| روزی فرشتهٔ خداوند از جلجال به بوکیم آمده، به قوم اسرائیل گفت: «من شما را از مصر به سرزمینی که وعدهٔ آن را به اجدادتان دادم آوردم و گفتم که هرگز عهدی را که با شما بسته‌ام نخواهم شکست، به شرطی که شما نیز با اقوامی که در سرزمین موعود هستند هم پیمان نشوید و مذبحهای آنها را خراب کنید؛ ولی شما اطاعت نکردید. | 1 |
And an Angel of the Lord came vp from Gilgal to Bochim, and sayd, I made you to go vp out of Egypt, and haue brought you vnto the land which I had sworne vnto your fathers, and sayd, I wil neuer breake my couenant with you.

Ye also shall make no couenant with the inhabitants of this land, but shall breake downe their altars: but ye haue not obeyed my voyce. Why haue ye done this?
| پس من نیز این قومها را از این سرزمین بیرون نمی‌کنم و آنها چون خار به پهلوی شما فرو خواهند رفت و خدایان ایشان چون تله شما را گرفتار خواهند کرد.» | 3 |
Wherefore, I sayd also, I wil not cast them out before you, but they shalbe as thornes vnto your sides, and their gods shalbe your destruction.
| وقتی فرشته سخنان خود را به پایان رسانید، قوم اسرائیل با صدای بلند گریستند. | 4 |
And when the Angel of the Lord spake these wordes vnto all the children of Israel, the people lift vp their voyce, and wept.
| آنها آن مکان را بوکیم نامیده، در آنجا برای خداوند قربانی کردند. | 5 |
Therefore they called the name of that place, Bochim, and offered sacrifices there vnto the Lord.
| یوشع قوم اسرائیل را پس از ختم سخنرانی خود مرخص کرد و آنها رفتند تا زمینهایی را که به ایشان تعلق می‌گرفت، به تصرف خود درآورند. | 6 |
Now when Ioshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went euery man into his inheritance, to possesse the land.
| یوشع خدمتگزار خداوند، در سن صد و ده سالگی درگذشت و او را در ملکش در تمنه حارس واقع در کوهستان افرایم به طرف شمال کوه جاعش به خاک سپردند. قوم اسرائیل در طول زندگانی یوشع و نیز ریش‌سفیدان قوم که پس از او زنده مانده بودند و شخصاً اعمال شگفت‌انگیز خداوند را در حق اسرائیل دیده بودند، نسبت به خداوند وفادار ماندند. | 7 |
And the people had serued the Lord al the dayes of Ioshua, and all the dayes of the Elders that outliued Ioshua, which had seene all the great works of the Lord that he did for Israel.

But Ioshua the sonne of Nun the seruant of the Lord dyed, when he was an hundreth and ten yeeres olde:
| 9 |
And they buryed him in the coastes of his inheritance, in Timnath-heres in mount Ephraim, on the Northside of mount Gaash.
| ولی سرانجام تمام مردم آن نسل مردند و نسل بعدی خداوند را فراموش کردند و هر آنچه که او برای قوم اسرائیل انجام داده بود، به یاد نیاوردند. | 10 |
And so all that generation was gathered vnto their fathers, and another generation arose after them, which neither knewe the Lord, nor yet the works, which he had done for Israel.
| ایشان نسبت به خداوند گناه ورزیدند و به پرستش بتهای بعل روی آوردند. | 11 |
Then the children of Israel did wickedly in the sight of the Lord, and serued Baalim,
| آنها خداوند خدای پدران خود را که آنها را از مصر بیرون آورده بود ترک نموده، بتهای اقوام اطرافشان را عبادت و سجده می‌کردند، بنابراین خشم خداوند بر تمام اسرائیل افروخته شد، | 12 |
And forsooke ye Lord God of their fathers, which brought them out of the lande of Egypt, and followed other gods, euen the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed vnto them, and prouoked the Lord to anger.
