داوران 3

1 خداوند برخی قبایل را در سرزمین کنعان واگذاشت تا نسل جدید اسرائیل را که هنوز طعم جنگ با کنعانی‌ها را نچشیده بودند، بیازماید.

These ben the folkis whiche the Lord lefte, that in hem he schulde teche Israel, and alle men that knewen not the batels of Cananeis;

2 خداوند به این وسیله می‌خواست به نسل جدید اسرائیل که در جنگیدن بی‌تجربه بودند، فرصتی بدهد تا جنگیدن را بیاموزند.

and that aftirward `the sones of hem schulden lerne to fiyte with enemyes,

3 این قبایل عبارت بودند از: فلسطینی‌هایی که هنوز در پنج شهر خود باقی مانده بودند، تمام کنعانی‌ها، صیدونی‌ها و حوی‌هایی که در کوهستان لبنان از کوه بعل حرمون تا گذرگاه حمات ساکن بودند.

and to haue custom of batel He lefte fyue princes of Filistees, and al Cananei, and the puple of Sidon, and Euey that dwelliden in the hil Liban, fro the hil Baal Hermon `til to the entryng of Emath.

4 این قبایل برای آزمایش نسل جدید اسرائیل در سرزمین کنعان باقی مانده بودند تا معلوم شود آیا اسرائیل دستورهایی را که خداوند به‌وسیلهٔ موسی به ایشان داده بود، اطاعت خواهند کرد یا نه.

And he lefte hem, that in hem he schulde asaie Israel, whethir thei wolden here the `heestis of the Lord, whiche he comaundide to her fadris bi the hond of Moises, ethir nai.

5 پس اسرائیلی‌ها در میان کنعانی‌ها، حیتی‌ها، اموری‌ها، فرزی‌ها، حوی‌ها و یبوسی‌ها ساکن شدند.

And so the sones of Israel dwelliden in the myddis of Cananei, of Ethei, and of Ammorrei, and of Feresei, and of Euey,

6 مردم اسرائیل به جای اینکه این قبایل را نابود کنند، با ایشان وصلت نمودند. مردان اسرائیلی با دختران آنها ازدواج کردند و دختران اسرائیلی به عقد مردان ایشان درآمدند و به این طریق بنی‌اسرائیل به بت‌پرستی کشیده شدند.

and of Jebusey, and weddiden wyues, the douytris of hem; and the sones of Israel yauen her douytris to `the sones of hem, and serueden `the goddis of hem.

7 مردم اسرائیل خداوند، خدای خود را فراموش کرده، دست به کارهایی زدند که در نظر خداوند زشت بود و بتهای بعل و اشیره را عبادت کردند.

And the sones of Israel diden yuel in the `siyt of the Lord, and foryaten her Lord God, and serueden Baalym, and Astaroth.

8 آنگاه خشم خداوند بر بنی‌اسرائیل افروخته شد و ایشان را تسلیم کوشان رشعتایم، پادشاه بین‌النهرین نمود و آنها مدت هشت سال او را بندگی کردند.

And the Lord was wrooth ayens Israel, and bitook hem in to the hondis of Cusanrasathaym, kyng of Mesopotanye, and thei serueden hym eiyte yeer.

9 اما چون برای کمک نزد خداوند فریاد برآوردند، خداوند عتنی‌ئیل پسر قناز را فرستاد تا ایشان را نجات دهد. (قناز برادر کوچک کالیب بود.)

And thei crieden to the Lord, and he reiside to hem a sauyour, and delyuerede hem, that is, Othonyel, sone of Ceneth, `the lesse brothir of Caleph.

10 روح خداوند بر عتنی‌ئیل قرار گرفت و او اسرائیل را رهبری کرده، با کوشان رشعتایم پادشاه وارد جنگ شد و خداوند به او کمک نمود تا کوشان رشعتایم را به کلی شکست دهد.

And the spirit of the Lord was in hym, and he demyde Israel. And he yede out to batel, and the Lord bitook in to hise hondis Cusanrathaym, kyng of Sirie; and Othonyel oppresside hym.

11 مدت چهل سالی که عتنی‌ئیل رهبری اسرائیل را به عهده داشت، در سرزمین بنی‌اسرائیل صلح حکمفرما بود.

And the lond restide fourti yeer; and Othonyel, sone of Ceneth, diede.

12 بعد از مرگ عتنی‌ئیل، مردم اسرائیل بار دیگر به راههای گناه‌آلود خود بازگشتند. بنابراین خداوند عجلون، پادشاه موآب را بر اسرائیل مسلط ساخت.

Forsothe the sones of Israel addiden to do yuel in the `siyt of the Lord; and he coumfortide ayens hem Eglon, the kyng of Moab, for `thei diden yuel in the `siyt of the Lord.

13 قوم عمون و عمالیق نیز با عجلون متحد شده، اسرائیل را شکست دادند و اریحا را که به «شهر نخلها» معروف بود به تصرف خود درآوردند.

And the Lord couplide to hym the sones of Amon and Amalech; and he yede, and smoot Israel, and hadde in possessioun the citee of Palmes.

14 از آن به بعد، اسرائیلی‌ها مدت هجده سال عجلون پادشاه موآب را بندگی کردند.

And the sones of Israel serueden Eglon, kyng of Moab, eiytene yeer.

15 اما وقتی بنی‌اسرائیل نزد خداوند فریاد برآوردند، خداوند ایهود، پسر جیرای بنیامینی را که مرد چپ دستی بود فرستاد تا آنها را برهاند. اسرائیلی‌ها ایهود را انتخاب کردند تا جزیه را به پایتخت موآب برده، به عجلون تحویل دهد.

