Hioba 22
1 A odpowiadając Elifas Temańczyk rzekł:
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and said,
2 Izali Bogu człowiek może być pożytecznym? raczej pożyteczny jest sam sobie, mądrze się sprawując.
Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.
3 Izali się kocha Wszechmogący w tem, że się ty usprawiedliwiasz? albo co za zysk ma, gdy doskonałe pokazujesz drogi twoje?
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that thou are righteous? Or is it gain to him that thou make thy ways perfect?
4 Aza cię będzie karał bojąc się ciebie? albo z tobą pójdzie do sądu?
Is it for thy fear of him that he reproves thee, that he enters with thee into judgment?
5 Azaż złość twoja nie jest wielka, i niemasz końca nieprawościom twoim?
Is not thy wickedness great? Neither is there any end to thine iniquities.
6 Albowiemeś pobierał zastaw od braci twoich bez przyczyny, a z szat odzierałeś nagich.
For thou have taken pledges from thy brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
7 Wodyś spracowanemu nie podał, a głodnemu odmówiłeś chleba.
Thou have not given water to the weary to drink, and thou have withheld bread from the hungry.
8 Ale człowiekowi możnemu dałeś ziemię, a ten, który był w powadze, mieszkał w niej.
But as for the mighty man, he had the land. And the honorable man, he dwelt in it.
9 Wdowy puszczałeś próżne, a sierót ramiona potarłeś.
Thou have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 A przetoż ogarnęły cię sidła, a trwoży cię strach nagły.
Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubles thee,
11 Albo cię ogarnęły ciemności, iż nie widzisz? a wielkości wód okryły cię.
or darkness, so that thou cannot see, and abundance of waters cover thee.
12 Mówisz: Izali Bóg nie jest na wysokości niebios? Spojrzyj proszę na wierzch gwiazd, jako są wysokie.
Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
13 Przetoż mówisz: A cóż wie Bóg? izaż przez chmury sądzić będzie?
And thou say, What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?
14 Obłoki są skrytością jego, iż nie widzi, a po okręgu niebieskim przechadza się.
Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the vault of heaven.
15 Izaż ścieszki wieku przeszłego nie baczysz, którą deptali ludzie złośliwi?
Will thou keep the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16 Którzy są wykorzenieni przed czasem, a powodzią zalały się grunty ich.
Who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,
17 Którzy mawiali Bogu: Odejdź od nas; cóżby im uczynił Wszechmogący?
who said to God, Depart from us, and, What can the Almighty do for us?
18 Gdyż on był napełnił dobrem domy ich; (ale rada niepobożnych daleka jest odemnie.)
Yet he filled their houses with good things. But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 Co widząc sprawiedliwi, weselili się, a niewinny naśmiewał się z nich.
The righteous see it, and are glad. And the innocent laugh them to scorn,
20 Zwłaszcza, iż nie była wycięta majętność nasza, lecz ostatki ich ogień pożarł.
Saying, Surely those who rose up against us are cut off, and the remnant of them, the fire has consumed.
21 Przyuczaj się, proszę, z nim przestawać, a uczyń sobie z nim pokój: boć się tak będzie szczęściło.
Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace. By this good shall come to thee.
22 Przyjmij, proszę, z ust jego zakon, a złóż wyroki jego w sercu twojem.
Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart.
23 Jeźli się nawrócisz do Wszechmocnego, zbudowany będziesz, a oddalisz nieprawość od przybytku twego:
If thou return to the Almighty, thou shall be built up, thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents.
24 Tedy nakładziesz po ziemi wybornego złota; a złota z Ofir, jako kamienia z potoku.
Then thou shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
25 I będzie Wszechmocny wybornem złotem twojem, i srebrem, i siłą twoją.
Yea, the Almighty will be thy treasure, and precious silver to thee.
26 Tedy się w Wszechmocnym rozkochasz, a podniesiesz ku Bogu oblicze twoje.
For then shall thou delight thyself in the Almighty, and shall lift up thy face to God.
27 Będziesz mu się modlił, a wysłucha cię, i śluby twoje oddasz mu.
Thou shall make thy prayer to him, and he will hear thee, and thou shall pay thy vows.
28 Bo cokolwiek postanowisz, będzieć się darzyło, a na drogach twoich rozjaśni się światłość.
Thou shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to thee. And light shall shine upon thy ways.
29 Gdy inni zniżeni będą, ty rzeczesz: Jam jest wywyższon; bo tego, co jest uniżonych oczów, Bóg zbawia.
When they cast thee down, thou shall say, There is lifting up, and he will save the humble man.
30 Wybawi i tego, który nie jest niewinny, i wybawion będzie w czystości rąk twoich.
He will deliver even him who is not innocent. Yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands.