| زیرا آنها خداوند را ترک نموده، بتهای بعل و عشتاروت را عبادت کردند. | 13 |
So they forsooke the Lord, and serued Baal, and Ashtaroth.
| پس خداوند آنها را به دست دشمنانشان سپرد تا غارت شوند، به حدی که توان مقابله با دشمنان را نداشتند. | 14 |
And the wrath of the Lord was hote against Israel, and he deliuered them into the hands of spoylers, that spoyled them, and he sold them into the handes of their enemies rounde about them, so that they could no longer stande before their enemies.
| هرگاه قوم اسرائیل با دشمنان می‌جنگیدند، خداوند بر ضد اسرائیل عمل می‌کرد، همان‌طور که قبلاً در این مورد هشدار داده و قسم خورده بود. اما وقتی که قوم به این وضع فلاکت‌بار دچار گردیدند | 15 |
Whithersoeuer they went out, the hand of the Lord was sore against them, as ye Lord had sayd, and as the Lord had sworne vnto them: so he punished them sore.
| خداوند رهبرانی فرستاد تا ایشان را از دست دشمنانشان برهانند. | 16 |
Notwithstanding, the Lord raysed vp Iudges, which deliuered them out of the hands of their oppressours.
| ولی از رهبران نیز اطاعت ننمودند و با پرستش خدایان دیگر، نسبت به خداوند خیانت ورزیدند. آنها برخلاف اجدادشان عمل کردند و خیلی زود از پیروی خداوند سر باز زده، او را اطاعت ننمودند. | 17 |
But yet they would not obey their Iudges: for they went a whoring after other gods, and worshipped them, and turned quickly out of the way, wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandements of the Lord: they did not so.
| هر یک از رهبران در طول عمر خود، به کمک خداوند قوم اسرائیل را از دست دشمنانشان می‌رهانید، زیرا خداوند به سبب نالهٔ قوم خود و ظلم و ستمی که بر آنها می‌شد، دلش بر آنها می‌سوخت و تا زمانی که آن رهبر زنده بود به آنها کمک می‌کرد. | 18 |
And when the Lord had raysed them vp Iudges, the Lord was with the Iudge, and deliuered them out of the hande of their enemies all the dayes of the Iudge (for the Lord had compassion on their gronings, because of them that oppressed them and tormented them)
| اما وقتی که آن رهبر می‌مرد، قوم به کارهای زشت خود برمی‌گشتند و حتی بدتر از نسل قبل رفتار می‌کردند. آنها باز به سوی خدایان بت‌پرستان روی آورده، جلوی آنها زانو می‌زدند و آنها را عبادت می‌نمودند و با سرسختی به پیروی از رسوم زشت بت‌پرستان ادامه می‌دادند. | 19 |
Yet when the Iudge was dead, they returned, and did worse then their fathers, in following other gods to serue them and worshippe them: they ceased not from their owne inuentions, nor from their rebellious way.
| پس خشم خداوند بر بنی‌اسرائیل افروخته شد و فرمود: «چون این قوم پیمانی را که با پدران ایشان بستم شکسته‌اند و از من اطاعت نکرده‌اند، | 20 |
Wherfore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he sayd, Because this people hath transgressed my couenant, which I commaded their fathers, and hath not obeyed my voyce,
| من نیز قبایلی را که هنگام فوت یوشع هنوز مغلوب نشده بودند، بیرون نخواهم کرد. | 21 |
Therefore will I no more cast out before them any of the nations, which Ioshua left when he dyed,
| بلکه آنها را برای آزمودن قوم خود می‌گذارم تا ببینم آیا آنها چون پدران خود، مرا اطاعت خواهند کرد یا نه.» | 22 |
That through them I may proue Israel, whether they wil keepe the way of the Lord, to walke therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.
| پس خداوند آن قبایل را در سرزمین کنعان واگذاشت. او ایشان را توسط یوشع به کلی شکست نداده بود و بعد از مرگ یوشع نیز فوری آنها را بیرون نکرد. | 23 |
So the Lord left those nations, and droue them not out immediatly, neither deliuered them into the hand of Ioshua.
