| جدعون با سپاهش صبح زود حرکت کرده، تا چشمهٔ حرود پیش رفتند و در آنجا اردو زدند. مدیانی‌ها نیز در سمت شمالی آنها در درهٔ کوه موره اردو زده بودند. | 1 |
Then Yerubba'al, who is Gid'on, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of Charod; and the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
| خداوند به جدعون فرمود: «عدهٔ شما زیاد است! نمی‌خواهم همهٔ این افراد با مدیانی‌ها بجنگند، مبادا قوم اسرائیل مغرور شده، بگویند: این ما بودیم که دشمن را شکست دادیم! | 2 |
And the Lord said unto Gid'on, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand: lest Israel should vaunt themselves against me, saying, my own hand hath saved me.
| پس به افراد خود بگو: هر که می‌ترسد به خانه‌اش بازگردد.» بنابراین بیست و دو هزار نفر برگشتند و فقط ده هزار نفر ماندند تا بجنگند. | 3 |
Now therefore, do proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gil'ad. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and ten thousand remained.
| اما خداوند به جدعون فرمود: «هنوز هم عده زیاد است! آنها را نزد چشمه بیاور تا به تو نشان دهم که چه کسانی باید با تو بیایند و چه کسانی باید برگردند.» | 4 |
And the Lord said unto Gid'on, The people are yet too many; let them go down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I will say unto thee, This one shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee: and of whomsoever I will say unto thee, This one shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.
| پس جدعون آنها را به کنار چشمه برد. در آنجا خداوند به او گفت: «آنها را از نحوهٔ آب خوردنشان به دو گروه تقسیم کن. افرادی را که با کفِ دست، آب را جلوی دهان خود آوردند و آن را مثل سگ می‌نوشند از کسانی که زانو می‌زنند و دهان خود را در آب می‌گذارند، جدا ساز.» تعداد افرادی که با دست آب نوشیدند سیصد نفر بود. | 5 |
So he caused the people to go down unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gid'on, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as the dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that bendeth down upon his knees to drink.

And the number of those that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people bent down upon their knees to drink water.
| آنگاه خداوند به جدعون فرمود: «من به‌وسیلۀ این سیصد نفر، مدیانی‌ها را شکست خواهم داد و شما را از دستشان خواهم رهانید. پس بقیه را به خانه‌هایشان بفرست.» | 7 |
And the Lord said unto Gid'on, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand; and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
| جدعون کوزه‌ها و شیپورهای آنها را جمع‌آوری کرد و ایشان را به خانه‌هایشان فرستاد و تنها سیصد نفر برگزیده را پیش خود نگاه داشت. شب هنگام در حالی که مدیانیان در درهٔ پایین اردو زده بودند، خداوند به جدعون فرمود: «برخیز و به اردوی دشمن حمله کن زیرا آنها را به دست تو تسلیم کرده‌ام. | 8 |
And they took the provision of the people in their hand, and their cornets; and all the rest of Israel he dismissed, every man unto his tent; but those three hundred men he retained: and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

And it came to pass, during the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down into the camp; for I have delivered it into thy hand.
| اما اگر می‌ترسی اول با خادمت فوره مخفیانه به اردوگاه آنها برو. | 10 |
And if thou fear to go down, then go thou down with Purah thy servant to the camp.
| در آنجا به سخنانی که ایشان می‌گویند گوش بده. وقتی سخنان آنها را بشنوی جرأت یافته، به ایشان حمله خواهی کرد!» پس جدعون فوره را با خود برداشت و مخفیانه به اردوگاه دشمن نزدیک شد. | 11 |
And thou shalt hear what they will say; and after that shall thy hands be strengthened, and thou wilt go down unto the camp. And he went down with Purah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the camp.
| مدیانیان، عمالیقی‌ها و سایر قبایل همسایه مانند مور و ملخ در وادی جمع شده بودند. شترهایشان مثل ریگ بیابان بی‌شمار بود. جدعون به کنار چادری خزید. در این موقع در داخل آن چادر مردی بیدار شده، خوابی را که دیده بود برای رفیقش چنین تعریف کرد: «در خواب دیدم که یک قرص نان جوین به میان اردوی ما غلطید و چنان به خیمه‌ای برخورد نمود که آن را واژگون کرده، بر زمین پهن نمود.» | 12 |
And the Midianites and the 'Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like the locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is by the seaside for multitude.

