امثال 12

1 کسی می‌تواند دانا شود که تأدیب را دوست داشته باشد. هر که از اصلاح شدن نفرت داشته باشد نادان است.

Whoso loveth knowledge loveth correction; but he that is brutish hateth reproof.

2 خداوند از اشخاص نیک خشنود است، اما کسانی را که نقشه‌های پلید می‌کشند محکوم می‌کند.

A good man shall obtain favour of the LORD; but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.

3 انسان با کارهای بد نمی‌تواند برای خود امنیت به وجود آورد، اما اشخاص درستکار پا برجا خواهند ماند.

A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall never be moved.

4 زن نجیب، تاج سر شوهرش است، ولی زن بی‌حیا مانند خوره جان او را می‌خورد.

A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that doeth shamefully is as rottenness in his bones.

5 انسان نیک فکرش پر از درستکاری است، اما فکر آدم بدکار انباشته از دروغ و نیرنگ است.

The thoughts of the righteous are right; but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

6 سخنان بدکاران مردم را به دام هلاکت می‌کشاند، اما سخنان نیکان مردم را رهایی می‌بخشد.

The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 بدکاران نابود می‌شوند، اما نیکان پایدار می‌مانند.

The wicked are overthrown, and are not; but the house of the righteous shall stand.

8 آدم عاقل را همه می‌ستایند، اما شخص کوته‌فکر را حقیر می‌شمارند.

A man shall be commended according to his intelligence; but he that is of a distorted understanding shall be despised.

9 بهتر است انسان شخص مهمی به حساب نیاید اما دستش به دهانش برسد تا اینکه خود را آدم بزرگی نشان دهد ولی محتاج نان باشد.

Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that playeth the man of rank, and lacketh bread.

10 شخص خداشناس حتی به فکر آسایش چارپایان خود نیز هست، اما رحم و مروت خدانشناسان چیزی به‌جز ستمگری نیست.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

11 هر که در زمین خود زراعت کند نان کافی خواهد داشت، اما کسی که وقت خود را به بیهودگی بگذراند آدم احمقی است.

He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.

12 اشخاص خدانشناس چشم طمع به اموالی که بدکاران غارت کرده‌اند دارند، اما اعمال خداشناسان، میوۀ خود را می‌دهد.

The wicked desireth the prey of evil men; but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

13 دروغ انسان را در دام گرفتار می‌کند، ولی شخص درستکار از تنگنا خلاصی می‌یابد.

In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; but the righteous cometh out of trouble.

14 پاداش تو بستگی به گفتار و رفتار تو دارد. هر چه بکاری همان را درو خواهی کرد.

A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 آدم نادان فکر می‌کند هر کاری می‌کند درست است و احتیاج به نصیحت ندارد، اما شخص دانا به نصایح دیگران گوش می‌دهد.

The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.

16 آدم نادان در مقابل توهین دیگران زود خشمگین می‌شود، ولی شخص دانا خونسردی خود را حفظ می‌کند.

A fool's vexation is presently known; but a prudent man concealeth shame.

17 وقتی که حقیقت را می‌گویی عدالت اجرا می‌گردد، اما دروغ به بی‌عدالتی منجر می‌شود.

He that breatheth forth truth uttereth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.

18 هستند کسانی که با سخنان نسنجیدهٔ خود زخم زبان می‌زنند، ولی سخنان مرد دانا تسکین دهنده و شفابخش است.

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.

19 عمر دروغ کوتاه است، اما حقیقت تا ابد پایدار می‌ماند.

The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 افکار توطئه‌گران پر از نیرنگ است، اما دلهای آنانی که خیراندیش هستند آکنده از شادی می‌باشد.

Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

21 هیچ بدی به خداشناسان نمی‌رسد، اما بدکاران همیشه گرفتار بلا می‌شوند.

There shall no mischief befall the righteous; but the wicked are filled with evil.

22 خدا کسانی را که به قول خود وفا می‌کنند دوست دارد، ولی از اشخاص بدقول بیزار است.

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but they that deal truly are His delight.

23 آدم عاقل علم و دانش خود را به نمایش نمی‌گذارد، ولی شخص نادان حماقت خود را آشکار می‌سازد.

A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

24 کار و کوشش، انسان را به قدرت می‌رساند؛ اما تنبلی، او را نوکر دیگران می‌سازد.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute.

25 غم و غصه انسان را گرانبار می‌کند، اما سخن دلگرم کننده او را سبکبار و شاد می‌سازد.

Care in the heart of a man boweth it down; but a good word maketh it glad.

26 شخص درستکار مردم را به راه راست هدایت می‌کند، اما آدم بدکار آنها را منحرف می‌سازد.

The righteous is guided by his friend; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.

27 آدم تنبل حتی دنبال شکار خود نیز نمی‌رود. تلاش و کوشش، گنج گرانبهای انسان است.

The slothful man shall not hunt his prey; but the precious substance of men is to be diligent.

28 راهی که خداشناسان در آن گام برمی‌دارند به حیات منتهی می‌شود و در آن مرگ نیست.

In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
