| روزی ابیملک پسر جدعون برای دیدن خاندان مادرش به شکیم رفت و به ایشان گفت: «بروید و به اهالی شکیم بگویید که آیا می‌خواهند هفتاد پسر جدعون بر آنها پادشاهی کنند یا فقط یک نفر یعنی خودم که از گوشت و استخوان ایشان هستم؟» | 1 |
Abimelech son of Jerub Baal went to his mother's relatives at Shechem and he said to them and to the whole clan of his mother's family,

“Please say this, so that all the leaders in Shechem may hear, 'Which is better for you, that all seventy sons of Jerub Baal rule over you, or that just one rule over you?' Remember that I am your bone and your flesh.”
| پس آنها پیشنهاد ابیملک را با اهالی شهر در میان گذاشتند و ایشان تصمیم گرفتند از ابیملک پیروی کنند، زیرا مادرش اهل شکیم بود. | 3 |
His mother's relatives spoke for him to the leaders of Shechem, and they agreed to follow Abimelech, for they said, “He is our brother.”
| آنها از بتخانهٔ بعل‌بریت، هفتاد مثقال نقره به ابیملک دادند و او افراد ولگردی را برای اجرای مقاصد خود اجیر کرد. | 4 |
They gave him seventy pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-Berith, and Abimelech used it to hire men of lawless and reckless character, who followed him.
| پس آنها را با خود برداشته، به خانهٔ پدرش در عفره رفت و در آنجا بر روی سنگی هفتاد برادر خود را کشت. اما یوتام کوچکترین برادرش خود را پنهان کرد و او زنده ماند. | 5 |
Abimelech went to his father's house at Ophrah, and upon one stone he murdered his seventy brothers, the sons of Jerub Baal. Only Jotham was left, the youngest son of Jerub Baal, for he hid himself.
| آنگاه تمام اهالی شکیم و بیت‌ملو کنار درخت بلوطی که در شکیم است جمع شده، ابیملک را به پادشاهی اسرائیل برگزیدند. | 6 |
All the leaders of Shechem and Beth Millo came together and they went and made Abimelech king, beside the oak near the pillar which is in Shechem.
| چون یوتام این را شنید، به کوه جرزیم رفت و ایستاده، با صدای بلند به اهالی شکیم گفت: «اگر طالب برکت خداوند هستید، به من گوش کنید! | 7 |
When Jotham was told about this, he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim. He shouted and said to them, “Listen to me, you leaders of Shechem, so that God may listen to you.
| روزی درختان تصمیم گرفتند برای خود پادشاهی انتخاب کنند. اول از درخت زیتون خواستند که پادشاه آنها شود، | 8 |
The trees once went out to anoint a king over them. For they said to the olive tree, 'Reign over us.'
| اما درخت زیتون نپذیرفت و گفت: آیا درست است که من تنها به دلیل سلطنت بر درختان دیگر، از تولید روغن زیتون که باعث عزت و احترام خدا و انسان می‌شود، دست بکشم؟ | 9 |
But the olive tree said to them, 'Should I give up my oil, which is used to honor gods and mankind, so I may go return, just to sway over the other trees?'
| سپس درختان نزد درخت انجیر رفتند و از او خواستند تا بر ایشان سلطنت نماید. | 10 |
The trees said to the fig tree, 'Come and reign over us.'
| درخت انجیر نیز قبول نکرد و گفت: آیا تولید میوهٔ خوب و شیرین خود را ترک نمایم صرفاً برای اینکه بر درختان دیگر حکمرانی کنم؟ | 11 |
But the fig tree said to them, 'Should I give up my sweetness and my good fruit, just so I could return and sway over the other trees?'
| بعد به درخت انگور گفتند که بر آنها پادشاهی کند. | 12 |
The trees said to the vine, 'Come and reign over us.'
| درخت انگور نیز جواب داد: آیا از تولید شیره که خدا و انسان را به وجد می‌آورد دست بردارم، فقط برای اینکه بر درختان دیگر سلطنت کنم؟ | 13 |
The vine said to them, 'Should I give up my new wine, which cheers gods and mankind, and return and sway over the other trees?'
| سرانجام همهٔ درختان به بوتهٔ خار روی آوردند و از آن خواستند تا بر آنها سلطنت کند. | 14 |
Then said all the trees to the thornbush, 'Come and reign over us.'
