1 خداوند به موسی فرمود:

And Yahweh spake unto Moses, saying: —

2 «به بنی‌اسرائیل دستور بده که تمام اشخاص جذامی و همهٔ کسانی را که عضو تناسلی‌شان جریان دائمی دارند و آنانی را که در اثر تماس با جنازه نجس شده‌اند، از اردوگاه بیرون کنند.

Command the sons of Israel, that they send forth out of the camp, every leper, and every one that hath a flux, —and every one that is unclean by the dead:

3 خواه مرد باشند خواه زن، ایشان را بیرون کنند تا اردوگاه شما که من در آن ساکنم نجس نشود.»

whether male or female, ye shall send them forth, unto the outside of the camp, shall ye send them, —that they make not their camps unclean, in the midst whereof, I, have my habitation.

4 قوم اسرائیل طبق دستور خداوند عمل کرده، این اشخاص را بیرون راندند.

And the sons of Israel did so, and sent them forth unto the outside of the camp, —as Yahweh spake unto Moses, so, did the sons of Israel.

5 سپس خداوند به موسی فرمود:

And Yahweh spake unto Moses, saying:

6 «این دستورها را به بنی‌اسرائیل بده: هر کس، چه مرد باشد چه زن، هرگاه به خداوند خیانت کرده، خسارتی به کسی وارد آورد،

Speak unto the sons of Israel: When any man or woman, shall do aught of any human sin, in acting unfaithfully against Yahweh, —and that person shall become aware of his guilt,

7 باید به گناه خود اعتراف نموده، علاوه بر جبران کامل خسارت، یک پنجم خسارت وارده را نیز به شخص خسارت دیده بپردازد.

then shall they confess their sin which they have done, and he shall make good that wherein he is guilty, in the principal thereof, and the fifth part thereof, shall he add thereunto, —and give to him against whom he is guilty,

8 ولی اگر شخصی که خسارت دیده است بمیرد و قوم و خویش نزدیکی نداشته باشد تا به او خسارت پرداخت شود، در آن صورت باید آن را برای خداوند به کاهن بپردازد. درضمن خطاکار باید یک قوچ نیز برای کفاره به کاهن بدهد.

But if one have no kinsman unto whom he may make good that wherein he is guilty, then that wherein he is guilty, which is to be restored to Yahweh, shall be the priest’s, —besides the ram of propitiation, wherewith a propitiatory-covering is to be put over him.

9 تمام هدایای مقدّس که بنی‌اسرائیل برای کاهن می‌آورند، مال کاهن خواهد بود.

And every heave-offering, of all the hallowed things of the sons of Israel which they bring near to the priest, unto him, shall it belong.

10 هر کاهنی می‌تواند تمام هدایای مقدّس را که می‌گیرد، برای خود نگه دارد.»

And, every man’s hallowed things, shall be, his own, —what any man giveth to the priest, shall be his.

11 و خداوند به موسی فرمود:

And Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:

12 «این دستورها را به بنی‌اسرائیل بده: اگر زنِ کسی از او برگشته، به وی خیانت ورزد،

Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou shalt say unto them, —When any man’s wife, shall turn aside, and commit against him an act of unfaithfulness;

13 و با مردی دیگر همبستر شود، ولی شوهرش یا کسی دیگر از این ماجرا آگاه نشود، آن زن خود را نجس ساخته، هرچند که شاهدی نبوده و او در حین عمل گرفتار نشده باشد.

and a man shall lie with her carnally, and it shall be concealed from the eyes of her husband and be kept close but, she, hath committed uncleanness, —though witness, there is none against her, and she, hath not been caught;

14 اگر شوهرش غیرتی شده، به زنش شک کند و بخواهد بداند زنش خود را نجس ساخته یا نه،

but there shall pass over him a spirit of jealousy, and he shall become jealous of his wife, she having committed uncleanness, —or there shall pass over him a spirit of jealousy, and he shall become jealous of his wife, she not, having committed uncleanness,

15 او باید برای روشن شدن حقیقت، زن خود را پیش کاهن بیاورد. در ضمن آن مرد باید یک کیلو آرد جو هم با خود بیاورد، ولی آن را با روغن یا کندر مخلوط نکند، چون این هدیهٔ بدگمانی است و برای تشخیص گناه تقدیم می‌شود.

then shall the man bring in his wife unto the priest, and shall bring in her offering for her, the tenth of an ephah of the meal of barley, —he shall not pour thereon oil, nor put thereon frankincense, for a jealousy gift, it is, a reminding gift bringing to mind iniquity.

