1 پس از مرگ یوشع، بنی‌اسرائیل از خداوند سؤال کردند: «خداوندا، کدام یک از قبیله‌های ما اول باید به جنگ کنعانی‌ها برود؟»

and to be after death Joshua and to ask son: descendant/people Israel in/on/with LORD to/for to say who? to ascend: rise to/for us to(wards) [the] Canaanite in/on/with beginning to/for to fight in/on/with him

2 خداوند به ایشان فرمود: «قبیلهٔ یهودا برود. من زمین کنعانی‌ها را به تصرف آنها در خواهم آورد.»

and to say LORD Judah to ascend: rise behold to give: give [obj] [the] land: country/planet in/on/with hand: power his

3 رهبران قبیلهٔ یهودا از قبیلهٔ شمعون خواستند تا ایشان را در این جنگ یاری نمایند، و به ایشان گفتند: «کمک کنید تا کنعانی‌ها را از سرزمینی که به قبیلهٔ ما تعلق دارد، بیرون کنیم. ما نیز به شما کمک خواهیم کرد تا زمین خود را تصاحب نمایید.» پس قبیلهٔ شمعون همراه قبیلهٔ یهودا عازم جنگ شدند.

4 خداوند ایشان را در شکست دادن کنعانی‌ها و فرزی‌ها کمک کرد به طوری که ده هزار تن از دشمنان را در بازق کشتند. پادشاه آنها، ادونی بازق گریخت ولی طولی نکشید که اسرائیلی‌ها او را دستگیر نموده، شستهای دست و پای او را بریدند.

7 ادونی بازق گفت: «هفتاد پادشاه با دست و پای شست بریده از خرده نانهای سفرهٔ من می‌خوردند. اکنون خدا مرا به سزای اعمالم رسانیده است.» ادونی بازق را به اورشلیم بردند و او در آنجا مرد.

8 قبیلهٔ یهودا شهر اورشلیم را گرفته، اهالی آنجا را قتل عام نمودند و شهر را به آتش کشیدند.

9 بعد از آن، آنها با کنعانی‌هایی که در نواحی کوهستانی و صحرای نِگِب و کوهپایه‌های غربی ساکن بودند وارد جنگ شدند.

and after to go down son: descendant/people Judah to/for to fight in/on/with Canaanite to dwell [the] mountain: hill country and [the] Negeb and [the] Shephelah

10 آنگاه قبیلهٔ یهودا بر کنعانی‌های ساکن حبرون (که قبلاً قریهٔ اربع نامیده می‌شد) حمله بردند و طایفه‌های شیشای، اخیمان و تلمای را شکست دادند.

11 سپس به شهر دبیر (که قبلاً به قریهٔ سفر معروف بود) هجوم بردند.

12 کالیب به افراد خود گفت: «هر که برود و قریۀ سفر را تصرف نماید، دخترم عکسه را به او به زنی خواهم داد.»

and to say Caleb which to smite [obj] Kiriath-sannah Kiriath-sannah and to capture her and to give: give(marriage) to/for him [obj] Achsah daughter my to/for woman: wife

13 عتن‌ئیل، پسر قناز (قناز برادر کوچک کالیب بود) شهر را تصرف نمود و کالیب عکسه را به او به زنی داد.

and to capture her Othniel son: child Kenaz brother: male-sibling Caleb [the] small: young from him and to give: give(marriage) to/for him [obj] Achsah daughter his to/for woman: wife

14 عتن‌ئیل وقتی عکسه را به خانهٔ خود می‌برد، او را ترغیب نمود تا از پدرش قطعه زمینی بخواهد. عکسه از الاغش پیاده شد تا در این باره با پدرش کالیب صحبت کند. کالیب از او پرسید: «چه می‌خواهی؟»

15 عکسه گفت: «یک هدیهٔ دیگر هم به من بده! آن زمینی که در نِگِب به من داده‌ای، زمین بی‌آبی است. یک قطعه زمین که چشمه در آن باشد به من بده.» پس کالیب چشمه‌های بالا و پایین را به او بخشید.

16 وقتی که قبیلهٔ یهودا به ملک تازهٔ خود واقع در بیابان نگب، نزدیک عراد، وارد شدند، قبیلهٔ قینی (از نسل پدرزن موسی) نیز به آنها پیوستند. آنها خانه‌های خود را در اریحا (معروف به شهر نخلستان) ترک نموده، از آن پس در میان قبیلهٔ یهودا ساکن شدند.

