| چهار ماه بعد، یک روز وقتی جام شراب را به دست اردشیر پادشاه می‌دادم، از من پرسید: «چرا اینقدر غمگینی؟ به نظر نمی‌رسد بیمار باشی، پس حتماً فکری تو را ناراحت کرده است.» (تا آن روز پادشاه هرگز مرا غمگین ندیده بود.) از این سؤال او بسیار ترسیدم، | 1 |

and to say to/for me [the] king why? face your bad: harmful and you(m. s.) nothing you be weak: ill nothing this for if: except evil heart and to fear to multiply much
| ولی در جواب گفتم: «پادشاه تا به ابد زنده بماند! وقتی شهری که اجدادم در آن دفن شده‌اند، ویران شده و تمام دروازه‌هایش سوخته، من چطور می‌توانم غمگین نباشم؟» | 3 |
and to say to/for king [the] king to/for forever: enduring to live why? not be evil face my which [the] city place grave father my desolate and gate her to eat in/on/with fire
| پادشاه پرسید: «درخواستت چیست؟» آنگاه به خدای آسمانها دعا کردم | 4 |
and to say to/for me [the] king upon what? this you(m. s.) to seek and to pray to(wards) God [the] heaven
| و بعد جواب دادم: «اگر پادشاه راضی باشند و اگر نظر لطف به من داشته باشند، مرا به سرزمین یهودا بفرستند تا شهر اجدادم را بازسازی کنم.» | 5 |
and to say to/for king if upon [the] king pleasant and if be good servant/slave your to/for face: before your which to send: depart me to(wards) Judah to(wards) city grave father my and to build her
| پادشاه در حالی که ملکه در کنار او نشسته بود، با رفتنم موافقت کرده، پرسید: «سفرت چقدر طول خواهد کشید و کی مراجعت خواهی کرد؟» من نیز زمانی برای بازگشت خود تعیین کردم. | 6 |
and to say to/for me [the] king and [the] queen to dwell beside him till how to be journey your and how to return: return and be good to/for face of [the] king and to send: depart me and to give: give [emph?] to/for him time
| سپس به پادشاه گفتم: «اگر پادشاه صلاح بدانند، برای حاکمان منطقهٔ غرب رود فرات نامه بنویسند و سفارش مرا به ایشان بکنند تا اجازه بدهند از آن منطقه عبور کنم و به سرزمین یهودا برسم. | 7 |

| یک نامه هم برای آساف، مسئول جنگلهای سلطنتی بنویسند و به او دستور بدهند تا برای بازسازی دروازه‌های قلعهٔ کنار خانهٔ خدا و حصار اورشلیم و خانهٔ خودم، به من چوب بدهد.» پادشاه تمام درخواستهای مرا قبول کرد، زیرا دست مهربان خدایم بر سر من بود. | 8 |

| وقتی به غرب رود فرات رسیدم، نامه‌های پادشاه را به حاکمان آنجا دادم. (این را هم باید اضافه کنم که پادشاه برای حفظ جانم، چند سردار سپاه و عده‌ای سواره نظام همراه من فرستاده بود.) | 9 |
and to come (in): come to(wards) governor side: beside [the] River and to give: give [emph?] to/for them [obj] letter [the] king and to send: depart with me [the] king ruler strength: soldiers and horseman
| ولی وقتی سنبلط (از اهالی حورون) و طوبیا (یکی از مأموران عمونی) شنیدند که من آمده‌ام، بسیار ناراحت شدند، چون دیدند کسی پیدا شده که می‌خواهد به قوم اسرائیل کمک کند. | 10 |
and to hear: hear Sanballat [the] Horonite and Tobiah [the] servant/slave [the] Ammon and be evil to/for them distress: evil great: large which to come (in): come man to/for to seek welfare to/for son: descendant/people Israel
| من به اورشلیم رفتم و تا سه روز در مورد نقشه‌هایی که خدا دربارهٔ اورشلیم در دلم گذاشته بود، با کسی سخن نگفتم. سپس یک شب، چند نفر را با خود برداشتم و از شهر خارج شدم. من سوار الاغ بودم و دیگران پیاده می‌آمدند. | 11 |
and to come (in): come to(wards) Jerusalem and to be there day three

