilderness: these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

8 Ominęliśmy więc naszych braci, synów Ezawa, mieszkających w Seirze, drogą równinną od Elat i od Esjon-Geber, po czym skręciliśmy i udaliśmy się w stronę pustyni Moabu.

And we passed away from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way through the plain, from Elath, and from 'Ezyon-gaber. And we turned and passed the way of the wilderness of Moab.

9 I PAN powiedział do mnie: Nie napadaj na Moabitów ani nie rozniecaj z nimi wojny, bo nie dam ci ich ziemi w posiadanie; Ar bowiem dałem w posiadanie synom Lota.

And the Lord said unto me, Do not attack the Moabites, nor contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee from their land any inheritance, because unto the children of Lot have I given 'Ar for an inheritance.

10 Poprzednio mieszkali w niej Emici, lud potężny, liczny i wysoki jak Anakici;

The Emim in times past dwelt therein, a people great, and numerous, and tall as the 'Anakim;

11 Uważano ich też za olbrzymów jak Anakitów, lecz Moabici nazywają ich Emitami.

As Rephaim were also they accounted, equally with the 'Anakim; and the Moabites called the[[m]] Emim.

12 Przedtem w Seirze mieszkali również Choryci, ale synowie Ezawa wypędzili ich i wyniszczyli przed sobą, po czym zamieszkali na ich miejscu, jak uczynił Izrael w ziemi swego posiadania, którą dał im PAN.

And in Seir dwelt the Chorim in times past; but the children of Esau drove them out, and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel hath done unto the land of his inheritance, which the Lord hath given unto them.

13 Wstańcie więc i przeprawcie się przez potok Zered. I przeprawiliśmy się przez potok Zered.

Now rise up, and get you over the brook Zered; and we passed over the brook Zered.

14 A czas, który upłynął od naszego wyjścia z Kadesz-Barnea aż do przeprawienia się przez potok Zered, wynosił trzydzieści osiem lat, aż wyginęło z obozu całe pokolenie wojowników, tak jak im to PAN poprzysiągł.

And the time which we came from Kadesh-barnea', until we had passed over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were spent from out the midst of the camp, as the Lord had sworn unto them.

15 Ręka PANA bowiem zaciążyła nad nimi, aby wyniszczyć ich z obozu, aż wyginęli.

And also the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp; until they were spent.

16 A gdy wszyscy wojownicy spośród ludu wyginęli i umarli;

So it came to pass, when all the men of war were spent by, dying from the midst of the people,

17 PAN przemówił do mnie:

That the Lord spoke unto me, saying,

18 Dziś przejdziesz przez Ar, granicę Moabu;

Thou art passing this day by the border of Moab, by 'Ar,

19 I zbliżysz się do synów Ammona; nie napadaj na nich i nie rozniecaj z nimi wojny, bo nie dam ci w posiadanie ziemi synów Ammona, dałem ją bowiem w posiadanie synom Lota.

And thou comest nigh opposite the children of 'Ammon: do not attack them, nor contend with them; for I will not give unto thee of the land of the children of 'Ammon any inheritance; because unto the children of Lot have I given it for an inheritance.

20 (Także i tę ziemię uważano za ziemię olbrzymów. Olbrzymi mieszkali w niej wcześniej, a Ammonici nazywają ich Zamzummitami;

As the land of Rephaim was it also accounted: Rephaim dwelt therein in times past; and the 'Ammonites called them Zamzummim;

21 Lud potężny, liczny i wysoki jak Anakici; lecz PAN wygubił ich przed nimi, a [Ammonici] ich wypędzili i zamieszkali na ich miejscu;

A people great, and numerous, and tall, as the 'Anakim; but the Lord destroyed them before them; and they drove them out, and dwelt in their stead:

22 Podobnie jak uczynił synom Ezawa mieszkającym w Seirze, przed którymi wytracił Chorytów; i wypędzili ich, i zamieszkali na ich miejscu aż do dziś.

As he hath done to the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from before whom he destroyed the Chorim; and they drove them out and dwelt in their stead, even unto this day.

23 Także Awwitów, którzy mieszkali w Chazerim aż do Gazy, wytracili Kaftoryci, którzy wyszli z Kaftor, i zamieszkali na ich miejscu).

