Kaznodziei 1
1 Słowa kaznodziei, syna Dawidowego, króla w Jeruzalemie.
The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king of Israel in Jerusalem.
2 Marność nad marnościami, powiedział kaznodzieja; marność nad marnościami, i wszystko marność.
Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 Cóż za pożytek ma człowiek ze wszystkiej pracy swej, którą prowadzi pod słońcem?
What advantage [is there] to a man in all his labour that he takes under the sun?
4 Jeden rodzaj przemija, a drugi rodzaj nastaje; lecz ziemia na wieki stoi.
A generation goes, and a generation comes: but the earth stands for ever.
5 Słońce wschodzi i słońce zachodzi, a spieszy się do miejsca swego, kędy wschodzi;
And the sun arises, and the sun goes down and draws toward its place;
6 Idzie na południe, a obraca się na północy; wiatr ustawicznie krążąc idzie, a po okręgach swoich wraca się wiatr.
arising there it proceeds southward, and goes round toward the north. The wind goes round and round, and the wind returns to its circuits.
7 Wszystkie rzeki idą do morza, wszakże morze nie wylewa; do miejsca, z którego rzeki płyną, wracają się, aby zaś stamtąd wychodziły.
All the rivers run into the sea; and yet the sea is not filled: to the place whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 Wszystkie rzeczy są pełne zabaw, a człowiek nie może ich wymówić; oko nie nasyci się widzeniem, a ucho nie napełni się słyszeniem.
All things are full of labour; a man will not be able to speak [of them]: neither shall the eye be satisfied with seeing, neither shall the ear be filled with hearing.
9 Co było, jest to, co być ma; a co się teraz dzieje, jest to, co się dziać będzie, a niemasz nic nowego pod słońcem.
What is that which has been? the very thing which shall be: and what is that which has been done? the very thing which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Jestże jaka rzecz, o którejby kto rzec mógł: Wej! to coś nowego? I toć już było za onych wieków, które były przed nami.
[Who is he] that shall speak and say, Behold, this is new? it has already been in the ages that have passed before us.
11 Niemasz pamiątki pierwszych rzeczy; także też i potomnych, które będą, nie będzie pamiątki u tych, którzy potem nastaną.
There is no memorial to the first things; neither to the things that have been last shall their memorial be with them that shall at the last [time].
12 Ja kaznodzieja byłem królem Izraelskim w Jeruzalemie;
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 I przyłożyłem do tego serce swe, abym szukał, i doszedł mądrością swoją wszystkiego, co się dzieje pod niebem.(Tę zabawę trudną dał Bóg synom ludzkim, aby się nią trapili.)
And I applied my heart to seek out and examine by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven, for God has given to the sons of men an evil trouble to be troubled therewith.
14 Widziałem wszystkie sprawy, które się dzieją pod słońcem, a oto wszystko jest marnością i utrapieniem ducha.
I beheld all the works that were wrought under the sun; and, beheld, all were vanity and waywardness of spirit.
15 Co jest krzywego, nie może być wyprostowane, a niedostatki nie mogą być policzone.
That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and deficiency cannot be numbered.
16 Przetoż takiem myślał w sercu swem, mówiąc: Otom ja uwielbił i rozszerzył mądrość nad wszystkich, którzy byli przedemną w Jeruzalemie, a serce moje dostąpiło wielkiej mądrości i umiejętności.
I spoke in my heart, saying, Behold, I am increased, and have acquired wisdom beyond all who were before me in Jerusalem: also I applied my heart to know wisdom and knowledge.
17 I przyłożyłem do tego serce moje, abym poznał mądrość i umiejętność, szaleństwo i głupstwo; alem doznał, iż to jest utrapieniem ducha.
And my heart knew much—wisdom, and knowledge, parables and understanding: I perceived that this also is waywardness of spirit.
18 Bo gdzie wiele mądrości, tam jest wiele gniewu; a kto przyczynia umiejętności, przyczynia boleści.
For in the abundance of wisdom is abundance of knowledge; and he that increases knowledge will increase sorrow.