| خار در جواب گفت: اگر واقعاً می‌خواهید که من بر شما حکمرانی کنم، بیایید و زیر سایهٔ من پناه بگیرید! در غیر این صورت آتش از من زبانه خواهد کشید و سروهای بزرگ لبنان را خواهد سوزاند. | 15 |
The thornbush said to the trees, 'If you truly want to anoint me as king over you, then come and find safety under my shade. If not, then let fire come out of the thornbush and let it burn up the cedars of Lebanon.'
| «حال فکر کنید و ببینید آیا با پادشاه ساختن ابیملک عمل درستی انجام داده‌اید و نسبت به جدعون و فرزندانش به حق رفتار نموده‌اید؟ | 16 |
Now therefore, if you have acted in truth and honesty, when you made Abimelech king, and if you have done well concerning Jerub Baal and his house, and if you have punished him as he deserves—
| پدرم برای شما جنگید و جان خود را به خطر انداخت و شما را از دست مدیانیان رهانید. | 17 |
—and to think that my father fought for you, risked his life, and rescued you out of the hand of Midian—
| با وجود این، شما علیه او قیام کردید و هفتاد پسرش را روی یک سنگ کشتید و ابیملک پسر کنیز پدرم را به پادشاهی خود برگزیده‌اید فقط به سبب اینکه با شما خویش است. | 18 |
but today you have risen up against my father's house and have killed his sons, seventy persons, upon one stone. Then you have made Abimelech, the son of his female servant, king over the leaders of Shechem, because he is your relative.
| اگر یقین دارید که رفتارتان در حق جدعون و پسرانش درست بوده است، پس باشد که شما و ابیملک با یکدیگر خوش باشید. | 19 |
If you acted with honesty and integrity with Jerub Baal and his house, then you should rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you.
| اما اگر بر جدعون و فرزندانش ظلم کرده‌اید، آتشی از ابیملک بیرون بیاید و اهالی شکیم و بیت‌ملو را بسوزاند و از آنها هم آتشی بیرون بیاید و ابیملک را بسوزاند.» | 20 |
But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and burn up the men of Shechem and Beth Millo. Let fire come out from the men of Shechem and Beth Millo, to burn up Abimelech.”
| آنگاه یوتام از ترس برادرش ابیملک به بئیر گریخت و در آنجا ساکن شد. | 21 |
Jotham fled and ran away, and he went to Beer. He lived there because it was far away from Abimelech, his brother.
| سه سال پس از حکومت ابیملک، خدا رابطهٔ بین ابیملک و مردم شکیم را به هم زد و آنها شورش کردند. | 22 |
Abimelech ruled over Israel for three years.

God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem. The leaders of Shechem betrayed the trust they had with Abimelech.
| خدا این کار را کرد تا ابیملک و مردمان شکیم که او را در کشتن هفتاد پسر جدعون یاری کرده بودند، به سزای اعمال خود برسند. | 24 |
God did this so the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerub Baal might be avenged, and Abimelech their brother would be held responsible for murdering them, and the men of Shechem would be held responsible because they helped him murder his brothers.
| اهالی شکیم افرادی را بر قلهٔ کوهها گذاشتند تا در کمین ابیملک باشند. آنها هر کسی را از آنجا می‌گذشت، تاراج می‌کردند. اما ابیملک از این توطئه باخبر شد. | 25 |
So the leaders of Shechem positioned men to lie in wait on the hilltops that they might ambush him, and they robbed all who passed by them along that road. This was reported to Abimelech.
| در این هنگام جَعَل پسر عابد با برادرانش به شکیم کوچ کرد و اعتماد اهالی شهر را به خود جلب نمود. | 26 |
Gaal son of Ebed came with his relatives and they went over to Shechem. The leaders of Shechem had confidence in him.
| در عید برداشت محصول که در بتکدهٔ شکیم بر پا شده بود مردم شراب زیادی نوشیدند و به ابیملک ناسزا گفتند. | 27 |
They went out into the field and gathered grapes from the vineyards, and they trampled on them. They held a festival in the house of their god, where they ate and drank, and they cursed Abimelech.
| سپس جَعَل به مردم گفت: «ابیملک کیست که بر ما پادشاهی کند؟ چرا ما باید خدمتگزار پسر جدعون و دستیارش زبول باشیم؟ ما باید به جد خود حامور وفادار بمانیم. | 28 |
Gaal son of Ebed, said, “Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerub Baal? Is Zebul not his officer? Serve the men of Hamor, Shechem's father! Why should we serve Abimelech?
