امثال 3

1 پسرم، چیزهایی را که به تو آموخته‌ام هرگز فراموش نکن. اگر می‌خواهی زندگی خوب و طولانی داشته باشی، به دقت از دستورهای من پیروی کن.

My sonne, forget not thou my Lawe, but let thine heart keepe my commandements.

For they shall increase the length of thy dayes and the yeeres of life, and thy prosperitie.

3 محبت و راستی را هرگز فراموش نکن بلکه آنها را بر گردنت بیاویز و بر صفحهٔ دلت بنویس،

Let not mercie and trueth forsake thee: binde them on thy necke, and write them vpon the table of thine heart.

4 اگر چنین کنی هم خدا از تو راضی خواهد بود هم انسان.

So shalt thou finde fauour and good vnderstanding in the sight of God and man.

5 با تمام دل خود به خداوند اعتماد کن و بر عقل خود تکیه منما.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and leane not vnto thine owne wisdome.

6 در هر کاری که انجام می‌دهی خدا را در نظر داشته باش و او در تمام کارهایت تو را موفق خواهد ساخت.

In all thy wayes acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy wayes.

7 به حکمت خود تکیه نکن بلکه از خداوند اطاعت نما و از بدی دوری کن،

Be not wise in thine owne eyes: but feare the Lord, and depart from euill.

8 و این مرهمی برای زخمهایت بوده، به تو سلامتی خواهد بخشید.

So health shalbe vnto thy nauel, and marowe vnto thy bones.

9 از دارایی خود برای خداوند هدیه بیاور، نوبر محصولت را به او تقدیم نما و به این وسیله او را احترام کن.

Honour the Lord with thy riches, and with the first fruites of all thine increase.

10 آنگاه انبارهای تو پر از وفور نعمت خواهد شد و خمره‌هایت از شراب تازه لبریز خواهد گردید.

So shall thy barnes be filled with abundance, and thy presses shall burst with newe wine.

11 پسرم، نسبت به تأدیب خداوند بی‌اعتنا نباش، و هرگاه سرزنشت کند، ناراحت نشو.

My sonne, refuse not the chastening of the Lord, neither be grieued with his correction.

12 زیرا خداوند کسی را تأدیب می‌کند که دوستش می‌دارد. همان‌طور که هر پدری پسر محبوب خود را تنبیه می‌کند تا او را اصلاح نماید، خداوند نیز تو را تأدیب و تنبیه می‌کند.

For the Lord correcteth him, whome he loueth, euen as the father doeth the childe in whom he deliteth.

13 خوشا به حال کسی که حکمت و بصیرت پیدا می‌کند؛

Blessed is the man that findeth wisedome, and the man that getteth vnderstanding.

14 زیرا یافتن آن از یافتن طلا و نقره، نیکوتر است!

For the marchandise thereof is better then the marchandise of siluer, and the gaine thereof is better then golde.

15 ارزش حکمت از جواهرات بیشتر است و آن را نمی‌توان با هیچ گنجی مقایسه کرد.

It is more precious then pearles: and all things that thou canst desire, are not to be compared vnto her.

16 حکمت به انسان زندگی خوب و طولانی، ثروت و احترام می‌بخشد.

Length of dayes is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and glory.

17 حکمت زندگی تو را از خوشی و سلامتی لبریز می‌کند.

Her wayes are wayes of pleasure, and all her pathes prosperitie.

18 خوشا به حال کسی که حکمت را به چنگ آورد، زیرا حکمت مانند درخت حیات است.

She is a tree of life to them that lay holde on her, and blessed is he that retaineth her.

19 خداوند به حکمت خود زمین را بنیاد نهاد و به عقل خویش آسمان را برقرار نمود.

The Lord by wisdome hath layde the foundation of the earth, and hath stablished the heauens through vnderstanding.

20 به علم خود چشمه‌ها را روی زمین جاری ساخت و از آسمان بر زمین باران بارانید.

By his knowledge the depthes are broken vp, and the cloudes droppe downe the dewe.

21 پسرم، حکمت و بصیرت را نگاه دار و هرگز آنها را از نظر خود دور نکن؛

My sonne, let not these things depart from thine eyes, but obserue wisdome, and counsell.

22 زیرا آنها به تو زندگی و عزت خواهند بخشید،

So they shalbe life to thy soule, and grace vnto thy necke.

23 و تو در امنیت خواهی بود و در راهی که می‌روی هرگز نخواهی لغزید؛

Then shalt thou walke safely by thy way: and thy foote shall not stumble.

24 با خیال راحت و بدون ترس خواهی خوابید؛

If thou sleepest, thou shalt not bee afraide, and when thou sleepest, thy sleepe shalbe sweete.

25 از بلایی که به طور ناگهانی بر بدکاران نازل می‌شود، نخواهی ترسید،

Thou shalt not feare for any sudden feare, neither for the destruction of the wicked, when it commeth.

26 زیرا خداوند تو را حفظ کرده، نخواهد گذاشت در دام بلا گرفتار شوی.

For the Lord shall be for thine assurance, and shall preserue thy foote from taking.

27 اگر می‌توانی به داد کسی که محتاج است برسی، کمک خود را از او دریغ مدار.

Withhold not the good from the owners thereof, though there be power in thine hand to doe it.

28 هرگز به همسایه‌ات مگو: «برو فردا بیا»، اگر همان موقع می‌توانی به او کمک کنی.

Say not vnto thy neighbour, Go and come againe, and to morow wil I giue thee, if thou now haue it.

29 علیه همسایه‌ات که با خیال راحت در جوار تو زندگی می‌کند توطئه نکن.

Intend none hurt against thy neighbour, seeing he doeth dwell without feare by thee.

30 با کسی که به تو بدی نکرده است بی‌جهت دعوا نکن.

Striue not with a man causelesse, when he hath done thee no harme.

31 به اشخاص ظالم حسادت نکن و از راه و روش آنها پیروی ننما،

Bee not enuious for the wicked man, neither chuse any of his wayes.

32 زیرا خداوند از اشخاص کجرو نفرت دارد، اما به درستکاران اعتماد می‌کند.

For the frowarde is abomination vnto the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.

33 لعنت خداوند بر بدکاران است، اما برکت و رحمت او شامل حال درستکاران می‌باشد.

The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

34 خداوند مسخره‌کنندگان را مسخره می‌کند، اما به فروتنان فیض می‌بخشد.

With the scornefull he scorneth, but hee giueth grace vnto the humble.

35 دانایان از عزت و احترام برخوردار خواهند گردید، ولی نادانان رسوا خواهند شد.

The wise shall inherite glorie: but fooles dishonour, though they be exalted.
