II Samuela 2
1 Po tym wydarzeniu Dawid zapytał PANA: Czy mam iść do któregoś z miast Judy? PAN mu odpowiedział: Idź. I Dawid zapytał: Dokąd mam pójść? Odpowiedział: Do Hebronu.
After this David asked Yahweh and said, “Should I go up to one of the cities of Judah?” Yahweh replied to him, “Go up.” David said, “To which city should I go?” Yahweh replied, “To Hebron.”
2 Dawid wyruszył więc tam razem ze swoimi dwiema żonami: Achinoam Jizreelitką i Abigail, [dawną] żoną Nabala z Karmelu.
So David went up with his two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel, and Abigail from Carmel, the widow of Nabal.
3 Dawid zabrał także ludzi, którzy z nim byli, każdego z jego rodziną. I zamieszkali w miastach Hebronu.
David brought the men who were with him, who each brought his family, to the cities of Hebron, where they began to live.
4 Wtedy przyszli mężczyźni Judy i namaścili tam Dawida na króla nad domem Judy. Wówczas też doniesiono Dawidowi, że to mieszkańcy Jabesz-Gilead pogrzebali Saula.
Then men from Judah came and anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, “The men of Jabesh Gilead have buried Saul.”
5 Dawid wyprawił więc posłańców do mieszkańców Jabesz-Gilead z takim przesłaniem: Błogosławieni jesteście przez PANA, ponieważ okazaliście tę łaskę swemu panu Saulowi i pogrzebaliście go.
So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead and said to them, “You are blessed by Yahweh, since you have showed this loyalty to your master Saul and have buried him.
6 Niech teraz PAN okaże wam łaskę i prawdę, a ja też odwdzięczę się wam za to dzieło dobroci, którego dokonaliście.
Now may Yahweh show you covenantal loyalty and faithfulness. I also will show you this goodness because you have done this thing.
7 Teraz więc niech wasze ręce się umocnią i bądźcie dzielni, bo choć umarł wasz pan Saul, to mnie dom Judy namaścił na króla nad sobą.
Now then, let your hands be strong; be courageous for Saul your master is dead, and the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”
8 Lecz Abner, syn Nera, dowódca wojsk Saula, wziął Iszboszeta, syna Saula, i przyprowadził go do Machanaim;
But Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ishbosheth son of Saul and brought him to Mahanaim.
9 I ustanowił go królem nad Gileadem, Aszerem, Jizreelem, Efraimem, Beniaminem i całym Izraelem.
He made Ishbosheth king over Gilead, Asher, Jezreel, Ephraim, Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10 Iszboszet, syn Saula, miał czterdzieści lat, kiedy zaczął królować nad Izraelem, a panował dwa lata. Tylko dom Judy poszedł za Dawidem.
Ishbosheth son of Saul, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
11 A okres, w którym Dawid był królem w Hebronie nad domem Judy, wynosił siedem lat i sześć miesięcy.
The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
12 Potem Abner, syn Nera, i słudzy Iszboszeta, syna Saula, wyruszyli z Machanaim do Gibeonu.
Abner son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 Także Joab, syn Serui, wraz ze sługami Dawida wyruszyli i spotkali się przy stawie gibeońskim. Jedni zatrzymali się po jednej stronie stawu, a drudzy po drugiej stronie stawu.
Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. There they sat down, one group on one side of the pool and the other on the other side.
14 Wtedy Abner zawołał do Joaba: Niech teraz wstaną młodzieńcy i niech się bawią przed nami. I Joab odpowiedział: Niech wstaną.
Abner said to Joab, “Let the young men arise and compete before us.” Then Joab said, “Let them arise.”
15 Wstali więc i wystąpiła liczba dwunastu Beniaminitów ze strony Iszboszeta, syna Saula, i dwunastu spośród sług Dawida.
Then the young men got up and gathered together, twelve for Benjamin and Ishbosheth son of Saul, and twelve from servants of David.
16 Każdy pochwycił swego przeciwnika za głowę i [utopił] swój miecz w jego boku, tak że padli razem. Dlatego miejsce to nazwano Helkatassurym, leży ono w Gibeonie.
Each man seized his opponent by the head and thrust his sword into the side of his opponent, and they fell down together. Therefore that place was called “Helkath Hazzurim,” or “Field of Swords,” which is in Gibeon.
