1 Jako śnieg w lecie, i jako deszcz we żniwa; tak głupiemu nie przystoi chwała.
As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so, unbecoming to a dullard is honour.
2 Jako się ptak tam i sam tuła, i jako jaskółka lata: tak przeklęstwo niezasłużone nie przyjdzie.
As a sparrow in wandering, as a swallow in flying, so, a causeless curse, shall not alight.
3 Bicz na konia, ogłów na osła, a kij potrzebny jest na grzbiet głupiego.
A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of dullards.
4 Nie odpowiadaj głupiemu według głupstwa jego, abyś mu i ty nie był podobny.
Do not answer a dullard, according to his folly, lest, even thou thyself, become like him;
5 Odpowiedz głupiemu według głupstwa jego, aby się sobie nie zdał być mądrym.
Answer a dullard according to his folly, lest he become wise in his own eyes.
6 Jakoby nogi obciął, tak się bezprawia dopuszcza, kto się głupiemu poselstwa powierza.
One who cutteth off feet, one who drinketh down wrong, is he who sendeth a message by the hand of a dullard.
7 Jako nierówne są golenie u chromego: tak jest powieść w ustach głupich.
Useless are the legs of the lame, and a proverb, in the mouth of a dullard.
8 Jako kiedy kto przywiązuje kamień drogi do procy: tak czyni ten, który uczciwość głupiemu wyrządza.
Like tying a stone to a sling, so, is he that giveth honour, to a dullard.
9 Jako ciernie, gdy się dostaną w rękę pijanego: tak przypowieść jest w ustach głupich.
A brier cometh into the hand of a drunken-man, a proverb into the mouth of dullards.
10 Wielki Pan stworzył wszystko, a daje zapłatę głupiemu, daje także zapłatę przestępcom.
[As] an archer who woundeth every thing, [so] one who hireth a dullard, and a drunkard crossing the sea.
11 Jako pies wraca się do zwrócenia swego: tak głupi powtarza głupstwo swoje.
As, a dog, returneth onto his own vomit, a dullard, repeateth his folly.
12 Ujrzyszli człowieka, co się sobie zda być mądrym, nadzieja o głupim lepsza jest, niżeli o nim.
Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eye, —more hope of a dullard, than of him!
13 Leniwy mówi: lew na drodze, lew na ulicach.
Saith the sluggard, A roaring lion in the road! A tearing lion in the midst of the broadways.
14 Jako się drzwi obracają na zawiasach swoich: tak leniwiec na łóżku swojem.
The door, turneth on its hinges, and, the sluggard, upon his bed.
15 Leniwiec rękę kryje do zanadrzy swych, a ciężko mu jej podnosić do ust swoich.
The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, he is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.
16 Leniwiec zda się sobie być mędrszym, niżeli siedm odpowiadających z rozsądkiem.
Wiser is the sluggard in his own eyes, than, seven persons, who can answer with judgment.
17 Jakoby też psa za uszy łapał, kto się mimo idąc w cudzą zwadę wdaje.
As he who layeth hold of the ears of a dog, is a passer-by, who giveth vent to his wrath over a quarrel, not his!
18 Jako szalony wypuszcza iskry i strzały śmiertelne:
As a madman throwing firebrands, arrows and death,
19 Tak jest każdy, który podchodzi przyjaciela swego, a mówi: Azam ja nie żartował?
So, is a man who deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Was not, I, in sport?
20 Gdy niestaje drew, gaśnie ogień; tak gdy nie będzie klatecznika, ucichnie zwada.
Without wood a fire is quenched, and, where there is no tattler, strife is hushed.
21 Jako węgiel martwy służy do rozniecenia, i drwa do ognia; tak człowiek swarliwy do rozniecenia zwady.
Black coal to burning blocks, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man, for kindling strife.
22 Słowa obmówcy są jako słowa zranionych; a wszakże przenikają do wnętrzności żywota.
the words of a tattler, are dainties, they, therefore go down into the chambers of the inner man.
23 Wargi nieprzyjacielskie i serce złe są jako srebrna piana, którą polewają naczynie gliniane.
Dross silver overlaid upon earthenware, so are burning lips, with a mischievous heart:
24 Ten, co kogo nienawidzi, za inszego się udaje wargami swemi; ale w sercu swojem myśli o zdradzie.
With his lips, the hater dissembleth, but, within himself, he layeth up deceit:
25 Gdyć się ochotnym mową swą ukazuje, nie wierz mu: bo siedmioraka obrzydliwość jest w sercu jego.
Though he make gracious his voice, do not trust him, for, seven abominations, are in his heart:
26 Nienawiść zdradliwie bywa pokryta; ale odkryta bywa złość jej w zgromadzeniu.
Hatred may clothe itself with guile, his wickedness shall be disclosed in the convocation.
27 Kto drugiemu dół kopie, wpada weń; a kto kamień toczy, na niego się obraca.
He that diggeth a pit, thereinto, shall fall, and, he that rolleth a stone, upon himself, shall it return.
28 Człowiek języka kłamliwego ma utrapienie w nienawiści, a usta łagodne przywodzą do upadku.
A false tongue, hateth them who are crushed by it, and, a flattering mouth, worketh occasion of stumbling.
