1 Potem gdy mieszkał Izrael w Syttim, począł lud cudzołożyć z córkami Moabskiemi,
And Israel sojourned in Sattin, and the people profaned itself by going a-whoring after the daughters of Moab.
2 Które wzywały ludu ku ofiarom bogów swoich; a jedząc lud kłaniał się bogom ich.
And they called them to the sacrifices of their idols; and the people ate of their sacrifices, and worshipped their idols.
3 I przyłączył się Izrael do służby Baal Fegora; skąd się rozgniewał Pan bardzo na Izraela.
And Israel consecrated themselves to Beel-phegor; and the Lord was very angry with Israel.
4 Rzekł tedy Pan do Mojżesza: Zbierz wszystkie książęta z ludu, a każ im, te przestępce powieszać Panu przed słońcem, aby się odwrócił gniew popędliwości Pańskiej od Izraela.
And the Lord said to Moses, Take all the princes of the people, and make them examples [of judgment] for the Lord in the face of the sun, and the anger of the Lord shall be turned away from Israel.
5 Przetoż rzekł Mojżesz do sędziów Izraelskich: Zabijcie każdy z was męże swe, którzy się spospolitowali z Baal Fegorem.
And Moses said to the tribes of Israel, Slay you every one his friend that is consecrated to Beel-phegor.
6 A oto, niektóry z synów Izraelskich przyszedł i przywiódł do braci swej Madyjanitkę przed oczyma Mojżeszowemi, i przed oczyma wszystkiego zgromadzenia synów Izraelskich; a oni płakali przed drzwiami namiotu zgromadzenia.
And, behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought his brother to a Madianitish woman before Moses, and before all the congregation of the children of Israel; and they were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of witness.
7 Co gdy ujrzał Finees, syn Eleazara, syna Aarona kapłana, wstawszy z pośrodku zgromadzenia, wziął oszczep w ręce swoje.
And Phinees the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, and rose out of the midst of the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand,
8 A wszedłszy za onym mężem Izraelskim do namiotu, przebił oboje, męża Izraelskiego, i niewiastę przez żywot jej, i odwrócona była plaga od synów Izraelskich.
and went in after the Israelitish man into the chamber, and pierced them both through, both the Israelitish man, and the woman through her womb; and the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9 A było tych, co pomarli oną plagą, dwadzieścia i cztery tysiące.
And those that died in the plague were four and twenty thousand.
10 Potem rzekł Pan do Mojżesza, mówiąc:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

Phinees the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest has caused my wrath to cease from the children of Israel, when I was exceedingly jealous among them, and I did not consume the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Przetoż powiedz mu: Oto, Ja stanowię z nim przymierze moje, przymierze pokoju;
Thus do you say [to him], Behold, I give him a covenant of peace:
13 I przyjdzie nań, i na nasienie jego po nim, przymierze kapłaństwa wiecznego, że się wzruszył zapalczywością za Boga swego, i oczyścił syny Izraelskie
and he and his seed after him shall have a perpetual covenant of priesthood, because he was zealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Israel.
14 A imię onego męża Izraelskiego zabitego, który zabity był z Madyjanitką, było Zamry, syn Salów, książę domu ojca swego, z pokolenia Symeonowego.
Now the name of the struck Israelitish man, who was struck with the Madianitish woman, [was] Zambri son of Salmon, prince of a house of the tribe of Symeon.

16 I rzekł Pan do Mojżesza, mówiąc:
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying,
17 Staw się nieprzyjacielem Madyjanitom, a pobijcie je,
Plague the Madianites as enemies, and strike them,
18 Ponieważ i oni stawili się wam nieprzyjaciołmi zdradami swemi, a podeszli was przez Baal Fegora, i przez Kozbę, córkę książęcia Madyjańskiego, siostrę swą, która zabita jest w dzień kaźni dla bałwana Fegor.
for they are enemies to you by the treachery wherein they ensnare you through Phogor, and through Chasbi their sister, daughter of a prince of Madiam, who was struck in the day of the plague because of Phogor.
