1 Stamtąd ruszyli się synowie Izraelscy, i położyli się obozem na polach Moabskich, z tej strony Jordanu przeciw Jerychowi.
And the children of Israel set forward, and encamped in the plains of Moab, on this side of the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
2 A widząc Balak, syn Seforów, wszystko, co uczynił Izrael Amorejczykowi,
And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Emorites.
3 Uląkł się Moab tego ludu wielce, bo go było wiele; i zatrwożył sobą Moab dla synów Izraelskich.
And Moab was greatly afraid of the people, because it was numerous; and Moab was horrified because of the children of Israel.
4 Przetoż rzekł Moab do starszych Madyjańskich: Teraz pożre to mnóstwo wszystko, co jest około nas, jako wół pożera trawę polną. A Balak, syn Seforów, był królem Moabskim na on czas.
And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now will this assemblage devour all that is round about us, as the ox devoureth the grass of the field; and Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.
5 I posłał posły do Balaama, syna Beorowego, do Pethoru miasta, które jest nad rzeką ziemi synów ludu jego, aby go wezwano, mówiąc: Oto lud wyszedł z Egiptu, oto okrył wierzch ziemi, i osadza się przeciwko mnie.
And he sent messengers unto Bil'am the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river, in the land of the children of his people, to have him called; saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; behold, it covereth the surface of the earth, and it is abiding opposite to me:
6 Przetoż teraz przyjdź proszę, a przeklinaj mnie kwoli lud ten, bo możniejszy jest nad mię; owa snać go będę mógł porazić, i wygnać go z ziemi; bo ja wiem, że komu błogosławisz, błogosławiony będzie; a kogo przeklinasz, przeklęty będzie.
And now do but come, curse me this people; for it is too mighty for me; peradventure I may be able to smite it, that I may drive it out of the land; for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
7 Poszli tedy starsi Moabscy, i starsi Madyjańscy, mając zapłatę za wieszczbę w rękach swych.
And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Bil'am, and spoke unto him the words of Balak.
8 A przyszedłszy do Balaama, powiedzieli mu słowa Balakowe. I rzekł do nich: Zostańcie tu przez noc, a dam wam odpowiedź, jako mi oznajmi Pan.
And he said unto them, Remain you here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the Lord may speak unto me; and the princes of Moab abode with Bil'am.
9 I zostały książęta Moabskie z Balaamem. Tedy przyszedł Bóg do Balaama, i rzekł: Cóż to za mężowie u ciebie?
And God came unto Bil'am, and said, Who are these men with thee?
10 I odpowiedział Balaam Bogu: Balak, syn Seforów, król Moabski, posłał do mnie, mówiąc:
And Bil'am said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, the king of Moab, hath sent unto me, [saying, ]
11 Oto lud, który wyszedł z Egiptu, i okrył wierzch ziemi; terazże pójdź, przeklinaj mi go; snać będę mógł walczyć z nim, i wypędzę go.
Behold, there is the people that is come out of Egypt, and covereth the face of the earth: now come, denounce it for me; peradventure I shall be able to fight against it, and drive it away.
12 Tedy rzekł Bóg do Balaama: Nie chodź z nimi, ani przeklinaj ludu tego; bo jest błogosławiony.
And God said unto Bil'am, Thou shalt not go with them: thou shalt not curse the people; for it is blessed.
13 A wstawszy rano Balaam rzekł do książąt Balakowych: Wróćcie się do ziemi waszej; bo mi nie pozwala Pan puścić się w drogę z wami.
And Bil'am rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Go back to your land; for the Lord refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
14 Wstawszy tedy książęta Moabskie, wrócili się do Balaka, i powiedzieli: Nie chciał Balaam iść z nami.
And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Bil'am refuseth to come with us.
15 Tedy po wtóre posłał Balak więcej książąt, i zacniejszych nad pierwsze.
And Balak sent yet again princes, more in number, and more honorable than those.
16 Którzy przyszedłszy do Balaama, mówili mu: Tak mówi Balak, syn Seforów: Nie ociągaj się proszę przyjść do mnie;
And they came to Bil'am, and said to him, Thus hath said Balak the son of Zippor, Do not suffer thyself, I pray thee, to be prevented from coming unto me;
17 Albowiem ci wielką uczciwość wyrządzę, i wszystko, cobyś mi rzekł, uczynię; tylko przyjdź proszę a przeklinaj mi ten lud.
For I will honor thee greatly, and whatsoever thou mayest say unto me will I do: and only come, I pray thee, denounce me this people.
18 Tedy odpowiedział Balaam, i rzekł do sług Balakowych: Choćby mi dał Balak pełen dom swój srebra i złota, nie mógłbym przestąpić słów Pana, Boga mego, i uczynić przeciwko niemu, bądź mało bądź wiele;
And Bil'am answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress the order of the Lord my God, to do a small or a great thing.
19 Ale proszę zostańcie tu i wy przez noc, a dowiem się, co jeszcze Pan będzie mówił ze mną.
And now, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the Lord will farther speak with me.
20 Tedy przyszedł Bóg do Balaama w nocy, i rzekł do niego: Jeźliż, aby cię wezwali, przyszli mężowie ci, wstańże, idź z nimi; a wszakże, coć rozkażę, to uczynisz.
And God came unto Bil'am at night, and said unto him, If to call thee the men have come, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I shall speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.
