1 Synu mój! strzeż słów moich, a przykazanie moje chowaj u siebie.
My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Strzeż przykazań moich, a żyć będziesz; a nauki mojej, jako źrenicy oczów swych.
Keep my commandments and live, and my teaching as the apple of thine eye.
3 Uwiąż je na palcach twoich, napisz je na tablicy serca twego.
Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thy heart.
4 Mów mądrości: Siostraś ty moja, a roztropność przyjaciółką nazywaj,
Say unto wisdom: 'Thou art my sister', and call understanding thy kinswoman;
5 Aby cię strzegły od żony cudzej, i od obcej, która mówi łagodne słowa.
That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the alien woman that maketh smooth her words.
6 Bom oknem domu swego przez kratę moję wyglądał;
For at the window of my house I looked forth through my lattice;
7 I widziałem między prostakami, obaczyłem między synami młodzieńca głupiego,
And I beheld among the thoughtless ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Który szedł ulicą przy rogu jej, drogą postępując ku domowi jej.
Passing through the street near her corner, and he went the way to her house;
9 Ze zmierzkiem pod wieczór, w ciemności nocnej, i w mroku.
In the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the blackness of night and the darkness.
10 A oto niewiasta spotkała go, w ubiorze wszetecznicy, chytrego serca,
And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and wily of heart.
11 Świegotliwa i nie ukrócona, a w domu własnym nie mogły się ostać nogi jej;
She is riotous and rebellious, her feet abide not in her house;
12 Raz na dworzu, raz na ulicach i po wszystkich kątach zasadzki czyniąca;
Now she is in the streets, now in the broad places, and lieth in wait at every corner.
13 I uchwyciła go, i pocałowała go, a złożywszy wstyd z twarzy swojej, rzekła mu:
So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face she said unto him:
14 Ofiary spokojne są u mnie; dzisiajm oddała śluby moje.
'Sacrifices of peace-offerings were due from me; this day have I paid my vows.
15 Przetożem wyszła przeciw tobie, abym pilnie szukała twarzy twojej, i znalazłam cię.
Therefore came I forth to meet thee, to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 Obiłam kobiercami łoże moje, ozdobione rzezaniem i prześcieradłami egipskiemi.
I have decked my couch with coverlets, with striped cloths of the yarn of Egypt.
17 Potrząsnęłam pokój swój myrrą, aloesem, i cynamonem.
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Pójdźże, opójmy się miłością aż do poranku, ucieszmy się miłością.
Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 Boć męża mego w domu niemasz; pojechał w drogę daleką.
For my husband is not at home, he is gone a long journey;
20 Worek pieniędzy wziął z sobą; dnia pewnego wróci się do domu swego.
He hath taken the bag of money with him; he will come home at the full moon.'
21 I nakłoniła go wielą słów swoich, a łagodnością warg swoich zniewoliła go.
With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield, with the blandishment of her lips she enticeth him away.
22 Wnet poszedł za nią, jako wół, gdy go na rzeź wiodą, a jako głupi do pęta, którem karany bywa.
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox that goeth to the slaughter, or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;
23 I przebiła strzałą wątrobę jego; kwapił się jako ptak do sidła, nie wiedząc, iż je zgotowano na duszę jego.
Till an arrow strike through his liver; as a bird hasteneth to the snare — and knoweth not that it is at the cost of his life.
24 Przetoż teraz, synowie! słuchajcie mię, a bądźcie pilni powieści ust moich.
Now therefore, O ye children, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Niechaj się nie uchyla za drogami jej serce twoje, ani się tułaj po ścieszkach jej.
Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 Albowiem wielu zraniwszy poraziła, i mocarze wszyscy pozabijani są od niej.
For she hath cast down many wounded; yea, a mighty host are all her slain.
