امثال 8

1 آیا ندای حکمت را نمی‌شنوید و به آواز بصیرت گوش نمی‌دهید؟

Doth not wisdom cry aloud, And understanding put forth her voice?

2 حکمت دم دروازه‌های شهر و سر چهارراه‌ها و جلوی در هر خانه‌ای ایستاده، می‌گوید:

Upon the top of the high places, By the wayside, In the cross-ways, She taketh her station.

By the side of the gates, In the entrance of the city, In the approaches to the doors, she crieth aloud.

4 «ای مردم، شما را صدا می‌زنم.

“To you, O men! do I call, And my voice is to the sons of men!

5 ای انسانهای جاهل و نادان به ندای من گوش دهید و زیرکی و فهم کسب کنید.

O ye simple ones! learn wisdom, And ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart!

6 به من گوش دهید، زیرا سخنان من گرانبهاست. من حقیقت و راستی را بیان می‌کنم و از ناراستی نفرت دارم.

Hear, for I speak excellent things, And my lips utter that which is right.

For my mouth speaketh truth, And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 سخنان من بر حق است و کسی را گمراه نمی‌کند.

All the words of my mouth are in uprightness; There is nothing crooked or deceitful in them;

9 سخنان من برای کسی که گوش شنوا داشته باشد واضح و روشن است.

They are all plain to the man of understanding, And right to those who find knowledge.

10 تعلیمی که من می‌دهم از طلا و نقره گرانبهاتر است.

Receive my instruction, and not silver. And knowledge rather than choice gold!

11 ارزش من از یاقوت بیشتر است و هیچ چیز را نمی‌توان با من مقایسه کرد.

For wisdom is better than pearls, And no precious things are to be compared with her.

12 «من حکمتم و از زیرکی و دانایی و بصیرت برخوردار می‌باشم.

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out the knowledge of sagacious counsels.

13 اگر کسی خداترس باشد، از بدی نفرت خواهد داشت. من از غرور و تکبر، رفتار و گفتار نادرست متنفرم.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, And the deceitful mouth, do I hate.

14 «منم که هدایت می‌کنم و فهم و بصیرت می‌بخشم. به نیروی من پادشاهان سلطنت می‌کنند و قضات به عدل و انصاف قضاوت می‌نمایند.

Counsel is mine, and sound reason; I am understanding; I have strength.

By me kings reign, And princes decree justice.

16 تمام رهبران و بزرگان جهان به کمک من حکمرانی می‌کنند.

By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 «من کسانی را که مرا دوست دارند، دوست می‌دارم. آنانی که در جستجوی من باشند مرا خواهند یافت.

I love them that love me, And they who seek me early shall find me.

18 ثروت و حرمت، اموال و موفقیت در اختیار من است.

Riches and honor are with me; Yea, durable riches and prosperity.

19 بخشش‌های من از طلای ناب و نقرهٔ خالص بهتر است.

My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold. And my revenue than choice silver.

20 راههای من عدل و حق است.

I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of equity.

21 ثروت حقیقی از آن کسانی است که مرا دوست دارند، زیرا من خزانه‌های ایشان را پر می‌سازم.

I cause those who love me to possess substance; Yea, I fill their treasuries.

22 «در ابتدا، قبل از آفرینش عالم هستی، خداوند مرا با خود داشت.

“The LORD created me, the firstling of his course, Before his works, of old;

23 از ازل، پیش از به وجود آمدن جهان، من شکل گرفتم.

I was anointed from everlasting, From the beginning, even before the earth was made.

24 قبل از پیدایش اقیانوسها و چشمه‌های پر آب،

When as yet there were no deeps, I was brought forth. When there were no springs, abounding with water.

25 قبل از آنکه کوهها و تپه‌ها به وجود آیند،

Before the mountains were settled, Yea, before the hills, I was brought forth;

26 قبل از آنکه خدا زمین و صحراها و حتی خاک را بیافریند من به وجود آمدم.

Ere yet he had made the land and the wastes, And the first of the clods of the earth.

27 «هنگامی که خدا آسمان را استوار ساخت و افق را بر سطح آبها کشید من آنجا بودم.

When he framed the heavens, I was there; When he drew a circle upon the face of the deep;

28 وقتی ابرها را در آسمان گسترانید و چشمه‌ها را از اعماق جاری نمود،

When he made firm the sky above, And the fountains of the deep rushed forth;

29 وقتی حدود دریاها را تعیین کرد تا آبها از آن تجاوز نکنند و وقتی اساس زمین را بنیاد نهاد،

When he gave to the sea its bounds, that the waters should not pass their border; When he marked out the foundations of the earth, —

30 من نزد او معمار بودم. موجب شادی همیشگی او بودم و در حضورش شادی می‌کردم.

Then was I by him as a master-builder; I was his delight day by day, Exulting before him at all times;

31 دنیا و انسانهایی که او آفریده بود مایهٔ خوشی من بودند.

Exulting in the habitable part of his earth, And my delight was with the sons of men.

32 «پس ای جوانان به من گوش دهید، زیرا همهٔ کسانی که از دستورهای من پیروی می‌کنند سعادتمندند.

“Now, therefore, ye children, hearken to me! For happy are they who keep my ways!

33 به نصیحت من گوش کنید؛ عاقل باشید و نصیحت مرا رد نکنید.

Hear instruction, and be wise! Yea, reject it not!

34 خوشا به حال کسی که به من گوش دهد و هر روز جلوی در خانهٔ من انتظار مرا بکشد،

Happy the man who hearkeneth to me, Who watcheth day by day at my gates, Who waiteth at the posts of my doors;

35 زیرا هر که مرا بیابد حیات را یافته و خداوند را خشنود ساخته است؛

For he that findeth me findeth life, And obtaineth favor from the LORD;

36 اما کسی که مرا از دست بدهد به جانش لطمه می‌زند، آنانی که از من متنفر باشند مرگ را دوست دارند.»

But he who misseth me doeth violence to himself; All they who hate me love death.”
