1 Lepszy jest ubogi, który chodzi w uprzejmości swej, niżeli przewrotny w wargach swoich, który jest głupim.
Better is the poor man who walketh in his integrity, Than he who is of false lips and a fool.
2 Zaiste duszy bez umiejętności nie dobrze, a kto jest prędkich nóg, potknie się.
Moreover, that the soul be without knowledge is not good, And he that hasteth with is feet stumbleth.
3 Głupstwo człowiecze podwraca drogę jego, a przecie przeciwko Panu zapala się gniewem serce jego.
The folly of man destroyeth his way, And then his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4 Bogactwa przyczyniają wiele przyjaciół; ale ubogi od przyjaciela swego odłączony bywa.
Wealth maketh many friends; But the poor is separated from his neighbor.
5 Fałszywy świadek nie będzie bez pomsty; a kto mówi kłamstwo, nie ujdzie.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, And he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6 Wielu się ich uniża przed księciem, a każdy jest przyjacielem mężowi szczodremu.
Many are they who caress the noble, And every one is the friend of him who giveth gifts.
7 Wszyscy bracia ubogiego nienawidzą go; daleko więcej inni przyjaciele jego oddalają się od niego; woła za nimi, a niemasz ich.
All the brethren of the poor man hate him; How much more do his friends go far from him! He runneth after their words, —they are gone!
8 Nabywa rozumu, kto miłuje duszę swoję, a strzeże roztropności, aby znalazł co dobrego.
He that getteth wisdom loveth himself; He that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Świadek fałszywy nie będzie bez pomsty; a kto mówi kłamstwo, zginie.
A false witness shall not be unpunished, And he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10 Nie przystoi głupiemu rozkosz, ani słudze panować nad książętami.
Luxury is not seemly for a fool; Much less should a servant have rule over princes.
11 Rozum człowieczy zawściąga gniew jego, a ozdoba jego jest mijać przestępstwo.
A man of understanding is slow to anger; Yea, it is his glory to pass over an offence.
12 Zapalczywość królewska jest jako ryk lwięcia; ale łaska jego jest jako rosa na trawie.
The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; But his favor, like dew upon the grass.
13 Syn głupi jest utrapieniem ojcu swemu, a żona swarliwa jest jako ustawiczne kapanie przez dach.
A foolish son is a calamity to his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 Dom i majętność dziedzictwem przypada po rodzicach; ale żona roztropna jest od Pana.
Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 Lenistwo przywodzi twardy sen, a dusza gnuśna będzie łaknęła.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep, And the idle person shall suffer hunger.
16 Kto strzeże przykazania, strzeże duszy swojej; ale kto gardzi drogami swemi, zginie.
He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his life; But he that neglecteth his ways shall die.
17 Panu pożycza, kto ma litość nad ubogim, a on mu za dobrodziejstwo jego odda.
He who hath pity on the poor lendeth to the LORD, And that which he giveth will he repay him.
18 Karz syna swego, póki o nim nadzieja, a zabiegając zginieniu jego niech mu nie folguje dusza twoja.
Chasten thy son because there is hope, But let not thy soul desire to slay him.
19 Wielki gniew okazuj, kiedy odpuszczasz karanie, grożąc mu, ponieważ odpuszczasz, że potem srożej karać będziesz.
A man of great wrath will suffer punishment; For if thou deliver him, yet must thou do it again.
20 Słuchaj rady, a przyjmuj karność, abyś kiedyżkolwiek był mądrym.
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That thou mayst be wise in thy latter years.
21 Wiele jest myśli w sercu człowieczem; ale rada Pańska, ta się ostoi.
Many are the devices in the heart of a man; But the purpose of the LORD, that shall stand.
22 Pożądana rzecz człowiekowi dobroczynność jego, ale lepszy jest ubogi, niż mąż kłamliwy.
The charm of a man is his kindness; And better is a poor man than a liar.
23 Bojażń Pańska prowadzi do żywota, a kto ją ma, w obfitości mieszka, i nie spotka go nieszczęście.
The fear of the LORD tendeth to life, And he that hath it shall abide satisfied; He shall not be visited with evil.
24 Leniwy kryje rękę swą pod pachę, i do ust swych nie podnosi jej.
The slothful man dippeth his hand into the dish: He doth not bring it back even to his mouth.
25 Bij naśmiewcę, żeby prostak był ostrożniejszym; a roztropnego sfukaj, żeby zrozumiał umiejętność.
Strike the scoffer, and the simple will become prudent; Reprove a man of understanding, and he will discern knowledge.
26 Syn wstyd i hańbę zadawający, ojca gubi i matkę wygania.
The son that causeth shame and disgrace doeth violence to his father, And chaseth away his mother.
27 Synu mój! przestań słuchać nauki, któraby cię odwodziła od mów rozumnych.
Cease, my son, to listen to the instruction That causeth thee to wander from the words of knowledge!
28 Świadek złośliwy pośmiewa się z sądu, a usta niezbożnych połykają nieprawość.
A worthless witness scoffeth at justice, And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth down iniquity.
29 Sądy są na pośmiewców zgotowane, a guzy na grzbiet głupich.
Punishments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools.
