امثال 4
| ای پسرانم، به نصیحت پدر خود گوش دهید و به آن توجه کنید تا دانا شوید. | 1 |
Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.
| پندهای من مفید است؛ آنها را به خاطر بسپارید. | 2 |
For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.
| من هم زمانی جوان بودم؛ پدری داشتم و تنها فرزند عزیز مادرم بودم. | 3 |
For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.
| پدرم به من پند می‌داد و می‌گفت: «اگر سخنان مرا بشنوی و به آنها عمل کنی، زنده خواهی ماند. | 4 |
So he taught me, and said to me—Let thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!
| حکمت و بصیرت را کسب کن. سخنان مرا فراموش نکن و از آنها منحرف نشو. | 5 |
Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.
| حکمت را ترک نکن، زیرا از تو حمایت خواهد کرد. آن را دوست بدار که از تو محافظت خواهد نمود. | 6 |
Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee, —love her and she will keep thee.
| حکمت از هر چیزی بهتر است؛ به هر قیمتی شده آن را به دست بیاور. | 7 |
The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.
| اگر برای حکمت ارزش قائل شوی، او نیز تو را سربلند خواهد نمود. اگر حکمت را در آغوش بگیری او به تو عزت خواهد بخشید | 8 |
Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her:
| و تاج عزت و افتخار بر سرت خواهد نهاد.» | 9 |
She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.
| پسرم به من گوش کن و آنچه به تو می‌گویم بپذیر تا عمری طولانی داشته باشی. | 10 |
Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.
| من به تو حکمت آموختم و تو را به سوی راستی هدایت نمودم. | 11 |
In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.
| وقتی راه روی مانعی بر سر راهت نخواهد بود و چون بدوی پایت نخواهد لغزید. | 12 |
When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
| آنچه را که آموخته‌ای حفظ کن و آن را از دست نده؛ آن را نگه دار، زیرا حیات توست. | 13 |
Take fast hold of correction, let her not go, —keep her, for, she, is thy life.
| به راه بدکاران نرو و از روش گناهکاران پیروی ننما. | 14 |
Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:
| از آنها دوری کن و روی خود را از آنان بگردان و به راه خود برو؛ | 15 |
Avoid it, do not pass thereon—turn from it, and depart.
| زیرا ایشان تا بدی نکنند نمی‌خوابند و تا باعث لغزش و سقوط کسی نشوند آرام نمی‌گیرند. | 16 |
For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief, —They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,
| خوراک آنها ظلم و شرارت است. | 17 |
For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.
| راه درستکاران مانند سپیدهٔ صبح است که رفته‌رفته روشنتر می‌شود تا سرانجام به روشنایی کامل روز تبدیل می‌گردد، | 18 |
But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn, —going on and brightening, unto meridian day.
| اما راه بدکاران مثل سیاهی شب است. بدکاران می‌افتند و نمی‌دانند چه چیز باعث افتادنشان شده است. | 19 |
The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.
| ای پسرم، به آنچه که به تو می‌گویم به دقت گوش بده. | 20 |
My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;
| سخنان مرا از نظر دور ندار، بلکه آنها را در دل خود حفظ کن، | 21 |
Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;
| زیرا سخنان من به شنونده حیات و سلامتی کامل می‌بخشد. | 22 |
For, life, they are, to them who find them, —and, to every part of one’s flesh, they bring healing.
| مراقب افکارت باش، زیرا زندگی انسان از افکارش شکل می‌گیرد. | 23 |
Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.
| دروغ و ناراستی را از دهان خود دور کن. | 24 |
Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.
| چشمان خود را به هدف بدوز و به اطراف توجه نکن. | 25 |
Let, thine eyes, right onward, look, —and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.
| مواظب راهی که در آن قدم می‌گذاری باش. همیشه در راه راست گام بردار تا در امان باشی. | 26 |
Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:
| از راه راست منحرف نشو و خود را از بدی دور نگه دار. | 27 |
Decline not, to the right hand or to the left, —Turn away thy foot from wickedness.
