1 Przypowieści Salomona, syna Dawidowego, króla Izraelskiego,
The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2 Dla poznania mądrości i ćwiczenia, ku wyrozumieniu powieści roztropnych;
That one may learn wisdom and instruction, And receive words of understanding;
3 Dla pojęcia ćwiczenia w rozumie, w sprawiedliwości, w sądzie i w prawości;
That one may gain the instruction of prudence, Justice, equity, and uprightness;
4 Dla podania prostakom ostrożności, młodemu umiejętności, i opatrzności.
Which will give caution to the simple, To the young man wisdom and discretion;
5 Tych gdy mądry słuchać będzie, przybędzie mu nauki, a roztropny w radach opatrzniejszy będzie,
Let the wise man hear, and he will increase his knowledge, And the man of understanding will gain wise counsels;
6 Aby zrozumiał przypowieści, i wykłady ich, słowa mądrych i zagadki ich.
So as to understand a proverb and a deep maxim, The words of the wise and their dark sayings.
7 Bojaźń Pańska jest początkiem umiejętności; ale głupi mądrością i ćwiczeniem gardzą.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8 Słuchaj, synu mój! ćwiczenia ojca twego, a nie opuszczaj nauki matki twojej.
Hear, O my son! the instruction of thy father, And neglect not the teaching of thy mother!
9 Bo to przyda wdzięczności głowie twojej, i będzie łańcuchem kosztownym szyi twojej.
For they shall be a graceful wreath for thy head, And a chain around thy neck.
10 Synu mój! jeżliby cię namawiali grzesznicy, nie przyzwalaj.
My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not!
11 Jeźlićby rzekli: Pójdź z nami, czyhajmy na krew, zasadźmy się na niewinnego bez przyczyny;
If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us lurk secretly for him who is innocent in vain;
Let us swallow them up alive, like the underworld, Yea, in full health, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
13 Wszelkiej majętności kosztownej nabędziemy, napełnimy domy nasze korzyścią;
We shall find all kinds of precious substance, We shall fill our houses with spoil;
14 Rzuć między nas los twój; mieszek jeden wszyscy mieć będziemy.
Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse;”—
15 Synu mójâ nie chodźże z nimi w drogę; zawściągnij nogi twojej od ścieżek ich.
My son, walk thou not in their way, Refrain thy foot from their path!
16 Albowiem nogi ich ku złemu bieżą, i spieszą się na wylanie krwi.
For their feet run to evil, And make haste to shed blood.
17 Bo jako próżno zastawiają sieci przed oczyma wszelkiego ptaka skrzydlastego:
For as the net is spread in vain Before the eyes of any bird,
18 Tak i ci na krew swoję czyhają, a zasadzają się na duszę swoję.
So they lie in wait for their own blood; They lurk secretly for their own lives.
19 Takieć są ścieszki każdego czyhającego na zysk, który duszę pana swego odbiera.
Such are the ways of every one greedy of unjust gain; It taketh away the life of the possessor thereof.
20 Mądrość na dworzu woła, głos swój na ulicach wydaje.
Wisdom crieth out in the highway; In the market-place she uttereth her voice;
21 W największym zgiełku woła, u wrót bram, w miastach powieści swoje opowiada, mówiąc:
At the head of the noisy streets she crieth aloud; At the entrances of the gates, throughout the city, she proclaimeth her words [[saying]]:
22 Prostacy! dokądże się kochać będziecie w prostocie? a naśmiewcy pośmiewisko miłować będziecie? a głupi nienawidzieć umiejętności będziecie?
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? How long will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?
23 Nawróćcież się na karanie moje; oto wam wydam ducha mojego, a podam wam do znajomości słowa moje.
Turn ye at my reproof! Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make known my words to you!
24 Ponieważem wołała, a nie chcieliście; wyciągałam rękę moję, a nie był, ktoby uważał;
“Because I have called, and ye have refused, —Because I have stretched out my hand, and no one hath regarded.
25 Owszem odrzuciliście wszystkę radę moję, a karności mojej nie chcieliście przyjąć;
Because ye have rejected all my counsel, And have slighted my rebuke, —
26 Przetoż ja w zginieniu waszem śmiać się będę, będę z was szydziła, gdy przyjdzie, czego się strachacie.
I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;
27 Gdy przyjdzie jako spustoszenie, czego się strachacie, i gdy zginienie wasze przypadnie jako wicher, gdy przyjdzie na was ucisk i utrapienie;
When your fear cometh upon you like a storm. And destruction overtaketh you like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 Tedy mię wzywać będą, a nie nie wysłucham; szukać mię będą z poranku, a nie znajdą mię.
Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer! They will seek me early, But they shall not find me!
29 Przeto, iż mieli w nienawiści umiejętność, a bojaźni Pańskiej nie obrali sobie,
Because they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of the LORD, —
30 Ani przestawali na radzie mijej, ale gardzili wszelką karnością moją:
Because they would not attend to my counsel, And have despised all my reproof, —
31 Przetoż będą używać owocu dróg swoich, a radami swemi nasyceni będą.
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own devices;
32 Bo odwrócenie prostaków pozabija ich, a szczęście głupich wytraci ich.
Yea, the turning away of the simple shall slay them, And the carelessness of fools shall destroy them.
33 Ale kto mię słucha, bezpiecznie mieszkać będzie, a będzie wolny od strachu złych rzeczy.
But whoso hearkeneth to me shall dwell securely, And shall not be disquieted with the fear of evil.”