| از دروازهٔ دره خارج شدم و به طرف چشمهٔ اژدها و از آنجا تا دروازهٔ خاکروبه رفتم و حصار خراب شدهٔ اورشلیم و دروازه‌های سوخته شدهٔ آن را از نزدیک دیدم. | 13 |
and to come out: come [emph?] in/on/with gate [the] Valley (Gate) night and to(wards) face: before Fountain of Dragon and to(wards) gate [the] Dung (Gate) and to be to inspect in/on/with wall Jerusalem which (they(masc.) to break through *Q(K)*) and gate her to eat in/on/with fire
| سپس به دروازهٔ چشمه و استخر پادشاه رسیدم، ولی الاغ من نتوانست از میان خرابه‌ها رد شود. | 14 |
and to pass to(wards) gate [the] Fountain (Gate) and to(wards) (Shelah) Pool [the] King's and nothing place to/for animal to/for to pass underneath: under me
| پس به طرف دره قدرون رفتم و از کنار دره، حصار شهر را بازرسی کردم. سپس از راهی که آمده بودم بازگشتم و از دروازهٔ درّه داخل شهر شدم. | 15 |
and to be to ascend: rise in/on/with torrent: valley night and to be to inspect in/on/with wall and to return: return and to come (in): come in/on/with gate [the] Valley (Gate) and to return: return
| مقامات شهر نفهمیدند که من به کجا و برای چه منظوری بیرون رفته بودم، چون تا آن موقع دربارهٔ نقشه‌هایم به کسی چیزی نگفته بودم. یهودیان اعم از کاهنان، رهبران، بزرگان و حتی کسانی که باید در این کار شرکت کنند از نقشه‌هایم بی‌اطلاع بودند. | 16 |
and [the] ruler not to know where? to go: went and what? I to make: do and to/for Jew and to/for priest and to/for noble and to/for ruler and to/for remainder to make: do [the] work till so not to tell
| آنگاه به ایشان گفتم: «شما خوب می‌دانید که چه بلایی به سر شهر ما آمده است، شهر ویران شده و دروازه‌هایش سوخته است. بیایید حصار را دوباره بسازیم و خود را از این رسوایی آزاد کنیم!» | 17 |
and to say to(wards) them you(m. p.) to see: see [the] distress: harm which we in/on/with her which Jerusalem desolate and gate her to kindle in/on/with fire to go: come! and to build [obj] wall Jerusalem and not to be still reproach
| سپس به ایشان گفتم که چه گفتگویی با پادشاه داشته‌ام و چگونه دست خدا در این کار بوده و مرا یاری نموده است. ایشان جواب دادند: «پس دست به کار بشویم و حصار را بسازیم!» و به این ترتیب آمادهٔ این کار خیر شدند. | 18 |
and to tell to/for them [obj] hand: power God my which he/she/it pleasant upon me and also word [the] king which to say to/for me and to say to arise: rise and to build and to strengthen: strengthen hand their to/for welfare
| ولی وقتی سنبلط، طوبیا و جشم عرب از نقشهٔ ما باخبر شدند، ما را مسخره و اهانت کردند و گفتند: «چه می‌کنید؟ آیا خیال دارید به ضد پادشاه شورش کنید؟» | 19 |
and to hear: hear Sanballat [the] Horonite and Tobiah [the] servant/slave [the] Ammon and Geshem [the] Arabian and to mock to/for us and to despise upon us and to say what? [the] word: thing [the] this which you(m. p.) to make: do upon [the] king you(m. p.) to rebel
| جواب دادم: «خدای آسمانها، ما را که خدمتگزاران او هستیم یاری خواهد کرد تا این حصار را دوباره بسازیم. ولی شما حق ندارید در امور شهر اورشلیم دخالت کنید، زیرا این شهر هرگز به شما تعلق نداشته است.» | 20 |
and to return: reply [obj] them word and to say to/for them God [the] heaven he/she/it to prosper to/for us and we servant/slave his to arise: rise and to build and to/for you nothing portion and righteousness and memorial in/on/with Jerusalem