| اگر من پادشاه شما بودم شما را از شر ابیملک خلاص می‌کردم. به او می‌گفتم که لشکر خود را جمع کرده، به جنگ من بیاید.» | 29 |
I wish that this people were under my command! Then would I remove Abimelech. I would say to Abimelech, 'Call out all your army.'”
| وقتی زبول، حاکم شهر، شنید که جَعَل چه می‌گوید بسیار خشمگین شد. | 30 |
When Zebul, the official of the city, heard the words of Gaal son of Ebed his anger was kindled.
| پس قاصدانی به ارومه نزد ابیملک فرستاده، گفت: «جَعَل پسر عابد و برادرانش آمده، در شکیم زندگی می‌کنند و مردم شهر را بر ضد تو تحریک می‌نمایند. | 31 |
He sent messengers to Abimelech in order to deceive, saying, “See, Gaal son of Ebed and his relatives are coming to Shechem, and they are stirring up the city against you.
| پس شبانه لشکری با خود برداشته، بیا و در صحرا کمین کن. | 32 |
Now, get up during the night, you and the soldiers with you, and prepare an ambush in the fields.
| صبحگاهان، همین که هوا روشن شد به شهر حمله کن. وقتی که او و همراهانش برای جنگ با تو بیرون آیند، آنچه خواهی با ایشان بکن.» | 33 |
Then in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, rise early and make a raid on the city. When he and the people with him come out against you, do whatever you can to them.”
| ابیملک و دار و دسته‌اش شبانه عازم شکیم شده، به چهار دسته تقسیم شدند و در اطراف شهر کمین کردند. | 34 |
So Abimelech got up during the night, he and all the men who were with him, and they set an ambush against Shechem—dividing into four units.
| آنها جَعَل را دیدند که به طرف دروازهٔ شهر آمده، در آنجا ایستاد. پس، از کمینگاه خود خارج شدند. | 35 |
Gaal son of Ebed went out and stood in the entrance of the city gate. Abimelech and the men who were with him came out of their hiding place.
| وقتی جَعَل آنها را دید به زبول گفت: «نگاه کن، مثل اینکه عده‌ای از کوه سرازیر شده، به طرف ما می‌آیند!» زبول در جواب گفت: «نه، این که تو می‌بینی سایهٔ کوههاست.» | 36 |
When Gaal saw the men, he said to Zebul, “See, men are coming down from the hilltops!” Zebul said to him, “You are seeing the shadows on the hills like they are men.”
| پس از مدتی جَعَل دوباره گفت: «نگاه کن! عده‌ای از دامنهٔ کوه به طرف ما می‌آیند. نگاه کن! گروهی دیگر از راه بلوط معونیم می‌آیند!» | 37 |
Gaal spoke again and said, “Look, men are coming down in the middle of the land, and one unit is coming by way of the oak of the diviners.”
| آنگاه زبول رو به وی نموده، گفت: «حال آن زبانت کجاست که می‌گفت ابیملک کیست که بر ما پادشاهی کند؟ اکنون آنانی را که ناسزا می‌گفتی در بیرون شهر هستند؛ برو و با آنها بجنگ!» | 38 |
Then Zebul said to him, “Where are your proud words now, you who said, 'Who is Abimelech that we should serve him?' Are these not the men you despised? Go out now and fight against them.”
| جَعَل مردان شکیم را به جنگ ابیملک برد، | 39 |
Gaal went out and he was leading the men of Shechem, and he fought Abimelech.
| ولی ابیملک او را شکست داد و عدهٔ زیادی از اهالی شکیم زخمی شدند و در هر طرف تا نزدیک دروازهٔ شهر به زمین افتادند. | 40 |
Abimelech chased him, and Gaal fled before him. Many fell with deadly wounds before the entrance to the city gate.
| ابیملک به ارومه برگشت و در آنجا ماند و زبول، جَعَل و برادرانش را از شکیم بیرون راند و دیگر نگذاشت در آن شهر بمانند. | 41 |
Abimelech stayed in Arumah. Zebul forced Gaal and his relatives out of Shechem.
| روز بعد، مردان شکیم تصمیم گرفتند به صحرا بروند. خبر توطئهٔ ایشان به گوش ابیملک رسید. | 42 |
On the next day the people of Shechem went out into the field, and this was reported to Abimelech.