21 Tedy wstawszy Balaam rano, osiodłał oślicę swoją, i jechał z książęty Moabskimi.
And Bil'am rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
22 I rozpalił się gniew Boży, że on jechał; i stanął Anioł Pański na drodze, aby mu zastąpił; a on jechał na oślicy swojej, i dwoje pacholąt jego z nim.
And the anger of God was kindled, because he went; and an angel of the Lord placed himself in the way to be a hindrance to him; and he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
23 A gdy ujrzała oślica Anioła Pańskiego, stojącego na drodze, a miecz jego dobyty w ręce jego, tedy ustąpiła oślica z drogi a szła na rolę, lecz bił Balaam oślicę, aby ją nawiódł na drogę.
And the ass saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Bil'am smote the ass, to make her turn into the way.
24 Tedy stanął Anioł Pański na ścieżce u winnicy między dwoma płoty.
But the angel of the Lord stepped into a path between the vineyards, [with] a wall on this side, and a wall on that side.
25 A widząc oślica Anioła Pańskiego, przyciskała się do płota, tak iż przyparła nogę Balaamową do ściany; a on znowu ją bił.
And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she forced herself against the wall, and pressed Bil'am's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
26 Potem Anioł Pański szedł dalej, i stanął na miejscu ciasnem, gdzie nie było drogi do ustąpienia na prawo ani na lewo;
And the angel of the Lord went yet farther, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.
27 A widząc oślica Anioła Pańskiego, padła pod Balaamem; i rozgniewał się Balaam wielce, a bił oślicę kijem.
And when the ass saw the angel of the Lord, she lay down under Bil'am: whereupon Bil'am's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a stick.
28 Zatem otworzył Pan usta onej oślicy, i rzekła do Balaama: Cóżem ci uczyniła, żeś mię bił już po trzy kroć?
And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Bil'am, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
29 I rzekł Balaam do oślicy: Iż ze mnie szydzisz; bym był miał miecz w ręku swych, byłbym cię teraz zabił.
And Bil'am said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: had I but a sword in my hand, I would assuredly have now killed thee.
30 Tedy oślica rzekła do Balaama: Azażem ja nie oślica twoja, na którejś jeżdżał, jakoś mię dostał, aż do tego czasu? A on rzekł: Nigdy.
And the ass said unto Bil'am, Am not I thy ass, upon which thou hast ridden from thy commencement unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, No.
31 Wtem otworzył Pan oczy Balaamowe, że obaczył Anioła Pańskiego, stojącego na drodze, i miecz jego dobyty w ręce jego; tedy skłoniwszy się, pokłonił się twarzą swoją.
Then the Lord opened the eyes of Bil'am, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head and prostrated himself on his face.
32 I rzekł do niego Anioł Pański: Przeczżeś bił oślicę swoję już po trzy kroć? Otom Ja wyszedł, abym się tobie sprzeciwił; bo przewrotna jest droga twoja przede mną;
And the angel of the Lord said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thy ass these three times? behold, I went out to be a hindrance; because the journey which is odious to me was too quickly begun.
33 A widząc mię oślica ustąpiła przede mną po trzy kroć, a gdyby była nie ustąpiła przede mną, już bym cię był teraz zabił a onę bym był żywą zostawił.
And the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times; if she had not turned aside from me, I would surely now not only have slain thee, but saved her alive.
34 Zatem rzekł Balaam do Anioła Pańskiego: Zgrzeszyłem, albowiem nie widziałem, żeś ty stanął przeciwko mnie na drodze; przetoż teraz, jeźlić się to nie podoba, wrócę się.
And Bil'am said unto the angel of the Lord, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou wast standing against me in the way; but now, if it be evil in thy eyes, I will return home again.
35 Lecz Anioł Pański rzekł do Balaama: Jedź z ludźmi tymi; wszakże tylko, co Ja tobie powiem, mówić będziesz. I jechał Balaam z książęty Balakowymi.
And the angel of the Lord said unto Bil'am, Go with the men; however, only the word which I will speak unto thee, that shalt thou speak: and Bil'am went with the princes of Balak.
36 A gdy usłyszał Balak, iż przyjeżdża Balaam, wyjechał przeciwko niemu, do niektórego miasta Moabskiego, które jest na granicy Arnonu, które jest przy końcu granicy.
And when Balak heard that Bil'am was come, he went out to meet him unto 'Ir-Moab, which is on the border of Arnon, which is at the outmost end of the boundary.
37 Tedy rzekł Balak do Balaama: Azażem z pilnością nie posyłał do ciebie wzywając cię? Czemużeś nie przyjechał do mnie? azaż cię zacnie uczcić nie mogę?
And Balak said unto Bil'am, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to have thee called? wherefore camest thou not unto me? in truth, am I not able to honor thee?
38 I rzekł Balaam do Balaka: Otom przyjechał do ciebie; izali teraz, choćbym chciał, będę mógł co mówić? słowo, które włoży Bóg w usta moje, mówić będę.
And Bil'am said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee; have I now any power whatever to speak the least? the word that God may put in my mouth, that alone must I speak.
39 Tedy jechał Balaam z Balakiem a przyjechali do miasta Husot.
And Bil'am went with Balak, and they came unto Kiryath-chuzoth.
40 A tak Balak dał nabić wołów i owiec, i posłał do Balaama, i do książąt, którzy z nim byli.
And Balak slew oxen and sheep, and sent to Bil'am and to the princes that were with him.
41 I stało się nazajutrz, że wziął Balak Balaama, i wprowadził go na wyżyny Baalowe, skąd widział i najdalszą część ludu.
And it came to pass in the morning, that Balak took Bil'am, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, and he saw thence a portion of the people.
