1 Wino czyni pośmiewcę, a napój mocny zwajcę; przetoż każdy, co się w nim kocha, nie bywa mądrym.
Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.
2 Strach królewski jest jako, ryk lwięcia; kto go rozgniewa, grzeszy przeciwko duszy swojej.
The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3 Uczciwa rzecz każdemu, poprzestać zwady; ale głupim jest, co się w nią wdaje.
It is an honour for a man to cease from strife; but every fool rusheth into it.
4 Dla zimna leniwy nie orze; przetoż żebrać będzie we żniwa, ale nic nie otrzyma.
The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Rada w sercu męża jest jako woda głęboka: jednak mąż rozumny naczerpnie jej.
Counsel in the heart of man is deep water, and a man of understanding draweth it out.
6 Większa część ludzi przechwala się uczynnością swoją; ale w samej rzeczy, któż takiego znajdzie?
Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but a faithful man who shall find?
7 Sprawiedliwy chodzi w uprzejmości swojej; błogosławieni synowie jego po nim.
The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!
8 Król siedząc na stolicy sądowej rozgania oczyma swemi wszystko złe.
A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9 Któż rzecze: Oczyściłem serce moje? czystym jest od grzechu mego?
Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10 Dwojaki gwicht i dwojaka miara, to oboje obrzydliwością jest Panu.
Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.
11 Po zabawach swych poznane bywa i dziecię, jeźli czysty i prawy uczynek jego.
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12 Ucho, które słyszy, i oko, które widzi, Pan to oboje uczynił.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
13 Nie kochaj się w spaniu, byś snać nie zubożał, otwórz oczy swoje, a nasycisz się chlebem.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 Złe to, złe to, mówi ten, co kupuje, a odszedłszy, ali się chlubi.
Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Wargi umiejętne są jako złoto i obfitość pereł, i kosztowne klejnoty.
There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.
16 Weźmij szatę tego, któryć ręczył za obcego; a od tego, który ręczył za cudzoziemkę, weźmij zastaw jego.
Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.
17 Smaczny jest drugiemu chleb kłamstwa; ale potem piaskiem napełnione będą usta jego.
Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18 Myśli radami utwierdzaj, a wojnę prowadź opatrznie.
Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.
19 Kto objawia tajemnicę, zdradliwie się obchodzi; przetoż z tymy, którzy pochlebiają wargami swemi, nie miej towarzystwa.
He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.
20 Kto złorzeczy ojcu swemu albo matce swojej, zgaśnie pochodnia jego w gęstych ciemnościach.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
21 Dziedzictwu prędko z początku nabytemu naostatek błogosławić nie będą.
An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
22 Nie mów: Oddam złem. Oczekuj na Pana, a wybawi cię.
Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.
23 Obrzydliwością Panu dwojaki gwicht, a szale fałszywe nie podobają mu się.
Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.
24 Od Pana bywają sprawowane drogi męża; ale człowiek jakoż zrozumie drogę jego?
The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?
25 Pożreć rzecz poświęconą, jest człowiekowi sidłem; a poślubiwszy co, tego zaś szukać, jakoby tego ujść.
It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.
26 Król mądry rozprasza niezbożnych, i przywodzi na nich pomstę.
A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27 Dusza ludzka jest pochodnią Pańską, która doświadcza wszystkich skrytości wnętrznych.
Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.
28 Miłosierdzie i prawda króla strzegą, a stolica jego miłosierdziem wsparta bywa.
Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.
29 Ozdoba młodzieńców jest siła ich, a sędziwość poczciwością starców.
The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
30 Złemu są lekarstwem siności ran, i razy przenikające do wnętrzności żywota jego.
Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes [purge] the inner parts of the belly.
