I Tymoteusza 3
1 Wierna jest ta mowa: Jeźli kto biskupstwa żąda, dobrej pracy żąda.
Faithful is the saying, If a man seeketh the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 Ale biskup ma być nienaganiony, mąż jednej żony, czuły, trzeźwy, poważny, gościnny, ku nauczaniu sposobny;
The bishop therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, soberminded, orderly, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Nie pijanica wina, nie bitny, nie sprośnego zysku chciwy, ale słuszność miłujący, nieswarliwy, niełakomy;
no brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;
4 Który by dom swój dobrze rządził, który by dziatki miał w posłuszeństwie ze wszelaką uczciwością;
one that ruleth well his own house, having [his] children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (Bo jeźliby kto nie umiał swego własnego domu rządzić, jakoż pieczę będzie miał o kościele Bożym?)
(but if a man knoweth not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Nie nowotny, aby będąc nadęty, nie wpadł w sąd potwarcy.
not a novice, lest being puffed up he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Musi też mieć świadectwo dobre od obcych, aby nie wpadł w hańbę i w sidło potwarcy.
Moreover he must have good testimony from them that are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Dyjakonowie także mają być poważni, nie dwoistego słowa, nie pijanicy wielu wina, nie chciwi sprośnego zysku,
Deacons in like manner [must be] grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Mający tajemnicę wiary w czystem sumieniu.
holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 A ci też niech będą pierwej doświadczeni, zatem niech służą, jeźli są bez nagany;
And let these also first be proved; then let them serve as deacons, if they be blameless.
11 Żony także niech mają poważne, nie potwarliwe, trzeźwe, wierne we wszystkiem.
Women in like manner [must be] grave, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.
12 Dyjakonowie niech będą mężami jednej żony, którzy by dziatki dobrze rządzili i własne domy.
Let deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling [their] children and their own houses well.
13 Albowiem którzy by dobrze służyli, stopień sobie dobry zjednają i wielkie bezpieczeństwo w wierze, która jest w Chrystusie Jezusie.
For they that have served well as deacons gain to themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 Toć tobie piszę, mając nadzieję, że w rychle przyjdę do ciebie;
These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly;
15 A jeźlibym omieszkał, abyś wiedział, jako się masz w domu Bożym sprawować, który jest kościołem Boga żywego, filarem i utwierdzeniem prawdy.
but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 A zaprawdę wielka jest tajemnica pobożności, że Bóg objawiony jest w ciele, usprawiedliwiony jest w duchu, widziany jest od Aniołów, kazany jest poganom, uwierzono mu na świecie, wzięty jest w górę do chwały.
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness; He who was manifested in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, received up in glory.
