صفنیا 2

1 ای قومی که حیا ندارید، به خود آیید،

Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation without desire [for repentance];

2 پیش از آنکه داوری آغاز گردد و فرصت شما چون کاه بر باد رود، قبل از آنکه خشم خداوند فرو ریزد و روز هولناک غضب او فرا رسد.

Before the decree is brought forth—like the chaff the day passeth away—before yet there be come over you the fierce anger of the Lord, before yet there be come over you the day of the anger of the Lord.

3 ای تمامی فروتنانی که احکام او را بجا می‌آورید، به راستی عمل کنید و در حضور خداوند فروتن شوید تا شاید شما را از خشم خود در آن روز هلاکت مصون بدارد.

Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, who have fulfilled his ordinances; seek righteousness, seek meekness: perhaps ye will be protected on the day of the Lord's anger.

4 شهرهای غزه، اشقلون، اشدود و عقرون، ریشه‌کن و ویران خواهند شد.

For Gazzah shall become forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolate place: Ashdod shall they drive out at the noon of day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

5 وای بر شما ای فلسطینی‌هایی که در ساحل دریا و در سرزمین کنعان زندگی می‌کنید، زیرا شما هم داوری خواهید شد. خداوند شما را به هلاکت خواهد رساند و حتی یک نفر از شما هم باقی نخواهد ماند.

Woe unto the inhabitants of the district by the sea, the nation of the Kerethites! the word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that no inhabitant shall remain.

6 زمینهای ساحلی شما مکانی برای شبانان و آغل گوسفندان خواهد شد.

And the district by the sea shall become places for pens of shepherds, and folds for flocks.

7 بازماندگان قبیلهٔ یهودا، سرزمین شما را اشغال کرده گله‌های خود را در آنجا خواهند چرانید و خود در خانه‌های اشقلون خواهند خوابید؛ زیرا خداوند با مهربانی از قوم خود یاد نموده، خوشبختی آنها را باز خواهد گردانید.

And this district shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; thereupon shall they feed their flocks: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for the Lord their God will think of them, and bring back their captivity.

8 اهانتهای مردم موآب و عَمّون را شنیده‌ام که قوم مرا مسخره نموده، تهدید به اشغال سرزمینشان می‌کنند.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of 'Ammon, wherewith they have reproached my people, and made themselves great against their border.

9 بنابراین، خداوند لشکرهای آسمان، خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید: «به حیات خود قسم، موآب و عمون مثل سدوم و عموره از بین خواهند رفت و به محلی از خارها، گودالهای نمک و ویرانی ابدی تبدیل خواهند شد و بازماندگان قوم من آنها را غارت نموده، سرزمینهایشان را تصرف خواهند کرد.»

Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall become like Sodom, and the children of 'Ammon like Gomorrah, overgrown with nettles, and [filled with] salt-pits, and a desolation to eternity; the residue of my people shall plunder them, and the remnant of my nation shall possess them.

10 آنها سزای غرور خود را دریافت خواهند کرد، زیرا به قوم خداوند لشکرهای آسمان اهانت نموده، ایشان را مسخره کردند.

This shall they have in recompense for their pride; because they have reproached and made themselves great against the people of the Lord of hosts.

11 خداوند بلاهای هولناکی بر سرشان خواهد آورد. او تمامی خدایان جهان را به تباهی خواهد کشانید و آنگاه همهٔ اقوام در سرزمینهای خود او را عبادت خواهند نمود.

Terrible will the Lord [appear] over them; for he will cause to vanish all the gods of the earth; and then shall prostrate themselves before him, every one from its place, all the isles of the nations.

12 خداوند می‌فرماید: «ای حبشی‌ها، شما هم به دم شمشیر من کشته خواهید شد.»

Also ye Ethiopians shall be those slain by my sword.

13 خداوند قدرت خود را بر ضد آشور به کار خواهد برد و پایتخت بزرگ آن، نینوا را ویران نموده، به بیابانی خشک مبدل خواهد کرد.

And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and he will make Nineveh a desolate place, dry, like the wilderness.

14 آن شهر، چراگاه گوسفندان خواهد شد و انواع حیوانات وحشی در آن جای خواهند گرفت. خفاشها و جغدها در میان ویرانه‌هایش لانه می‌کنند و صدایشان از پنجره‌های خانه‌های متروک شنیده می‌شود. در آستانهٔ خانه‌ها زباله جمع می‌شود و روکش زیبای ستونهای شهر که از چوب سرو بود، از بین می‌رود.

And there shall lie down in the midst of her flocks, all the beasts of the nations; both the pelican and the hedgehog shall lodge in the capitals of her columns; singing-birds shall sing in the windows; ruin shall be on the thresholds; for the cedar wainscoting shall be torn away.

15 این شهر مستحکم که چنان در امنیت بود که با خود می‌گفت: «در تمام دنیا شهری مانند من وجود ندارد!» اکنون ویران شده، لانهٔ حیوانات خواهد گردید! هر که از آنجا بگذرد سر خود را از بهت و حیرت تکان خواهد داد.

This is the joyful city that dwelt in security, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none else beside me: how is she become desolate, a resting-place for beasts! every one that passeth by her will hiss, and shake his hand.