And aftirward thei crieden to the Lord; and he reiside to hem a sauyour, Aioth bi name, the sone of Gera, sone of Gemyny, which Aioth vside euer either hond for the riyt hond. And the sones of Israel senten bi him yiftis, `that is, tribute, to Eglon, kyng of Moab;

16 ایهود پیش از رفتن، یک خنجر دو دم به طول نیم متر برای خود ساخت و آن را زیر لباسش بر ران راست خود بست.

which Aioth made to hym a swerd keruynge on euer either side, hauynge in the myddis a pomel of the lengthe of the pawm of an hond; and he was gird therwith vndir `the sai, `that is, a knyytis mentil, `in the riyt hipe.

17 او جزیه را به عجلون که مرد بسیار چاقی بود تحویل داده، همراه افراد خود راهی منزل شد. اما بیرون شهر نزدیک معدنهای سنگ در جلجال، افراد خود را روانه نمود و خود به تنهایی نزد عجلون پادشاه بازگشت و به او گفت: «من یک پیغام محرمانه برای تو دارم.» پادشاه خدمتگزاران خود را بیرون کرد تا پیغام محرمانهٔ او را بشنود.

And he brouyte yiftis to Eglon, the kyng of Moab; forsothe Eglon was ful fat.

And whanne he hadde youe yiftis to the kyng, he pursuede felowis that camen with hym; and he turnede ayen fro Galgalis,

19

where idolis weren, and he seide to the kyng, A kyng, Y haue a priuei word to thee. And he comaundide silence. And whanne alle men weren goon out, that weren aboute hym, Aioth entride to hym;

20 پس ایهود با عجلون در قصر ییلاقی پادشاه تنها ماند. ایهود به عجلون نزدیک شده گفت: «پیغامی که من دارم از جانب خداست!» عجلون از جای خود برخاست تا آن را بشنود.

forsothe he sat aloone in a somer parlour. And Aioth seide, Y haue the word of God to thee.

21 ایهود با دست چپ خود خنجر را از زیر لباسش بیرون کشیده، آن را در شکم پادشاه فرو برد.

Which roos anoon fro the trone. And Aioth helde forth the left hond, and took the swerd fro his riyt hype; and he

22 تیغه با دستهٔ خنجر در شکم او فرو رفت و روده‌هایش بیرون ریخت. ایهود بدون آنکه خنجر را از شکم او بیرون بکشد درها را به روی او بست و از راه بالاخانه گریخت.

fastnede in to the `wombe of the kyng so strongli, that the pomel, `ether hilte, suede the yrun in the wounde, and was holdun streite `in the thickeste fatnesse with ynne; and he drow not out the swerd, but so as he hadde smyte, he lefte in the bodi; and anoon bi the priuetees of kynde the tordis of the wombe braste out.

Forsothe whanne the doris of the parlour weren closid moost diligentli, and fastned with lok,

24 وقتی خدمتگزاران پادشاه برگشتند و درها را بسته دیدند، در انتظار ماندند چون فکر کردند که عجلون به دستشویی رفته است.

Aioth yede out bi a posterne. And the `seruauntis of the king entriden, not in the parlour, but in the porche, and thei sien the doris of the parlour closid, and seiden, In hap he purgith the wombe in the somer parlour.

25 اما وقتی انتظار آنها به طول انجامید و از او خبری نشد، نگران شده، کلیدی آوردند و در را باز کردند و دیدند که اربابشان به زمین افتاده و مرده است!

And thei abididen longe, til thei weren aschamed; and thei sien that no man openede, and thei token the keie, and thei openyden, and founden her lord liggynge deed in the erthe.

26 در این موقع ایهود از معدنهای سنگ گذشته، به سعیرت گریخته بود.

Sotheli while thei weren disturblid, Aioth fledde out, and passide the place of idols, fro whennus he turnede ayen; and he cam in to Seirath.

27 وقتی او به کوهستان افرایم رسید شیپور را به صدا درآورد و مردان اسرائیلی را دور خود جمع کرد و به آنها گفت: «همراه من بیایید، زیرا خداوند، دشمنانتان موآبی‌ها را به دست شما تسلیم کرده است!» پس مردان اسرائیلی به دنبال او از کوهستان پایین آمدند و گذرگاههای رود اردن نزدیک موآب را گرفتند و نگذاشتند هیچ‌کس از آنها بگذرد.

And anoon he sownede with a clarioun in the hil of Effraym; and the sones of Israel camen doun with hym, and he yede in the frount.

Which seide to hem, Sue ye me, for the Lord hath bitake oure enemyes, Moabitis, in to oure hondis. And thei camen doun after hym, and ocupieden the forthis of Jordan, that ledde ouer in to Moab.

29 آنگاه بر موآبی‌ها تاخته، حدود ده هزار نفر از سربازان نیرومند آنها را کشتند و نگذاشتند حتی یکی از آنها جان به در برد.

And thei suffriden not ony man to passe, but thei smytiden Moabitis in that tyme aboute ten thousande, alle myyti men and stronge; no man of hem myyte ascape.

30 آن روز اسرائیلی‌ها، موآبی‌ها را شکست دادند و تا هشتاد سال صلح در سرزمین بنی‌اسرائیل برقرار گردید.

And Moab was maad low in that dai vndur the hond of Israel, and the lond restide fourescoor yeer.

31 بعد از ایهود، شمجر پسر عنات رهبر اسرائیل شد. او یک بار با چوب گاورانی ششصد نفر از فلسطینی‌ها را کشت و بدین وسیله اسرائیلی‌ها را از دست آنها نجات داد.

Aftir hym was Samgar, the sone of Anath, that smoot of Filisteis sixe hundrid men with a schar; and he also defendide Israel.
