امثال 28

1 شریران می‌گریزند، در حالی که کسی آنها را تعقیب نمی‌کند! ولی خداشناسان چون شیر، شجاع هستند.

The wicked flee when none pursueth: but the righteous are bolde as a lyon.

2 وقتی مملکتی گرفتار فساد شود، دولتش به آسانی سرنگون می‌گردد، اما رهبران درستکار و عاقل مایهٔ ثبات مملکت هستند.

For the transgression of the land there are many princes thereof: but by a man of vnderstanding and knowledge a realme likewise endureth long.

3 حاکمی که بر فقرا ظلم می‌کند مانند باران تندی است که محصول را از بین می‌برد.

A poore man, if he oppresse the poore, is like a raging raine, that leaueth no foode.

4 بی‌توجهی نسبت به قانون، ستایش بدکاران است ولی اطاعت از آن، مبارزه با بدی می‌باشد.

They that forsake the Law, prayse the wicked: but they that keepe the Law, set themselues against them.

5 عدالت برای بدکاران بی‌معنی است، اما پیروان خداوند اهمیت آن را خوب می‌دانند.

Wicked men vnderstand not iudgemnt: but they that seeke the Lord vnderstand all things.

6 انسان بهتر است فقیر و درستکار باشد تا ثروتمند و کلاهبردار.

Better is the poore that walketh in his vprightnesse, then hee that peruerteth his wayes, though he be riche.

7 پسری که از قوانین اطاعت می‌کند داناست، اما کسی که رفیق عیاشان است مایهٔ ننگ پدرش می‌باشد.

He that keepeth the Law, is a childe of vnderstanding: but hee that feedeth the gluttons, shameth his father.

8 مالی که از راه رباخواری و بهره‌کشی از فقرا حاصل شود عاقبت به دست کسی می‌افتد که بر فقرا رحم می‌کند.

He that increaseth his riches by vsurie and interest, gathereth them for him that will be mercifull vnto the poore.

9 خدا از دعای کسانی که احکام او را اطاعت نمی‌کنند، کراهت دارد.

He that turneth away his eare from hearing the Law, euen his prayer shalbe abominable.

10 هر که دام بر سر راه شخص درستکار بنهد و او را به راه بد بکشاند، عاقبت به دام خود گرفتار خواهد شد، ولی اشخاص نیک پاداش خوبی خواهند یافت.

He that causeth the righteous to go astray by an euill way, shall fall into his owne pit, and the vpright shall inherite good things.

11 ثروتمندان خود را دانا می‌پندارند، اما فقیر خردمند از واقعیت درون آنها باخبر است.

The riche man is wise in his owne conceite: but the poore that hath vnderstanding, can trie him.

12 وقتی نیکان پیروز می‌شوند، همه شادی می‌کنند، اما هنگامی که بدکاران به قدرت می‌رسند، مردم خود را پنهان می‌کنند.

When righteous men reioyce, there is great glory: but when the wicked come vp, the man is tried.

13 هر که گناه خود را بپوشاند، هرگز کامیاب نخواهد شد، اما کسی که آن را اعتراف کند و از آن دست بکشد خدا بر او رحم خواهد کرد.

He that hideth his sinnes, shall not prosper: but he that confesseth, and forsaketh them, shall haue mercy.

14 خوشا به حال کسی که ترس خدا را در دل دارد، زیرا هر که نسبت به خدا سرسخت باشد گرفتار بلا و بدبختی می‌شود.

Blessed is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart, shall fall into euill.

15 مردم بیچاره‌ای که زیر سلطهٔ حاکم ظالمی هستند، مانند کسانی می‌باشند که گرفتار شیر غران یا خرس گرسنه شده باشند.

As a roaring lyon, and an hungry beare, so is a wicked ruler ouer the poore people.

16 سلطان نادان به قوم خود ظلم می‌کند. پادشاهی که از نادرستی و رشوه‌خواری نفرت داشته باشد، سلطنتش طولانی خواهد بود.

A prince destitute of vnderstanding, is also a great oppressour: but hee that hateth couetousnes, shall prolong his dayes.

17 عذاب وجدان یک جنایتکار او را به سوی مجازات خواهد برد، پس تو سعی نکن از او حمایت کنی.

A man that doeth violence against the blood of a person, shall flee vnto the graue, and they shall not stay him.

18 هر که در راه راست ثابت قدم باشد در امان خواهد ماند، اما کسی که به راههای کج برود خواهد افتاد.

He that walketh vprightly, shalbe saued: but he that is froward in his wayes, shall once fall.

19 هر که در زمین خود زراعت کند نان کافی خواهد داشت، اما کسی که وقت خود را به بطالت بگذراند فقر گریبانگیر او خواهد شد.

He that tilleth his land, shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth the idle, shall be filled with pouertie.

20 اشخاص درستکار کامیاب خواهند شد، اما کسانی که برای ثروتمند شدن عجله می‌کنند بی‌سزا نخواهند ماند.

A faythfull man shall abound in blessings, and he that maketh haste to be riche, shall not be innocent.

21 طرفداری، کار درستی نیست؛ اما هستند قضاتی که به خاطر یک لقمه نان، بی‌انصافی می‌کنند.

To haue respect of persons is not good: for that man will transgresse for a piece of bread.

22 آدم خسیس فقط به فکر جمع‌آوری ثروت است غافل از اینکه فقر در انتظار اوست.

A man with a wicked eye hasteth to riches, and knoweth not, that pouertie shall come vpon him.

23 اگر اشتباه کسی را به او گوشزد کنی، در آخر از تو بیشتر قدردانی خواهد کرد تا از کسی که پیش او چاپلوسی کرده است.

He that rebuketh a man, shall finde more fauour at length, then he that flattereth with his tongue.

24 کسی که والدین خود را غارت می‌کند و می‌گوید: «کار بدی نکرده‌ام»، دست کمی از یک آدمکش ندارد.

Hee that robbeth his father and mother, and sayth, It is no transgression, is the companion of a man that destroyeth.

25 حرص و طمع باعث جنگ و جدال می‌شود؛ اما توکل نمودن به خداوند انسان را کامیاب می‌کند.

He that is of a proude heart, stirreth vp strife: but he that trusteth in the Lord, shall be fatte.

26 هر که بر نقشه‌های خود تکیه می‌کند نادان است، ولی آنانی که از تعالیم خدا پیروی می‌نمایند، در امان می‌باشند.

Hee that trusteth in his owne heart, is a foole: but he that walketh in wisdome, shall be deliuered.

27 اگر به فقرا کمک کنی، هرگز محتاج نخواهی شد؛ ولی اگر روی خود را از فقیر برگردانی، مورد لعنت قرار خواهی گرفت.

He that giueth vnto the poore, shall not lacke: but he that hideth his eyes, shall haue many curses.

28 هنگامی که بدکاران به قدرت می‌رسند، مردم خود را پنهان می‌کنند، اما وقتی بدکاران سقوط کنند درستکاران دوباره قدرت را به دست خواهند گرفت.

When the wicked rise vp, men hide them selues: but when they perish, ye righteous increase.
