1 Tedy odpowiedział Elifas Temańczyk, i rzekł:
Forsothe Eliphat Themanytes answeride, and seide,
2 Jeźli będziemy mówili z tobą, nie będzie ci to przykro? Ale któż się może od mówienia zatrzymać?
If we bigynnen to speke to thee, in hap thou schalt take it heuyli; but who may holde a word conseyued?
3 Otoś ich wiele uczył, i ręceś mdłe potwierdzał.
Lo! thou hast tauyt ful many men, and thou hast strengthid hondis maad feynt.
4 Upadającego wspierały mowy twoje, a kolana zemdlone posilałeś.
Thi wordis confermyden men doutynge, and thou coumfortidist knees tremblynge.
5 A teraz, gdy to na cię przyszło, niecierpliwie znosisz, a iż cię dotknęło, trwożysz sobą.
But now a wounde is comun on thee, and thou hast failid; it touchide thee, and thou art disturblid.
6 Azaż pobożność twoja nie była ufnością twoją, a uprzejmość spraw twoich oczekiwaniem twojem?
Where is thi drede, thi strengthe, and thi pacience, and the perfeccioun of thi weies?
7 Wspomnij proszę, kto kiedy niewinny zginął? albo gdzieby ludzie szczerzy zniszczeli?
Y biseche thee, haue thou mynde, what innocent man perischide euere, ethir whanne riytful men weren doon awei?
8 Jakom widał, że ci, którzy orali złość, i rozsiewali przewrotność, toż też zasię żęli.
Certis rathir Y siy hem, that worchen wickidnesse, and sowen sorewis,
9 Bo tchnieniem Bożem giną, a od ducha gniewu jego niszczeją.
and repen tho, to haue perischid bi God blowynge, and to be wastid bi the spirit of his ire.
10 Ryk lwi, i głos lwicy, i zęby lwiąt wytrącają.
The roryng of a lioun, and the vois of a lionesse, and the teeth of `whelpis of liouns ben al to-brokun.
11 Lew ginie, iż nie ma łupu, i szczenięta lwie rozproszone bywają.
Tigris perischide, for sche hadde not prey; and the whelpis of a lioun ben distried.
12 Nadto doszło mię słowo potajemnie, i pojęło ucho moje cokolwiek z niego.

13 W rozmyślaniu widzenia nocnego, gdy przypada twardy sen na ludzi,
In the hidousnesse of `nyytis siyt, whanne heuy sleep is wont to occupie men,
14 Zdjął mię strach i lękanie, które wszystkie kości moje przestraszyło.
drede and tremblyng helde me; and alle my boonys weren aferd.
15 A duch szedł przed twarzą moją, tak, iż włosy wstały na ciele mojem.
And whanne the spirit `yede in my presence, the heiris of `my fleisch hadden hidousnesse.
16 Stanął, a nie znałem twarzy jego, kształt tylko jakiś był przed oczyma memi; uciszyłem się, i słyszałem głos mówiący:

17 Izali człowiek może być sprawiedliwszy niżeli Bóg; albo mąż czystszy niż Stworzyciel jego?

18 Oto w sługach jego niemasz doskonałości, a w Aniołach swoich znalazł niedostatek;

19 Daleko więcej w tych, co mieszkają w domach glinianych, których grunt jest na prochu, i starci bywają snadniej niżeli mól.

20 Od poranku aż do wieczora bywają starci; a iż tego nie uważają, na wieki zginą.

21 Azaż zacność ich nie pomija z nimi? umierają, ale nie w mądrości.
