1 Słuchajcie synowie! ćwiczenia ojcowskiego, a pilnujcie, abyście umieli roztropność;
Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 Albowiem wam naukę dobrą daję; zakonu mego nie opuszczajcie.
For I give you a good gift; forsake you not my law.
3 Gdybym był młodziuchnym synem u ojca mego, i jedynakiem u matki mojej,
For I also was a son obedient to [my] father, and loved in the sight of [my] mother:
4 On mię uczył, powiadając mi: Niech się chwyci powieści moich serce twoje, strzeż przytkazań moich, a będziesz żył.
who spoke and instructed me, [saying], Let our speech be fixed in your heart, keep [our] commandments, forget them not:
5 Nabywaj mądrości, nabywaj roztropności; nie zapominaj, ani się uchylaj od powieści ust moich.
and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.
6 Nie opuszczaj jej, a będzie cię strzegła; rozmiłuj się jej, a zachowa cię.
And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to you: love it, and it shall keep you.
7 Początkiem wszystkiego jest mądrość, nabywajże mądrości, a za wzystkę majętność twoję nabywaj roztropności.
8 Wywyższaj ją, a wywyższy cię, rozsławi cię, gdy ją przyjmiesz.
Secure it, and it shall exalt you: honour it, that it may embrace you;
9 Przyda głowie twojej wdzięczności, koroną ozdoby obdarzy cię.
that it may give to your head a crown of graces, and may cover you with a crown of delight.
10 Słuchaj, synu mój! a przyjmij powieści moje, a rozmnożąć lata żywota.
Hear, [my] son, and receive my words; and the years of your life shall be increased, that the resources of your life may be many.
11 Drogi mądrości nauczam cię; po ścieszkach prostych wiodę cię;
For I teach you the ways of wisdom; and I cause you to go in right paths.
12 Któremi gdy pójdziesz, nie będzie ściśniony chód twój; a jeźli pobieżysz, nie potkniesz sií.
For when you go, your steps shall not be straitened; and when you run, you shall not be distressed.
13 Przyjmij őwiczenie, nie puszczaj się go, strzeż go; albowiem ono jest żywotem twoim.
Take hold of my instruction; let it not go, —but keep it for yourself for your life.
14 Ścieszką niepobożnych nie chodź, a nie udawaj się drogą złośliwych.
Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.
15 Opuść ją, nie chodź po niej; uchyl się od niej, a omiń ją.
In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not there; but turn from them, and pass away.
16 Boć oni nie zasną, aż co złego zbroją; ani się uspokoją, aż kogo do upadku przywiodą;
For they can’t sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.
17 Albowiem jedzą chleb niezbożności, a wino drapiestwa piją,
For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with wine of transgression.
18 Ale ścieszka sprawiedliwych jako światłość jasna, która im dalej tem bardziej świeci, aż do dnia doskonałego.
But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.
19 Droga zaś niepobożnych jest jako ciemność; nie wiedzą, o co sií otrącić mogą.
But the ways of the ungodly are dark; they know not how they stumble.
20 Synu mój! słów moich pilnuj; ku powieściom moim nakłoń ucha twojego.
[My] son, attend to my speech; and apply your ear to my words:
21 Niech nie odchodzą od oczów twoich, zachowaj je w pośród serca twego.
that your fountains may not fail you; keep them in [your] heart.
22 Albowiem żywotem są tym, którzy je znajdują, a wszystkiemu ciału ich lekarstwem.
For they are life to those that find them, and health to all [their] flesh.
23 Nad wszystko, czego ludzie strzegą, strzeż serca twego; bo z niego żywot pochodzi.
Keep your heart with the utmost care; for out of these are the issues of life.
24 Oddal od siebie przewrotność ust, a złośliwe wargi oddal od siebie.
Remove from you a froward mouth, and put far away from you unjust lips.
25 Oczy twoje niechaj na dobre rzeczy patrzą, a powieki twoje niech drogę przed tobą prostują.
Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids assent [to] just [things].
26 Umiarkuj ścieżkę nóg twoich, aby wszystkie drogi twoje pewne były.
Make straight paths for your feet, and order your ways aright.
27 Nie uchylaj się na prawo ani na lewo; owszem, odwróć nogę twoję od złego.
Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but turn away your foot from an evil way.
