امثال 30

1 سخنان آگور پسر یاکه، شامل این پیام است: خدایا، خسته‌ام؛ ای خدا، خسته و درمانده‌ام.

THE WORDS OF AGUR THE SONNE OF JAKEH. The prophecie which ye man spake vnto Ithiel, euen to Ithiel, and Vcal.

2 من نادان‌ترینِ آدمیان هستم و عاری از شعور بشری.

Surely I am more foolish then any man, and haue not the vnderstanding of a man in me.

3 حکمتی در من نیست و شناختی از خدا ندارم.

For I haue not learned wisedome, nor atteined to the knowledge of holy things.

4 آن کیست که آسمان و زمین را زیر پا می‌گذارد؟ آن کیست که باد را در دست خود نگه می‌دارد و آبها را در ردای خود می‌پیچد؟ آن کیست که حدود زمین را برقرار کرده است؟ نامش چیست و پسرش چه نام دارد؟ اگر می‌دانی بگو!

Who hath ascended vp to heauen, and descended? Who hath gathered the winde in his fist? Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the endes of the world? What is his name, and what is his sonnes name, if thou canst tell?

5 سخنان خدا تمام پاک و مبراست. او مانند یک سپر از تمام کسانی که به او پناه می‌برند محافظت می‌کند.

Euery worde of God is pure: he is a shield to those, that trust in him.

6 به سخنان او چیزی اضافه نکن، مبادا تو را توبیخ نماید و تو دروغگو قلمداد شوی.

Put nothing vnto his wordes, least he reproue thee, and thou be found a lyar.

7 ای خدا، قبل از آنکه بمیرم دو چیز از تو می‌طلبم:

Two things haue I required of thee: denie me them not before I die.

8 مرا از دروغ گفتن حفظ کن و مرا نه تهیدست بگردان و نه ثروتمند، بلکه روزی مرا به من بده؛

Remooue farre from me vanitie and lyes: giue me not pouertie, nor riches: feede me with foode conuenient for me,

9 چون اگر ثروتمند شوم ممکن است تو را انکار کنم و بگویم: «خداوند کیست؟» و اگر تهیدست گردم امکان دارد دزدی کنم و نام تو را بی‌حرمت نمایم.

Least I be full, and denie thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or least I be poore and steale, and take the Name of my God in vaine.

10 هرگز از کسی نزد کارفرمایش بدگویی نکن، مبادا به نفرین او گرفتار شوی.

Accuse not a seruant vnto his master, lest he curse thee, when thou hast offended.

11 هستند کسانی که پدر و مادر خود را نفرین می‌کنند.

There is a generation that curseth their father, and doeth not blesse their mother.

12 هستند کسانی که خود را پاک می‌دانند در حالی که به گناه آلوده‌اند.

There is a generation that are pure in their owne conceite, and yet are not washed from their filthinesse.

13 هستند کسانی که از نگاهشان کبر و غرور می‌بارد،

There is a generation, whose eies are hautie, and their eye liddes are lifted vp.

14 هستند کسانی که دندانهای خود را تیز می‌کنند تا به جان مردم فقیر بیفتند و آنها را ببلعند.

There is a generation, whose teeth are as swordes, and their chawes as kniues to eate vp the afflicted out of the earth, and the poore from among men.

15 زالو را دو دختر است که فریاد می‌کشند: «بده! بده!» سه چیز هست که هرگز سیر نمی‌شوند، بلکه چهار چیز، که نمی‌گویند: «بس است!»:

The horse leache hath two daughters which crye, Giue, giue. There be three things that will not be satisfied: yea, foure that say not, It is ynough.

16 دنیای مردگان، رحم نازا، زمین بی‌آب، آتش مشتعل. (Sheol h7585)

The graue, and the barren wombe, the earth that cannot be satisfied with water, and the fire that sayeth not, It is ynough. (Sheol h7585)

17 کسی که پدر خود را مسخره کند و مادرش را تحقیر نماید، کلاغها چشمانش را از کاسه در می‌آورند و لاشخورها بدنش را می‌خورند.

The eye that mocketh his father and despiseth the instruction of his mother, let ye rauens of the valley picke it out, and the yong eagles eate it.

18 سه چیز برای من بسیار عجیبند، بلکه چهار چیز که من آنها را نمی‌فهمم:

There be three thinges hid from me: yea, foure that I knowe not,

19 پرواز عقاب در آسمان، خزیدن مار روی صخره، عبور کشتی از دریا، و راهِ مرد با دختر جوان.

The way of an eagle in the aire, the way of a serpent vpon a stone, ye way of a ship in ye middes of the sea, and the way of a man with a maide.

20 همچنین است راه زن بدکاره که می‌خورَد و دهانش را پاک می‌کند و می‌گوید: «کار بدی نکردم.»

Such is ye way also of an adulterous woman: she eateth and wipeth her mouth, and sayth, I haue not committed iniquitie.

21 سه چیز است که زمین را می‌لرزاند، بلکه چهار چیز که زمین تاب تحملش را ندارد:

For three things the earth is moued: yea, for foure it cannot susteine it selfe:

22 برده‌ای که پادشاه شود، احمقی که سیر و توانگر گردد،

For a seruant when he reigneth, and a foole when he is filled with meate,

23 زن بداخلاقی که شوهر کرده باشد، و کنیزی که جای بانوی خود را بگیرد.

For the hatefull woman, when she is married, and for a handmaid that is heire to her mistres.

24 چهار چیز است بر زمین که بسیار کوچک اما بی‌اندازه دانا هستند:

These be foure small things in the earth, yet they are wise and full of wisedome:

25 مورچه‌ها که ضعیف هستند ولی برای زمستان خوراک ذخیره می‌کنند،

The pismires a people not strong, yet prepare they their meate in sommer:

26 گورکنها که ناتوانند اما در میان صخره‌ها برای خود لانه می‌سازند،

The conies a people not mightie, yet make their houses in the rocke:

27 ملخها که رهبری ندارند ولی در دسته‌های منظم حرکت می‌کنند،

The grashopper hath no King, yet goe they forth all by bandes:

28 و مارمولکها که می‌توان آنها را در دست گرفت، اما حتی به کاخ پادشاهان نیز راه می‌یابند.

The spider taketh holde with her handes, and is in Kings palaces.

29 سه چیز است که راه رفتنشان باوقار است، بلکه چهار چیز که با متانت می‌خرامند:

There be three thinges that order well their going: yea, foure are comely in going,

30 شیر که سلطان حیوانات است و از هیچ چیز نمی‌ترسد،

A lyon which is strong among beastes, and turneth not at the sight of any:

31 طاووس، بز نر، و پادشاهی که سپاهیانش همراه او هستند.

A lusty grayhound, and a goate, and a King against whom there is no rising vp.

32 اگر از روی حماقت مغرور شده‌ای و اگر نقشه‌های پلید در سر پرورانده‌ای، به خود بیا و از این کارت دست بکش.

If thou hast bene foolish in lifting thy selfe vp, and if thou hast thought wickedly, lay thine hand vpon thy mouth.

33 از زدن شیر، کره به دست می‌آید؛ از ضربه زدن به دماغ خون جاری می‌شود؛ و از برانگیختن خشم، نزاع درمی‌گیرد.

When one churneth milke, he bringeth foorth butter: and he that wringeth his nose, causeth blood to come out: so he that forceth wrath, bringeth foorth strife.
