I Tymoteusza 3
1 Wiarygodne to słowa: Jeśli ktoś pragnie biskupstwa, pragnie dobrej pracy.
This is a faithful saying: If someone aspires to the office of bishop, he desires a good work.
2 Biskup więc ma być nienaganny, mąż jednej żony, czujny, trzeźwy, przyzwoity, gościnny, zdolny do nauczania;
The overseer, therefore, must be beyond criticism, the husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, good at teaching;
3 Nieoddający się piciu wina, nieskłonny do bicia, niełakomy na brudny zysk, ale opanowany, niekłótliwy, niechciwy;
not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money;
4 Dobrze rządzący własnym domem, trzymający dzieci w posłuszeństwie i wszelkim szacunku;
one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;
5 Jeśli bowiem ktoś nie umie rządzić własnym domem, jakże będzie mógł troszczyć się o kościół Boży?
(but if someone does not know how to manage his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?)
6 Nie nowicjusz, żeby nie wbił się w pychę i nie wpadł w potępienie diabelskie.
not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
7 Musi też mieć dobre świadectwo od tych, którzy są na zewnątrz, żeby nie [ściągał na siebie] hańby i nie wpadł w sidła diabła.
Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into disgrace and the trap of the devil.
8 Diakoni także [mają być] poważni, niedwulicowi, nienadużywający wina, niełakomi na brudny zysk;
Deacons, in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not devoted to a lot of wine, not greedy for money;
9 Zachowujący tajemnicę wiary w czystym sumieniu.
holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 I niech będą najpierw wypróbowani, a potem niech służą, jeśli są nienaganni.
Let them also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, if they are blamesless.
11 [Ich] żony także [niech będą] poważne, nierzucające oszczerstw, trzeźwe, wierne we wszystkim.
Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
12 Diakoni niech będą mężami jednej żony, rządzący dobrze dziećmi i własnymi domami.
Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 Ci bowiem, którzy dobrze pełnią służbę, zyskują sobie zaszczytny stopień i wielką śmiałość w wierze, która jest w Chrystusie Jezusie.
For those who have served well as deacons gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 Piszę ci to, mając nadzieję, że wkrótce przybędę do ciebie.
These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;
15 A gdybym się opóźniał, [piszę, abyś] wiedział, jak należy postępować w domu Bożym, który jest kościołem Boga żywego, filarem i podporą prawdy.
but if I wait long, that you may know how people ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 A bez wątpienia wielka jest tajemnica pobożności: Bóg objawiony został w ciele, usprawiedliwiony w Duchu, widziany był przez anioły, głoszony był poganom, uwierzono mu na świecie, wzięty został w górę do chwały.
Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: He was revealed in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.
