II Samuela 11
1 Na początku roku, w czasie, kiedy królowie zwykli wyjeżdżać [na wojnę], Dawid wysłał Joaba wraz ze swoimi sługami oraz cały Izrael. Spustoszyli oni synów Ammona i oblegli Rabbę. Dawid zaś został w Jerozolimie.
And it came to pass, after the year had expired, at the time when kings go forth [to battle], that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and destroyed Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.
2 Pewnego dnia pod wieczór Dawid wstał z łoża i przechadzał się po dachu domu królewskiego. I zobaczył z dachu kąpiącą się kobietę, a kobieta była bardzo piękna.
And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon.
3 I Dawid posłał, i zapytał o [tę] kobietę. I powiedziano mu: Czy to nie Batszeba, córka Eliama, żona Uriasza Chetyty?
And David sent and inquired after the woman. And [one] said, [Is] not this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
4 Dawid wysłał więc [po nią] posłańców i wziął ją. A gdy przyszła do niego, położył się z nią, gdyż była oczyszczona od swojej nieczystości. Potem wróciła do swego domu.
And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in to him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned to her house.
5 Kobieta ta poczęła, więc posłała, by zawiadomić Dawida: Jestem brzemienna.
And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I [am] with child.
6 Wtedy Dawid posłał do Joaba [rozkaz]: Przyślij do mnie Uriasza Chetytę. Joab wysłał więc Uriasza do Dawida.
And David sent to Joab, [saying], Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.
7 A [gdy] Uriasz przybył do niego, Dawid pytał [go] o to, jak się wiedzie Joabowi, jak się wiedzie ludowi i jak przebiega wojna.
And when Uriah had come to him, David inquired [of him] how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.
8 Następnie Dawid powiedział do Uriasza: Idź do swego domu i umyj sobie nogi. I Uriasz wyszedł z domu króla, a za nim niesiono potrawy od króla.
And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess [of meat] from the king.
9 Lecz Uriasz spał przy bramie domu króla razem ze wszystkimi sługami swego pana, a do swojego domu nie poszedł.
But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.
10 I doniesiono Dawidowi: Uriasz nie poszedł do swego domu. Dawid zapytał Uriasza: Czy nie przybyłeś z podróży? Czemu więc nie poszedłeś do swego domu?
And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down to his house, David said to Uriah, Camest thou not from [thy] journey? why [then] didst thou not go down to thy house?
11 Uriasz odpowiedział Dawidowi: Arka, Izrael i Juda przebywają w namiotach, mój pan Joab i słudzy mojego pana obozują w otwartym polu, a ja miałbym wejść do swojego domu, aby jeść, pić i spać ze swoją żoną? Jak żyjesz i jak żyje twoja dusza, nie uczynię tego.
And Uriah said to David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into my house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? [as] thou livest, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
12 Wtedy Dawid powiedział do Uriasza: Zostań tu jeszcze dziś, a jutro cię odprawię. I Uriasz został w Jerozolimie przez ten i kolejny dzień.
And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to-day also, and to-morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day and the morrow.
13 Potem Dawid wezwał go, aby jadł i pił w jego obecności, i upoił go. Lecz wieczorem wyszedł i spał na swoim łożu ze sługami swego pana, a do swego domu nie poszedł.
And when David had called him, he ate and drank before him; and he made him drunk: and at evening he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.
14 Następnego ranka Dawid napisał więc list do Joaba i wysłał go przez rękę Uriasza.
And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent [it] by the hand of Uriah.
15 A w liście napisał tak: Postawcie Uriasza na czele najbardziej zaciętej bitwy, a potem odstąpcie od niego, aby został trafiony i zginął.
And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the front of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
16 I kiedy Joab obejrzał miasto, postawił Uriasza w miejscu, o którym wiedział, że byli tam dzielni ludzie.
And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew that valiant men [were].
17 A gdy ludzie z miasta wypadli, stoczyli bitwę z Joabem i padło z ludu [kilka] sług Dawida, poległ także Uriasz Chetyta.
And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell [some] of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.
18 Wtedy Joab wysłał [posłańca] i zawiadomił Dawida o wszystkim, co działo się podczas bitwy.
Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;
19 A posłańcowi rozkazał: Gdy skończysz opowiadać królowi o tym, co się wydarzyło na bitwie;
And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war to the king,
20 I jeśli król się rozgniewa, i zapyta: Czemu podeszliście tak [blisko] do miasta, by walczyć? Czyż nie wiedzieliście, że strzelają z muru?
And if the king's wrath shall rise, and he shall say to thee, Why approached ye so nigh to the city for the fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?
21 Kto zabił Abimeleka, syna Jerubbeszeta? Czyż nie kobieta, która zrzuciła na niego z muru kawałek kamienia młyńskiego, tak że umarł w Tebes? Czemu podeszliście do muru? Wtedy powiesz: Zginął również twój sługa Uriasz Chetyta.
Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
22 Poszedł więc posłaniec, a gdy przybył, opowiedział Dawidowi wszystko, z czym wysłał go Joab.
So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.
23 Posłaniec mówił do Dawida: Tamci ludzie nas przemogli i wyszli przeciw nam na pole, a my ścigaliśmy ich aż do samej bramy.
And the messenger said to David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field, and we were upon them even to the entrance of the gate.
24 Wtedy łucznicy strzelali z muru do twoich sług i zginęło kilku ze sług króla. Zginął również twój sługa Uriasz Chetyta.
And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants: and [some] of the king's servants are dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.
25 Wtedy Dawid powiedział do posłańca: Tak powiesz Joabowi: Nie zamartwiaj się tą sprawą, bo miecz pożera raz tego, raz innego. Wzmocnij natarcie na miasto i zburz je, ty sam dodawaj mu otuchy.
Then David said to the messenger, Thus shalt thou say to Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.
26 A gdy żona Uriasza usłyszała, że jej mąż Uriasz umarł, zaczęła opłakiwać swego męża.
And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.
27 Kiedy żałoba przeminęła, Dawid posłał [po nią] i sprowadził ją do swego domu. Została jego żoną i urodziła mu syna. Lecz to, co zrobił Dawid, nie podobało się PANU.
And when the mourning was past, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife, and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.