And the 'Avvim, who dwelt in open towns, as far as unto Gazzah, —the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.

24 Wstańcie więc, wyruszcie i przeprawcie się przez rzekę Arnon. Oto daję w twoje ręce Sichona, króla Cheszbonu, Amorytę, oraz jego ziemię. Zacznij ją zajmować i rozpocznij z nim wojnę.

Rise ye up, set forward, and pass over the brook Arnon; behold I have given into thy hand Sichon the king of Cheshbon, the Emorite, and his land: begin to drive him out, and contend with him in battle.

25 Od dziś zacznę wzbudzać strach i lęk przed tobą wśród narodów, które są pod całym niebem; kiedy usłyszą wieść o tobie, będą drżeć i będą się ciebie lękać.

This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven; whoever will hear the report of thee, shall tremble, and shall quake because of thee.

26 Wysłałem więc posłańców z pustyni Kedemot do Sichona, króla Cheszbonu, ze słowami pokoju:

And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, with words of peace, saying,

27 Pozwól mi przejść przez twoją ziemię. Pójdę tylko drogą, nie zboczę ani na prawo, ani na lewo.

Let me pass through thy land: always by the highway will I go along; I will not turn unto the right hand or unto the left.

28 Sprzedasz mi za pieniądze żywność, abym mógł się pożywić; wody także za pieniądze mi dasz, abym pił. Tylko przejdę pieszo;

Food shalt thou sell me for money, that I may eat; and water for money shalt thou give me, that I may drink: only let me pass through on foot;

29 Jak mi to uczynili synowie Ezawa, którzy mieszkają w Seirze, i Moabici, którzy mieszkają w Ar, aż się przeprawię przez Jordan, do ziemi, którą daje nam PAN, nasz Bóg.

(As the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in 'Ar, have done unto me: ) until that I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the Lord our God giveth us.

30 Lecz Sichon, król Cheszbonu, nie pozwolił nam przejść przez swoją [ziemię], gdyż PAN, twój Bóg, zatwardził jego ducha i uczynił jego serce uparte, aby go wydać w twoje ręce, jak to dzisiaj widzisz.

But Sichon, the king of Cheshbon, would not suffer our passing by him; for the Lord thy God had hardened his spirit, and had made obstinate his heart, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as [hath happened] this day.

31 Wtedy PAN powiedział do mnie: Oto zacząłem już wydawać ci Sichona i jego ziemię. Zacznij ją zajmować, abyś odziedziczył jego ziemię.

And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give up Sichon and his land before thee: begin to drive him out, that thou mayest inherit his land.

32 Wtedy Sichon wyruszył przeciwko nam, on i cały jego lud, aby zmierzyć się z nami w bitwie w Jahaz;

And Sichon came out against us, he and all his people, to the battle at Yahaz.

33 Lecz PAN, nasz Bóg, wydał go nam i pobiliśmy go, jego synów i cały jego lud.

And the Lord our God gave him up before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.

34 I zdobyliśmy w tym czasie wszystkie jego miasta, i zniszczyliśmy doszczętnie we wszystkich miastach mężczyzn, kobiety i dzieci; nie pozostawiliśmy [spośród nich] nikogo.

And we conquered all his cities at that time, and devoted every inhabited city, and the women, and the little ones; we left none that escaped.

35 Tylko bydło zagarnęliśmy dla siebie i łupy z miast, które zdobyliśmy.

Only the cattle we took as booty unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.

36 Od Aroeru, leżącego nad brzegiem rzeki Arnon, i od miasta położonego w dolinie aż do Gileadu nie było miasta nie do zdobycia; wszystkie wydał nam PAN, nasz Bóg.

From 'Aro'er, which is by the bank of the brook of Arnon, and the city that is in the brook, even unto Gil'ad, there was not one city which was too strong for us; the whole did the Lord our God give up before us.

37 Tylko do ziemi synów Ammona nie zbliżyłeś się, do żadnego miejsca na brzegu rzeki Jabbok ani do miast w górach, ani do żadnych miejsc, których PAN, nasz Bóg, nam zabronił.

Only unto the land of the children of 'Ammon didst thou not come nigh, unto the whole margin of the brook Yabbok, and the cities in the mountain, and unto whatsoever the Lord our God had forbidden us.
