امثال 19

1 بهتر است انسان فقیر باشد و درستکار تا اینکه بدکار باشد و نادان.

Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and a fool at the same time.

2 داشتن دل و جرأت بدون حکمت بی‌فایده است و عجله باعث اشتباه می‌شود.

Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.

3 انسان با حماقتش زندگی خود را تباه می‌کند و بعد تقصیر را به گردن خداوند می‌اندازد.

The foolishness of man perverteth his way; and his heart fretteth against the LORD.

4 شخص ثروتمند دوستان بسیار پیدا می‌کند، اما وقتی کسی فقیر می‌شود هیچ دوستی برایش باقی نمی‌ماند.

Wealth addeth many friends; but as for the poor, his friend separateth himself from him.

5 شاهد دروغگو بی‌سزا نمی‌ماند و کسی که دائم دروغ می‌بافد جان به در نخواهد برد.

A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall not escape.

6 مردم دوست دارند پیش بزرگان، خود شیرینی کنند و با کسانی دوست شوند که بذل و بخشش می‌کنند.

Many will entreat the favour of the liberal man; and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

7 وقتی انسان فقیر شود حتی برادرانش او را ترک می‌کنند چه رسد به دوستانش، و تلاش او برای بازیافتن آنها به جایی نمی‌رسد.

All the brethren of the poor do hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him! He that pursueth words, they turn against him.

8 هر که در پی حکمت است جانش را دوست دارد و آنکه برای حکمت ارزش قائل شود سعادتمند خواهد شد.

He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul; he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

9 شاهد دروغگو بی‌سزا نمی‌ماند و هر که دائم دروغ می‌بافد هلاک خواهد شد.

A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he that breatheth forth lies shall perish.

10 شایسته نیست که آدم نادان در ناز و نعمت زندگی کند و یا یک برده بر امیران حکومت راند.

Luxury is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 کسی که خشم خود را فرو می‌نشاند عاقل است و آنکه از تقصیرات دیگران چشم‌پوشی می‌کند سرافراز خواهد شد.

It is the discretion of a man to be slow to anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

12 غضب پادشاه مانند غرش شیر است، اما خشنودی او مثل شبنمی است که بر سبزه می‌نشیند.

The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

13 فرزند نادان بلای جان پدرش است و غرغرهای زن بهانه‌گیر مثل قطرات آبی است که دائم در حال چکیدن می‌باشد.

A foolish son is the calamity of his father; and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

14 خانه و ثروت از اجداد به ارث می‌رسد، اما زن عاقل بخشش خداوند است.

House and riches are the inheritance of fathers; but a prudent wife is from the LORD.

15 کسی که تنبل است و زیاد می‌خوابد، گرسنه می‌ماند.

Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and the idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 احکام خدا را نگه دار تا زنده بمانی، زیرا هر که آنها را خوار بشمارد خواهد مرد.

He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; but he that despiseth His ways shall die.

17 وقتی به فقیر کمک می‌کنی مثل این است که به خداوند قرض می‌دهی و خداوند است که قرض تو را پس خواهد داد.

He that is gracious unto the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and his good deed will He repay unto him.

18 فرزند خود را تا دیر نشده تربیت کن؛ اگر غفلت نمایی زندگی او را تباه خواهی کرد.

Chasten thy son, for there is hope; but set not thy heart on his destruction.

19 اگر کسی تندخویی می‌کند بگذار عواقبش را ببیند و مانع او نشو، چون در غیر این صورت او به تندخویی خود ادامه خواهد داد.

A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment; for if thou interpose, thou wilt add thereto.

20 اگر به پند و اندرز گوش دهی تا آخر عمرت از حکمت برخوردار خواهی بود.

Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.

21 انسان نقشه‌های زیادی در سر می‌پروراند، اما نقشه‌هایی که مطابق با خواست خدا باشد اجرا خواهد شد.

There are many devices in a man's heart; but the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.

22 آنچه مهم است محبت و وفاداری است. بهتر است شخص فقیر باشد تا اینکه با نادرستی زندگی کند.

The lust of a man is his shame; and a poor man is better than a liar.

23 خداترسی به انسان حیات می‌بخشد و او را کامیاب گردانده از هر بلایی محفوظ می‌دارد.

The fear of the LORD tendeth to life; and he that hath it shall abide satisfied, he shall not be visited with evil.

24 آدم تنبل دستش را به طرف بشقاب دراز می‌کند، ولی از فرط تنبلی لقمه را به دهان خود نمی‌گذارد.

The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, and will not so much as bring it back to his mouth.

25 مسخره کننده را تنبیه کن تا مایهٔ عبرت جاهلان شود. اشتباهات شخص فهمیده را به او گوشزد نما تا فهمیده‌تر شود.

When thou smitest a scorner, the simple will become prudent; and when one that hath understanding is reproved, he will understand knowledge.

26 پسری که با پدرش بدرفتاری می‌کند و مادرش را از خانه بیرون می‌راند، مایه ننگ و رسوایی است.

A son that dealeth shamefully and reproachfully will despoil his father, and chase away his mother.

27 پسرم، از گوش دادن به تعلیمی که تو را از حکمت دور می‌کند خودداری نما.

Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

28 شاهد پست و فرومایه عدالت را به بازی می‌گیرد و از گناه کردن لذت می‌برد.

An ungodly witness mocketh at right; and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.

29 مسخره‌کنندگان و احمقان، به شدت مجازات خواهند شد.

Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