16 «کاهن، آن زن را به حضور خداوند بیاورد،

Then shall the priest bring her near, —and cause her to stand before Yahweh;

17 و قدری آب مقدّس در کوزه‌ای سفالین بریزد و مقداری از غبار کف خیمۀ عبادت را با آن مخلوط کند.

and the priest shall take hallowed water in an earthen vessel, —and of the dust which shall be upon the floor of the habitation, shall the priest take, and put into the water;

18 سپس زن را در حضور خداوند بر پا داشته، موی بافتهٔ سر او را باز کند و هدیهٔ بدگمانی را در دستهایش بگذارد تا معلوم شود که آیا بدگمانی شوهرش بجاست یا نه. کاهن در حالی که کوزهٔ آب تلخ لعنت را در دست دارد جلوی زن بایستد.

and the priest shall cause the woman to stand before Yahweh, and shall bare the head of the woman, and shall place upon her hands the reminding gift, it being a jealousy gift, —and in the hand of the priest, shall be the deadly water that bringeth a curse;

19 آنگاه از آن زن بخواهد قسم بخورد که بی‌گناه است و به او بگوید:”اگر غیر از شوهرت مرد دیگری با تو همبستر نشده است، و اگر در مدتی که زیر اقتدار شوهرت بوده‌ای، از شوهرت برنگشته‌ای و خود را نجس نساخته‌ای، از اثرات این آب تلخ لعنت مبرا باش.

and the priest shall put her on oath and shall say unto the woman: —If no man hath lain with thee, and if thou hast not turned aside in uncleanness, [unto another] instead of thy husband, be thou clear from this deadly water that causeth a curse.

20 ولی اگر از او برگشته و به او خیانت کرده‌ای و با همبستر شدن با مردی دیگر خود را نجس ساخته‌ای…“

But, if, thou, hast turned aside, [to another] instead of thy husband and if thou hast made thyself unclean, —in that a man hath known thee carnally, other than thy husband,

21 «در اینجا کاهن زن را وادارد تا سوگندِ لعنت بخورد و به زن بگوید:”لعنت خداوند در میان قومت گریبانگیر تو شود و او رَحِمت را بخشکاند و شکمت را متورم سازد.

then shall the priest put the woman on oath with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, Yahweh give thee up for a curse and for an oath in the midst of thy people, —in that Yahweh shall give up thy thigh to fall away, and thy womb to swell:

22 و این آبِ لعنت به بدن تو داخل شده شکمت را متورم سازد و رَحِمت را بخشکاند.“و زن باید بگوید:”آری، اینچنین شود.“

so shall this water that causeth a curse enter into thy body, causing womb to swell and thigh to fall away. And the woman shall say, Amen, Amen.

23 بعد کاهن این لعنتها را در یک طومار بنویسد و آنها را در آب تلخ بشوید.

Then shall the priest write these curses in a scroll, —and wipe them out into the deadly water;

24 سپس آن آب تلخ را به زن بدهد تا بنوشد.

and shall cause the woman to drink the deadly water that causeth a curse, —and the deadly water that causeth a curse shall enter into her.

25 «سپس کاهن هدیهٔ بدگمانی را از دست زن بگیرد و آن را در حضور خداوند تکان داده، روی مذبح بگذارد.

Then shall the priest take from the hand of the woman the jealousy meal-offering, —and shall wave the meal-offering before Yahweh, and bring it near unto the altar;

26 مشتی از آن را به عنوان نمونه روی آتش مذبح بسوزاند و بعد، از زن بخواهد آب را بنوشد.

and the priest shall take a handful from the meal-offering, a remembrancer thereof, and make a perfume at the altar, —and afterwards, shall cause the woman to drink the water.

27 اگر او به شوهرش خیانت کرده باشد آب بر او اثر می‌کند و شکمش متورم شده، نازا می‌گردد و در میان قوم اسرائیل مورد لعنت قرار می‌گیرد

And as soon as he causeth her to drink, the water, then shall it be, that, if she have fallen into uncleanness and committed unfaithfulness against her husband, as soon as the deadly water that causeth a curse hath entered into her, so soon shall her womb swell and her thigh fall away, —thus shall the woman become a curse in the midst of her people.

28 ولی اگر او پاک بوده و زنا نکرده باشد، به او آسیبی نمی‌رسد و می‌تواند حامله شود.

But, if the woman have not fallen into uncleanness, but is pure, then shall she be clear and shall bear seed.

29 «این است قانون بدگمانی در مورد زنی که شوهرش نسبت به وی بدگمان شده باشد.

This, is the law of jealousies, —when a wife shall turn aside [to another] instead of her husband, and fall into uncleanness;

30 همان‌طور که گفته شد در چنین موردی شوهر باید زن خود را به حضور خداوند بیاورد تا کاهن طی مراسمی قضیه را روشن سازد که آیا زن به شوهرش خیانت کرده یا نه.

or when there passeth over, a husband, a spirit of jealousy, and he becometh jealous of his wife, then shall he cause the woman to stand before Yahweh, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law:

31 اگر زن مقصر شناخته شود، تاوان گناهش را پس خواهد داد، اما شوهرش در این مورد بی‌تقصیر خواهد بود، زیرا خود زن مسئول گناهش است.»

thus shall the man be clear of iniquity; but that woman, shall bear her iniquity.
