ناحوم 1

1 خداوند این رؤیا را که دربارهٔ نینوا است به ناحوم القوشی نشان داد:

The birthun of Nynyue; the book of visioun of Naum Helcesei.

2 یهوه خدایی غیور است و از کسانی که با وی مخالفت ورزند، انتقام می‌گیرد و با خشم شدید آنان را مجازات می‌کند.

The Lord is a punyschere, and the Lord is vengynge; the Lord is venginge, and hauynge strong veniaunce; the Lord is vengynge ayens hise aduersaries, and he is wraththing to hise enemyes.

3 خداوند دیر خشمگین می‌شود ولی گناه را هرگز بی‌سزا نمی‌گذارد. قدرت او عظیم است و آن را می‌توان در گردبادهای وحشتناک و طوفانهای شدید مشاهده کرد. ابرها خاک زیر پای او هستند!

The Lord is pacient, and greet in strengthe, and he clensynge schal not make innocent. The Lord cometh in tempest, and the weies of hym ben in whirlwynd, and cloudis ben the dust of hise feet;

4 به فرمان خداوند دریاها و رودها خشک می‌شوند، چراگاههای سبز و خرم باشان و کرمل از بین می‌روند و جنگلهای سرسبز لبنان طراوت و خرمی خود را از دست می‌دهند.

he blameth the see, and drieth it, and bryngith alle flodis to desert. Basan is maad sijk, and Carmel, and the flour of Liban langwischide.

5 در حضور او کوهها می‌لرزند، تپه‌ها گداخته می‌شوند، زمین متلاشی می‌گردد و ساکنانش نابود می‌شوند.

Mounteyns ben mouyd togidere of hym, and litil hillis ben desolat. And erthe tremblide togidere fro the face of him, and the roundenesse of erthe, and alle dwellynge ther ynne.

6 کیست که بتواند در برابر خشم خدا ایستادگی کند؟ غضب او مانند آتش فرو می‌ریزد و کوهها در برابر خشم او خرد می‌شوند.

Who schal stonde bifore the face of his indignacioun? and who schal ayenstonde in the wraththe of his stronge veniaunce? His indignacioun is sched out as fier, and stoonys ben brokun of hym.

7 خداوند نیکوست و در روز بلا و سختی پناهگاه می‌باشد. او از کسانی که به او توکل می‌کنند مراقبت می‌نماید،

The Lord is good, and coumfortynge in the dai of tribulacioun, and knowynge hem that hopen in hym.

8 ولی دشمنان خود را با سیلابی شدید از بین می‌برد و آنها را به ظلمت مرگ روانه می‌کند.

And in greet flood passynge forth, he schal make ende of his place; and derknessis schulen pursue hise enemyes.

9 ای نینوا، چرا به فکر مخالفت با خداوند هستی؟ او با یک ضربه تو را از پای در خواهد آورد، به طوری که دیگر نخواهی توانست مقاومت کنی.

What thenken ye ayens the Lord? He schal make ende; double tribulacioun schal not rise togidere.

10 دشمنانش را همچون خارهای به هم پیچیده و مانند کسانی که از مستی تلوتلو می‌خورند به داخل آتش می‌اندازد و آنها همچون کاه در شعله‌های آتش سوخته شده دود می‌شوند.

For as thornes byclippen hem togidere, so the feeste of hem drynkynge togidere schal be wastyd, as stobul ful of drienesse.

11 این پادشاه تو کیست که جرأت می‌کند بر ضد خداوند توطئه کند؟

Of thee schal go out a man thenkynge malice ayens the Lord, and trete trespassyng in soule.

12 خداوند می‌فرماید: «سپاه آشور هر قدر هم قوی و بزرگ باشد، محو و نابود خواهد شد. «ای قوم من، به اندازۀ کافی شما را تنبیه کرده‌ام، اما بار دیگر تنبیه‌تان نخواهم کرد.

The Lord seith these thingis, If thei schulen be parfit, and so manye, and thus thei shulen be clippid, and it schal passe bi. I turmentide thee, and Y schal no more turmente thee.

13 اینک زنجیرهای شما را پاره می‌کنم و شما را از قید اسارت پادشاه آشور آزاد می‌سازم.»

And now Y schal al to-breke the yerde of hym fro thi bak, and Y schal breke thi bondis.

14 خداوند به پادشاه آشور می‌فرماید: «نسل تو را از بین می‌برم تا نام و نشانی از تو باقی نماند. بتها و بتخانه‌های تو را نابود خواهم کرد و قبرت را خواهم کند، زیرا تو نفرت‌انگیزی.»

And the Lord schal comaunde on thee, it schal no more be sowun of thi name. Of the hous of thi god Y schal sle; Y schal putte thi sepulcre a `grauun ymage, and wellid togidere, for thou art vnworschipid.

15 ببینید، قاصدی از کوهها سرازیر شده، خبر خوش پیروزی را ندا می‌دهد. ای یهودا، عیدهای خود را برگزار نما و نذرهای خود را به خدا وفا کن، چون دشمن، دیگر هرگز برنمی‌گردد. او برای همیشه ریشه‌کن شده است!

Lo! on hillis the feet of the euangelisynge and tellynge pees. Juda, halewe thou thi feeste daies, and yelde thi vowis, for whi Belial schal no more put to, that he passe forth in thee; al Belial perischide.