17 W tym dniu rozgorzała bardzo zacięta walka. Abner i wojownicy Izraela zostali pokonani przez sługi Dawida.
The battle was very severe that day and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated before the servants of David.
18 Byli tam również trzej synowie Serui: Joab, Abiszaj i Asahel. Asahel [był] szybkonogi jak dzika sarna.
The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was swift in his feet like a wild gazelle.
19 I Asahel ruszył w pogoń za Abnerem, i nie zbaczał ani w prawo, ani w lewo w tym pościgu za Abnerem.
Asahel closely pursued Abner and followed him without turning away in any direction.
20 A kiedy Abner obejrzał się za siebie, zapytał: Czy to ty jesteś, Asahelu? A on mu odpowiedział: To ja.
Abner looked behind him and said, “Is that you Asahel?” He answered, “It is I.”
21 Wtedy Abner powiedział mu: Skręć w prawo albo w lewo i schwytaj sobie jednego z młodzieńców, i zabierz sobie jego zbroję. Lecz Asahel nie chciał od niego odstąpić.
Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right or to your left, and seize one of the young men and take his armor.” But Asahel would not turn aside.
22 Abner ponownie więc powiedział do Asahela: Odstąp ode mnie. Czemu miałbym cię powalić na ziemię? Jakże mógłbym wtedy podnieść swoją twarz na Joaba, twego brata?
So Abner said again to Asahel, “Stop pursuing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I hold up my face to Joab, your brother?”
23 Gdy jednak nie chciał odstąpić, Abner uderzył go końcem włóczni pod piąte [żebro], tak że włócznia wyszła z drugiej strony. Padł tam i umarł na miejscu, a wszyscy, którzy przychodzili do tego miejsca, gdzie Asahel padł i umarł, przystawali.
But Asahel refused to turn aside, and so Abner stabbed him in the body with the blunt end of his spear, so that the spear came out the other side. Asahel fell down and died there. So it came about that anyone who arrived at the place where Asahel fell down and died, he stopped and stood still.
24 Lecz Joab i Abiszaj rzucili się w pogoń za Abnerem. I gdy zachodziło słońce, dotarli do wzgórza Amma, które leży naprzeciw Giach, przy drodze na pustynię Gibeon.
But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. When the sun was going down, they came to the hill of Ammah, which is near Giah by the road to the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 Wtedy synowie Beniamina zebrali się wokół Abnera, utworzyli jeden oddział i stanęli na szczycie pewnego wzgórza.
The men of Benjamin gathered themselves together behind Abner and stood on the top of the hill.
26 I Abner zawołał do Joaba: Czy miecz będzie pożerał na zawsze? Czy nie wiesz, że koniec będzie gorzki? Kiedy wreszcie powiesz ludowi, aby zawrócił od ścigania swych braci?
Then Abner called to Joab and said, “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not know it will be bitter in the end? How long will it be before you tell your men to stop pursuing their brothers?”
27 Joab odpowiedział: Jak żyje Bóg, gdybyś się nie odezwał, to dopiero rano lud odstąpiłby, każdy od ścigania swego brata.
Joab replied, “Just as God lives, if you had not said that, my soldiers would have pursued their brothers until the morning!”
28 Joab zadął więc w trąbę i cały lud zatrzymał się, i nie ścigał dalej Izraela ani nie wznowiono walki.
So Joab blew the trumpet, and all his men stopped and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore.
29 A Abner i jego ludzie szli całą noc przez step, przeprawili się przez Jordan i przeszli przez cały Bitron, aż dotarli do Machanaim.
Abner and his men traveled all that night through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all the next morning, and then reached Mahanaim.
30 Joab zaś, gdy zawrócił z pościgu za Abnerem, zebrał cały lud, a ze sług Dawida zabrakło dziewiętnastu mężczyzn oraz Asahela.
Joab returned from pursuing Abner. He assembled all his men, from whom were missing Asahel and nineteen of David's soldiers.
31 Słudzy Dawida natomiast tak pobili ludzi z Beniamina i spośród Abnera, że zmarło trzystu sześćdziesięciu mężczyzn.
But the men of David had killed 360 men of Benjamin with Abner.
32 Następnie zabrali Asahela i pogrzebali go w grobie jego ojca, w Betlejem. Potem Joab i jego ludzie szli całą noc i o świcie [dotarli] do Hebronu.
Then they took up Asahel and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men traveled all night, and the day dawned on them at Hebron.