18 همچنین قبیلهٔ یهودا شهرهای غزه، اشقلون، عقرون و روستاهای اطراف آنها را فتح کردند.

19 خداوند به قبیلهٔ یهودا یاری نمود تا نواحی کوهستانی را تصرف کنند؛ اما موفق نشدند ساکنان دشتها را بیرون رانند، چون ساکنان آنجا دارای ارابه‌های آهنین بودند.

20 همان‌طور که موسی قول داده بود شهر حبرون به کالیب داده شد و کالیب اهالی این شهر را که از نسل سه پسر عناق بودند، بیرون راند.

21 قبیلهٔ بنیامین، یبوسی‌هایی را که در اورشلیم سکونت داشتند بیرون نکردند بنابراین آنها تا به امروز در آنجا در میان قبیلهٔ بنیامین زندگی می‌کنند.

22 خداوند با قبیلهٔ یوسف بود، و آنها توانستند بیت‌ئیل را (که قبلاً لوز نامیده می‌شد) تصرف کنند. آنها نخست جاسوسانی به شهر فرستادند.

24 آن جاسوسان مردی را که از شهر بیرون می‌آمد گرفتند و به او گفتند که اگر به آنها راه نفوذ به شهر را نشان دهد جان او و خانواده‌اش در امان خواهد بود.

25 او راه نفوذ به شهر را به آنها نشان داد. پس وارد شده، اهالی شهر را قتل عام نمودند، ولی آن مرد و خانواده‌اش را نکشتند.

26 بعد این مرد به سرزمین حیتی‌ها رفت و در آنجا شهری بنا کرد و آن را لوز نامید که تا به امروز به همان نام باقی است.

27 قبیلهٔ منسی نتوانستند ساکنان شهرهای بیت‌شان، تعنک، دُر، یبلعام، مجدو و اهالی روستاهای اطراف آنها را بیرون کنند. پس کنعانی‌ها همچنان در آنجا ماندند.

28 وقتی اسرائیلی‌ها نیرومندتر شدند، کنعانی‌ها را مثل برده به کار گرفتند ولی آنها را به کلی از آن سرزمین بیرون نکردند.

and to be for to strengthen: strengthen Israel and to set: put [obj] [the] Canaanite to/for taskworker and to possess: take not to possess: take him

29 قبیلهٔ افرایم نیز کنعانی‌های ساکن جازر را بیرون نکردند و آنها هنوز هم در میان قبیلهٔ افرایم زندگی می‌کنند.

and Ephraim not to possess: take [obj] [the] Canaanite [the] to dwell in/on/with Gezer and to dwell [the] Canaanite in/on/with entrails: among his in/on/with Gezer

30 قبیلهٔ زبولون نیز اهالی فطرون و نهلول را بیرون نراندند، پس این کنعانی‌ها در میان قبیلهٔ زبولون باقی ماندند و به صورت برده به کار گرفته شدند.

31 همچنین قبیلهٔ اشیر، ساکنان عکو، صیدون، احلب، اکزیب، حلبه، عفیق و رحوب را بیرون نراندند. بنابراین قبیلهٔ اشیر در میان کنعانی‌های آن سرزمین زندگی می‌کنند.

33 قبیلهٔ نفتالی هم ساکنان بیت‌شمس و بیت‌عنات را بیرون نکردند، بنابراین ایشان مثل برده در میان این قبیله به زندگی خود ادامه می‌دهند.

Naphtali not to possess: take [obj] to dwell Beth-shemesh Beth-shemesh and [obj] to dwell Beth-anath Beth-anath and to dwell in/on/with entrails: among [the] Canaanite to dwell [the] land: country/planet and to dwell Beth-shemesh Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath Beth-anath to be to/for them to/for taskworker

34 اما قبیلهٔ دان توسط اموری‌ها به کوهستان رانده شدند و نتوانستند از آنجا پایین بیایند و در دشت ساکن شوند.

35 اموری‌ها قصد داشتند، اَیَلون، شَعَلُبیم و کوه حارس را تصرف کنند ولی قبیلهٔ یوسف آنها را مغلوب ساخته، به بردگی گرفتند.

36 سرحد اموری‌ها از گردنهٔ عقربها شروع شده، به سالع می‌رسید و از آنجا نیز فراتر می‌رفت.