And when Gid'on was come, behold, a man was telling a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream, and, lo, a baked cake of barley bread was rolling round through the camp of Midian, and came unto the tent, and struck against it so that it fell, and it turned it bottom upward, and the tent thus tumbled down.
| رفیق او گفت: «تعبیر خواب تو این است که خدا ما را به دست جدعون پسر یوآش اسرائیلی تسلیم می‌کند و جدعون همهٔ مدیانیان و نیروهای متحدش را از دم شمشیر خواهد گذراند.» | 14 |
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gid'on the son of Joash, a man of Israel; into whose hand God hath delivered Midian, and the whole camp.
| جدعون چون این خواب و تعبیرش را شنید خدا را شکر کرد. سپس به اردوگاه خود بازگشت و فریاد زد: «برخیزید! زیرا خداوند سپاه مدیان را به دست شما تسلیم می‌کند!» | 15 |
And it was, when Gid'on heard the narration of the dream, and its interpretation, that he prostrated himself, and returned unto the camp of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the camp of Midian.
| جدعون آن سیصد نفر را به سه دسته تقسیم کرد و به هر یک از افراد یک شیپور و یک کوزهٔ سفالی که مشعلی در آن قرار داشت، داد. | 16 |
And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put cornets in the hand of all of them, with empty pitchers, and torches in the pitchers.
| بعد نقشهٔ خود را چنین شرح داد: «وقتی به کنار اردو رسیدیم به من نگاه کنید و هر کاری که من می‌کنم شما نیز بکنید. | 17 |
And he said unto them, What you see me do, do ye likewise; and, behold, when I am come to the edge of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.
| به محض اینکه من و همراهانم شیپورها را بنوازیم، شما هم در اطراف اردو شیپورهای خود را بنوازید و با صدای بلند فریاد بزنید: ما برای خداوند و جدعون می‌جنگیم!» | 18 |
When I blow the cornet, I and all that are with me, then shall ye blow the cornets also on every side of all the camp, and say, For the Lord, and for Gid'on.
| نصف شب، بعد از تعویض نگهبانان، جدعون به همراه صد نفر به کنار اردوی مدیان رسید. ناگهان آنها شیپورها را نواختند و کوزه‌ها را شکستند. در همین وقت دویست نفر دیگر نیز چنین کردند. در حالی که شیپورها را به دست راست گرفته، می‌نواختند و مشعلهای فروزان را در دست چپ داشتند همه فریاد زدند: «شمشیری برای خداوند و برای جدعون!» | 19 |
And Gid'on, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the edge of the camp in the bcginning of the middle watch; when they had but newly set the sentinels: and they blew the cornets, and broke the pitchers that were in their hand.

And the three companies blew the cornets, and broke the pitchers, and seized with their left hand the torches, and with their right hand the cornets to blow; and they cried, The sword for the Lord, and for Gid'on.
| سپس هر یک در جای خود در اطراف اردوگاه ایستاد در حالی که افراد دشمن فریادکنان می‌گریختند. | 21 |
And they remained standing every man in his place round about the camp; and all [in] the camp ran, and shouted, and fled.
| زیرا وقتی صدای شیپورها برخاست خداوند سربازان دشمن را در سراسر اردو به جان هم انداخت. آنها تا بیت‌شطه نزدیک صریرت و تا سرحد آبل محوله، نزدیک طبات فرار کردند. | 22 |
And as the three hundred cornets sounded, the Lord set every man's sword against his fellow, even throughout all the camp; and [those in] the camp fled as far as Beth-hashittah to Zererah, up to the border of Abelmecholah, near Tabbath.
| آنگاه سپاهیان نفتالی، اشیر و منسی سپاهیان فراری مدیان را تعقیب کردند. | 23 |
And the men of Israel were called together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Menasseh, and they pursued after the Midianites.
| جدعون برای ساکنان سراسر کوهستان افرایم پیغام فرستاد که گذرگاههای رود اردن را تا بیت‌باره ببندند و نگذارند مدیانیان از رودخانه عبور کرده، فرار کنند. پس تمام مردان افرایم جمع شده، چنین کردند. | 24 |
And Gid'on sent messengers throughout all the mountain of Ephraim, saying, Come down against the Midianites, and seize from them the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan. And all the men of Ephraim assembled themselves, and seized on the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.
| آنها غراب و ذئب دو سردار مدیانی را گرفتند و غراب را بر صخره‌ای که اکنون به نام او معروف است و ذئب را در چرخشتی که به اسم او نامیده می‌شود کشتند. سپس به تعقیب مدیانی‌ها ادامه داده، سرهای غراب و ذئب را به آن طرف اردن نزد جدعون آوردند. | 25 |
And they captured two princes of the Midianites, 'Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew 'Oreb upon the rock 'Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued the Midianites; and the heads of 'Oreb and Zeeb they brought to Gid'on from the other side of the Jordan.
