متی 23

1 آنگاه عیسی خطاب به مردم و شاگردانش فرمود:

Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples,

2 «علمای دین و فریسیان مُفَسران شریعت موسی هستند.

saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have set themselves down in Moses' seat:

3 پس آنچه به شما تعلیم می‌دهند، به‌جا آورید، اما هیچگاه از اعمالشان سرمشق نگیرید، زیرا هرگز به تعالیمی که می‌دهند، خودشان عمل نمی‌کنند.

all things therefore, whatever they may tell you, do and keep. But do not after their works, for they say and do not,

4 ایشان تکالیف دینی بسیار سنگینی بر دوش مردم می‌گذارند، اما هرگز حاضر نیستند حتی انگشتی برای کمک به ایشان تکان دهند.

but bind burdens heavy and hard to bear, and lay them on the shoulders of men, but will not move them with their finger.

5 «هر کاری می‌کنند، برای تظاهر است. دعاها و آیه‌های کتب مقدّس را می‌نویسند و به بازویشان می‌بندند، و دامن رداهایشان را بلندتر می‌دوزند تا جلب توجه کنند و مردم آنان را دیندار بدانند.

And all their works they do to be seen of men: for they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders [of their garments],

6 چقدر دوست دارند که در ضیافتها بر صدر مجلس بنشینند، و در کنیسه‌ها بهترین جا را داشته باشند،

and love the chief place in feasts and the first seats in the synagogues,

7 و به هنگام عبور از کوچه و بازار مردم به ایشان تعظیم کنند و آنان را”استاد“خطاب کنند.

and salutations in the market-places, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

8 اما شما چنین القابی را از مردم نپذیرید، چون شما یک استاد دارید و همهٔ شما با هم برابر و برادرید.

But ye, be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor, and all ye are brethren.

9 همچنین، هیچ‌کس را بر روی زمین”پدر“نگویید، چون شما یک”پدر آسمانی“دارید که خداست.

And call not [any one] your father upon the earth; for one is your Father, he who is in the heavens.

10 و نگذارید کسی شما را”استاد“بخواند، چون یک استاد دارید که مسیح است.

Neither be called instructors, for one is your instructor, the Christ.

11 «هر چه بیشتر به دیگران خدمت کنید، بزرگتر خواهید بود، زیرا بزرگی در خدمت کردن است.

But the greatest of you shall be your servant.

12 زیرا هر که بکوشد خود را بزرگ جلوه دهد، خوار خواهد شد، اما کسی که خود را فروتن سازد، سربلند خواهد گردید.

And whoever shall exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever shall humble himself shall be exalted.

13 «وای به حال شما، ای علمای دین و فریسیان! چقدر ریاکارید! نه می‌گذارید دیگران به ملکوت آسمان وارد شوند و نه خود وارد می‌شوید.

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for ye do not enter, nor do ye suffer those that are entering to go in.

14 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان ریاکار! شما وقتی دعاهای طولانی می‌کنید و تظاهر به دینداری می‌نمایید، تمام هوش و حواستان به این است که چگونه اموال بیوه‌زنان را تصاحب کنید. از این رو مجازات شما بسیار شدید خواهد بود.

15 وای به حال شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان! شما همه جا را زیر پا می‌گذارید تا کسی را پیدا کنید که مرید شما شود؛ و وقتی موفق شدید، او را دو برابر بدتر از خودتان سزاوار جهنم می‌سازید. (Geenna g1067)

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye compass the sea and the dry [land] to make one proselyte, and when he is become [such], ye make him twofold more [the] son of hell than yourselves. (Geenna g1067)

16 «وای به حال شما ای عصاکش‌های کور! زیرا می‌گویید:”اشکالی ندارد کسی به معبد قسم بخورد چون می‌تواند قسمش را بشکند؛ ولی کسی که به ظرفهای طلایی که در معبد هست، قسم بخورد باید آن را حتماً وفا کند.“

Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor.

17 ای نادانان! ای نابینایان! کدام مهمتر است، طلا یا معبد که طلا را تقدیس می‌کند؟

Fools and blind, for which is greater, the gold, or the temple which sanctifies the gold?

18 «همچنین می‌گویید:”قسم به مذبح را می‌شود شکست، ولی قسم به هدیهٔ روی مذبح را باید حتماً وفا کرد.“

And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gift that is upon it is a debtor.

19 ای احمقهای کور! کدام مهمتر است هدیه‌ای که روی مذبح است یا خود مذبح که هدیه را تقدیس می‌کند؟

[Fools and] blind ones, for which is greater, the gift, or the altar which sanctifies the gift?

20 وقتی به مذبح قسم می‌خورید، در واقع به خود مذبح و هر چه که بر آن است قسم یاد می‌کنید؛

He therefore that swears by the altar swears by it and by all things that are upon it.

