1 Synu mój! bądź pilen mądrości mojej, a ku mojej roztropności nakłoń ucha twego,
My son, attend to my wisdom. And bow thine ear to my understanding;
2 Abyś strzegł ostrożności, a umiejętność aby wargi twoje zachowała.
That thou mayest keep discretion, And that thy lips may preserve knowledge!
3 Bo choć niewiasty obcej wargi miodem opływają, a gładsze niż oliwa usta jej:
Truly, the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 Ale ostatnie rzeczy jej gorzkie jak piołun, a ostre jako miecz na obie strony ostry.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
Her feet go down to death; Her steps lay hold of the under-world. (Sheol h7585)
6 Jeźlibyś zważyć chciał ścieszkę żywota jej, nie pewne są drogi jej, nie poznasz ich.
That she may not ponder the way of life, Her paths waver when she heedeth it not.
7 Przetoż teraz, synowie! słuchajcie mię, a nie odstępujcie od powieści ust moich.
Hear me now, therefore, O children! And turn not away from the words of my mouth!
8 Oddal od niej drogę twoję, a nie przybliżaj się ku drzwiom domu jej.
Remove thy way far from her. And come not nigh the door of her house:
9 Byś snać nie podał obcym sławy twojej, a lat twoich okrutnikowi;
Lest thou give thy bloom to others, And thy years to a cruel one;
10 By się snać nie nasycili obcy siłą twoją, a prace twoje nie zostały w domu cudzym;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, And thine earnings be in the house of an alien;
11 I narzekałbyś w ostateczne czasy twoje, gdybyś zniszczył czerstwość twoję i ciało twoje;
And lest thou mourn in thy latter end. When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12 I rzekłbyś: O jakożem miał ćwiczenie w nienawiści, a strofowaniem gardziło serce moje!
And say, “How have I hated instruction! And how hath my heart despised reproof!
13 Nie słuchałem głosu ćwiczących mię, a tym, którzy mię uczyli, nie nakłaniałem ucha mego!
I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to my instructors;
14 Maluczkom nie przyszedł we wszystko nieszczęście, w pośród zebrania i zgromadzenia.
I have well-nigh fallen into utter misery; In the midst of the congregation and the assembly.”
15 Pij wodę ze zdroju twego, a wody płynące ze źródła twego!
Drink water out of thine own cistern. And running water out of thine own well:
16 Niech się precz rozchodzą źródła twoje, a po ulicach strumienie wód.
So shall thy fountains overflow in the streets, In the wide streets, as streams of water;
17 Miej je sam dla siebie, a nie obcy z tobą.
They shall belong to thee alone, And not to strangers with thee;
18 Niech nie będzie zdrój twój błogosławiony, a wesel się z żony młodości twojej.
And thy fountain shall be blessed, Yea, thou shalt have joy in the wife of thy youth.
19 Niechżeć będzie jako łani wdzięczna, i sarna rozkodzna; niech cię nasycają piersi jej na każdy czas, w miłości jej kochaj się ustawicznie.
A lovely hind, a graceful doe, Her breasts shall satisfy thee at all times, And thou shalt be always ravished with her love.
20 Bo przeczże się masz kochać w obcej, synu mój! i odpoczywać na łonie cudzej?
Why, then, my son, wilt thou be ravished with a wanton, And embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 Gdyż przed oczyma Pańskiemi są drogi człowiecze, a on wszystkie ścieszki jego waży.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And he weigheth well all his paths.
22 Nieprawości własne pojmają niezbożnika, a w powrozach grzechu swego uwikle się.
His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked; Yea, he shall be held fast by the cords of his own sins.
23 Onci umrze, przeto, że nie przyjmował ćwiczenia, a dla wielkości głupstwa swego będzie błądził.
He shall die for want of instruction; Yea, through the greatness of his folly he shall stagger.