| او مردان خود را به سه دسته تقسیم کرد و در صحرا در کمین نشست. وقتی که اهالی شکیم از شهر خارج می‌شدند، ابیملک و همراهانش از کمینگاه بیرون آمدند و به ایشان حمله کردند. | 43 |
He took his people, divided them into three units, and they set an ambush in the fields. He looked and saw the people coming out from the city and he attacked and killed them.
| ابیملک و همراهانش به دروازهٔ شهر هجوم بردند و دو دستهٔ دیگر به مردان شکیم که در صحرا بودند حمله‌ور شده، آنها را شکست دادند. | 44 |
Abimelech and the units that were with him attacked and blocked the entrance to the city gate. The other two units attacked all who were in the field and killed them.
| جنگ تمام روز ادامه داشت تا اینکه بالاخره ابیملک شهر را تصرف کرد و اهالی آنجا را کشت و شهر را با خاک یکسان کرد. | 45 |
Abimelech fought against the city all that day. He captured the city, and killed the people who were in it. He tore down the city walls and spread salt over it.
| ساکنان برج شکیم وقتی از این واقعه باخبر شدند از ترس به قلعهٔ بت بعل‌بریت پناه بردند. | 46 |
When all the leaders of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered the stronghold of the house of El-Berith.
| وقتی که ابیملک از این موضوع باخبر شد، با نیروهای خود به کوه صلمون آمد. در آنجا تبری به دست گرفته، شاخه‌هایی از درختان را برید و آنها را بر دوش خود نهاد و به همراهانش نیز دستور داد که آنها هم فوراً چنین کنند. | 47 |
Abimelech was told that all the leaders had gathered together at the tower of Shechem.

Abimelech went up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the men who were with him. Abimelech took an ax and cut off branches. He put it on his shoulder and ordered the men with him, “What you have seen me do, hurry and do as I have done.”
| پس هر یک هیزمی تهیه کرده، بر دوش نهادند و به دنبال ابیملک روانه شدند. آنها هیزمها را به پای دیوار قلعه روی هم انباشته، آتش زدند. در نتیجه همهٔ مردان و زنانی که تعدادشان قریب به هزار نفر بود و به آن قلعه پناه برده بودند جان سپردند. | 49 |
So every one cut off branches and followed Abimelech. They piled them against the wall of the tower, and they set it on fire, so that all the people of the tower of Shechem also died, about a thousand men and women.
| سپس ابیملک به شهر تاباص حمله کرد و آن را تسخیر نمود. | 50 |
Then Abimelech went to Thebez, and he encamped against Thebez and captured it.
| در داخل شهر قلعه‌ای محکم وجود داشت که تمام اهالی شهر به آنجا گریختند. آنها درهای آن را محکم بستند و به پشت بام رفتند. | 51 |
But there was a strong tower in the city, and all the men and women and all the leaders of the city fled to it and shut themselves in. Then they went up to the roof of the tower.
| اما در حالی که ابیملک آماده می‌شد تا آن را آتش بزند، | 52 |
Abimelech came to the tower and fought against it, and he came up near to the door of the tower to burn it.
| زنی از پشت بام یک سنگ آسیاب دستی بر سر ابیملک انداخت و کاسهٔ سرش را شکست. | 53 |
But a woman dropped an upper millstone on Abimelech's head and it cracked his skull.
| ابیملک فوراً به جوانی که اسلحهٔ او را حمل می‌کرد دستور داده، گفت: «شمشیرت را بکش و مرا بکش مبادا بگویند که ابیملک به دست زنی کشته شد!» پس آن جوان شمشیر خود را به شکم وی فرو برد و او بلافاصله جان سپرد. | 54 |
Then he called urgently to the young man who was his armor-bearer, and said to him, “Draw your sword and kill me, so no one will say about me, 'A woman killed him.'” So his young man pierced him through, and he died.
| اسرائیلی‌ها چون دیدند که او مرده است به خانه‌های خود بازگشتند. | 55 |
When the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they went home.
| بدین طریق خدا ابیملک و مردان شکیم را به سبب گناه کشتن هفتاد پسر جدعون مجازات نمود و آنها به نفرین یوتام پسر جدعون گرفتار شدند. | 56 |
So God avenged the evil of Abimelech that he did to his father by murdering his seventy brothers.

God made all the evil of the men of Shechem turn back on their own heads and on them came the curse of Jotham son of Jerub Baal.