21 و وقتی به معبد قسم می‌خورید، در واقع به خود خانه و به خدایی که در آن خانه هست قسم یاد می‌کنید؛

And he that swears by the temple swears by it and by him that dwells in it.

22 و وقتی به آسمان قسم می‌خورید، در واقع به تخت خدا و خود خدا که بر تخت نشسته است قسم می‌خورید.

And he that swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him that sits upon it.

23 «وای به حال شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان ریاکار! شما حتی ده‌یک محصول نعناع و شِوید و زیره باغچه‌تان را هدیه می‌دهید، اما احکام مهمتر شریعت را که عدالت و رحمت و امانت است، نادیده می‌گیرید. شما باید ده‌یک را بدهید، ولی احکام مهمتر را نیز فراموش نکنید.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye pay tithes of mint and anise and cummin, and ye have left aside the weightier matters of the law, judgment and mercy and faith: these ye ought to have done and not have left those aside.

24 ای عصاکش‌های کور، که پشه را از صافی می‌گذرانید ولی شتر را می‌بلعید!

Blind guides, who strain out the gnat, but drink down the camel.

25 «وای به حال شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان ریاکار! چون شما بیرون کاسه و بشقاب را آنقدر تمیز می‌کنید تا بدرخشد، ولی درون آنها از طمع و ناپرهیزی پر است.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the dish, but within they are full of rapine and intemperance.

26 ای فریسی‌های کور، اول درون کاسه و بشقاب را تمیز کنید که بیرونشان هم پاک خواهد شد.

Blind Pharisee, make clean first the inside of the cup and of the dish, that their outside also may become clean.

27 «وای به حال شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان ریاکار! شما مانند قبرهای سفید شده‌ای هستید که ظاهری زیبا دارند اما داخل آنها پر است از استخوانهای مردگان و کثافات!

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye are like whited sepulchres, which appear beautiful outwardly, but within are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.

28 شما می‌کوشید خود را دیندار جلوه دهید، ولی در زیر آن عبای مقدّستان، دلهایی دارید پر از ریا و گناه.

Thus also ye, outwardly ye appear righteous to men, but within are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

29 «وای بر شما ای علمای دین و فریسیان ریاکار! شما برای پیامبران مقبره می‌سازید و آرامگاه مقدّسین را زینت می‌دهید

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets and adorn the tombs of the just,

30 و می‌گویید:”اگر ما به جای اجدادمان بودیم، در کشتن پیامبران با آنها شریک نمی‌شدیم.“

and ye say, If we had been in the days of our fathers we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

31 «اما با این گفته، به زبان خود اعلام می‌دارید که فرزندان قاتلان انبیا هستید.

So that ye bear witness of yourselves that ye are sons of those who slew the prophets:

32 شما قدم به قدم از آنان پیروی می‌کنید؛ شما در اعمال بد، از ایشان پیشی گرفته‌اید.

and ye, fill ye up the measure of your fathers.

33 ای مارهای خوش خط و خال! چگونه می‌توانید از مجازات جهنم جان به در ببرید؟ (Geenna g1067)

Serpents, offspring of vipers, how should ye escape the judgment of hell? (Geenna g1067)

34 «من، انبیا و مردان حکیم و علما را به سوی شما می‌فرستم، و شما بعضی را به دار خواهید کشید و بعضی را در کنیسه‌های خود زیر ضربه‌های شلّاق گرفته، شهر به شهر آواره خواهید کرد.

Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and [some] of them ye will kill and crucify, and [some] of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and will persecute from city to city;

35 پس خون مردم بی‌گناهی که بر زمین ریخته شده است، به گردن شما خواهد بود، از خون هابیل معصوم گرفته تا خون زکریا پسر برخیا که او را در داخل معبد، بین محرابگاه و مذبح، کشتید.

so that all righteous blood shed upon the earth should come upon you, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

36 براستی به شما می‌گویم که این نسل تاوان همۀ اینها را پس خواهد داد.

Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

37 «ای اورشلیم، ای اورشلیم، ای قاتلِ انبیا و سنگسارکنندۀ فرستادگان خدا! چند بار خواستم فرزندان تو را جمع کنم همان‌طور که مرغ جوجه‌های خود را زیر بال خود می‌گیرد، اما تو نخواستی.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, [the city] that kills the prophets and stones those that are sent unto her, how often would I have gathered thy children as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

38 پس اکنون خانه‌ات ویران خواهد ماند.

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate;

39 زیرا به شما می‌گویم که دیگر مرا نخواهید دید تا زمانی که بگویید”مبارک است آن که به نام خداوند می‌آید.“»

for I say unto you, Ye shall in no wise see me henceforth until ye say, Blessed [be] he that comes in the name of [the] Lord.

Jesus Preaches to the Multitude
