امثال 1

1 امثال سلیمان، پادشاه اسرائیل، که پسر داوود بود:

The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, King of Israel:

2 این امثال به شما کمک خواهند کرد تا حکمت و ادب بیاموزید و بتوانید سخنان پرمغز را درک کنید.

For the knowledge of wisdom and correction, for discerning the sayings of intelligence;

3 آنها به شما یاد خواهند داد چگونه رفتار عاقلانه داشته باشید و با صداقت و عدالت و انصاف عمل کنید.

For receiving the correction of prudence, righteousness and justice, and equity;

4 این امثال به جاهلان حکمت می‌بخشند و به جوانان فهم و بصیرت.

For giving To the simple shrewdness, To the young man, knowledge and discretion.

5 با شنیدن و درک این امثال، حتی دانایان داناتر می‌شوند و دانشمندان چاره اندیشی کسب می‌کنند تا بتوانند معانی گفتار پیچیدهٔ حکیمان را بفهمند.

A wise man, will hear, and will increase learning, and a, discreet man, wise counsels, will acquire,

By gaining discernment of proverb, and satire, the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 ترس خداوند سرآغاز دانش است. کسی که حکمت و ادب را خوار می‌شمارد، جاهل است.

The reverence of Yahweh, is the beginning of knowledge, Wisdom and correction, the foolish have despised.

8 ای جوان، نصیحت پدرت را بشنو و از تعلیم مادرت رویگردان نشو،

Hear, my son, the correction of thy father, and do not reject the instruction of thy mother;

9 زیرا سخنان ایشان مانند تاج و جواهر، سیرت تو را زیبا خواهند ساخت.

For, a wreath of beauty, shall they be to thy head, and chains of ornament, to thy neck.

10 وقتی گناهکاران تو را وسوسه می‌کنند، تسلیم نشو.

My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.

11 اگر آنها به تو بگویند: «بیا در کمین مردم بنشینیم و آنها را بکشیم

If they say—Come with us, —Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us watch in secret for him who is needlessly innocent;

12 و مانند قبر، آنها را ببلعیم و از هستی ساقط کنیم؛ (Sheol h7585)

Let us engulf them, like hades, alive, While in health, like them who are going down to the pit; (Sheol h7585)

13 از این راه ما اشیاء قیمتی فراوان به چنگ خواهیم آورد و خانه‌های خود را از این غنایم پر خواهیم ساخت؛

All costly substance, shall we find, We shall fill our houses with spoil;

14 هر چه به دست بیاوریم به تساوی بین خود تقسیم خواهیم کرد؛ پس بیا و با ما همدست شو!»

Thy lot, shalt thou cast into our midst, One purse, shall there be, for us all.

15 پسرم تو با آنها نرو و خود را از چنین افرادی دور نگه دار؛

My son, do not walk in the way with them, Withhold thy foot from their path.

16 زیرا آنها همیشه در پی گناه و قتل هستند.

For, their feet, to mischief, do run, and haste to the shedding of blood.

17 یک پرنده وقتی می‌بیند برایش دام گذاشته‌اند، از آن دوری می‌کند.

Surely, in vain, is spread the net, in the sight of aught that hath wings!

18 ولی این افراد چنین نیستند. آنها خودشان را به دام می‌اندازند و با دست خود گور خود را می‌کنند.

Yet, they, for their own blood, lie in wait, They watch in secret for their own life.

19 این است سرنوشت تمام کسانی که در پی سود نامشروع هستند. چنین اشخاص خود را نابود می‌کنند.

Such are the ways of every one that graspeth with greed, The life of the owners thereof, it taketh away!

20 حکمت در کوچه‌ها ندا می‌دهد.

Wisdom, in the open place, soundeth forth, in the broadways, she raiseth her voice;

21 مردم را که در سر چهارراه‌ها و نزد دروازهٔ شهر جمع شده‌اند صدا کرده، می‌گوید:

At the head of bustling streets, she crieth aloud, —at the openings of the gates in the city—her sayings, she doth utter: —

22 «ای نادانان! تا کی می‌خواهید نادان بمانید؟ تا کی می‌خواهید دانایی را مسخره کنید و از آن متنفر باشید؟

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and, scoffers, in scoffing, delight them? and, dullards, hate knowledge?

23 بیایید و مشورت مرا بپذیرید، و من روح خود را بر شما نازل خواهم کرد و شما را دانا خواهم ساخت.

Will ye turn, at my reproof? Lo! I will pour out to you my spirit, I will make known my words to you.

24 «بارها شما را صدا کردم ولی توجه نکردید، التماس نمودم اما اعتنا ننمودید.

Because I called, and ye refused, I stretched out my hand, and no one regarded;

25 شما نصیحت و نکوهش مرا نپذیرفتید.

But ye dismissed all my counsel, and, to my rebuke, would not yield,

26 من نیز به مصیبت شما خواهم خندید، و هنگامی که بلا دامنگیرتان شود شما را مسخره خواهم کرد،

I also, at your calamity, will laugh, I will mock, when cometh your dread;

27 آری، وقتی بلا مانند طوفان شما را فرا گیرد و مصیبت مثل گردباد شما را احاطه کند، و سختی و بدبختی شما را از پای درآورد.

When cometh as a crashing your dread, and, your calamity, as a storm-wind, overtaketh, when there come upon you, distress and anguish.

28 «هنگامی که آنها فریاد برآورند، به دادشان نخواهم رسید، و اگرچه با اشتیاق به دنبالم بگردند، مرا نخواهند یافت؛

Then, will they call me, but I will not answer, they will seek me diligently, but shall not find me.

29 زیرا از دانایی متنفر بوده‌اند و از خداوند اطاعت نکرده‌اند.

Because they hated knowledge, and, the reverence of Yahweh, did not choose;

30 نصیحت مرا گوش نگرفته‌اند و نکوهش مرا نپذیرفته‌اند.

Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke,

31 بنابراین ثمرهٔ راهی را که در پیش گرفته‌اند خواهند دید.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and, with their own counsels, be filled.

32 زیرا سرکشی احمقان، ایشان را خواهد کشت و بی‌خیالی نادانان آنها را از پای در خواهد آورد.

For, the turning away of the simple, will slay them, —and, the carelessness of dullards, will destroy them.

33 ولی همهٔ کسانی که به من گوش دهند، از هیچ بلایی نخواهند ترسید و در امنیت زندگی خواهند کرد.»

Whereas, he that hearkeneth unto me, shall dwell safely, and be at rest, without dread of misfortune.
