1 در کوهستان افرایم مردی به نام میخا زندگی می‌کرد.

And there was a man of the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Michayhu.

2 روزی او به مادرش گفت: «آن هزار و صد مثقال نقره‌ای را که فکر می‌کردی از تو دزدیده‌اند و من شنیدم که دزدش را نفرین می‌کردی، نزد من است، من آن را برداشته‌ام.» مادرش گفت: «چون تو اعتراف کردی، خداوند تو را برکت خواهد داد.»

And he said unto his mother, The eleven hundred shekels of silver that were taken from thee, about which thou cursedst, and spokest of also in my ears, —behold, the silver is with me; I took it. And his mother said, Blessed be my son unto the Lord.

3 پس میخا آن مقدار نقره را که دزدیده بود، به مادرش پس داد. مادرش گفت: «من این نقره را وقف خداوند می‌نمایم و از آن یک بت نقره‌ای برای تو تهیه می‌کنم تا این لعنت از تو دور شود.»

And he restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother; and his mother said, I had wholly dedicated the silver unto the Lord from my hand, for my son, to make a graven and molten image; and now I will give it back unto thee.

4 پس مادرش دویست مثقال از آن نقره را گرفته، پیش زرگر برد و دستور داد با آن بُتی بسازد. بت ساخته شد و در خانهٔ میخا گذاشته شد. میخا در خانه‌اش علاوه بر بتها، ایفود نیز داشت. او یکی از پسرانش را به کاهنی بتخانهٔ خود تعیین نمود.

Yet he gave the money back unto his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver, and gave them to the silversmith, who made thereof a graven and molten image; and it was in the house of Micah.

And the man Micah had a house of god, and he made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

6 در آن زمان بنی‌اسرائیل پادشاهی نداشت و هر کس هر کاری را که دلش می‌خواست انجام می‌داد.

In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did what seemed right in his own eyes.

7 یک روز جوانی از قبیلهٔ لاوی که اهل بیت‌لحم یهودا بود شهر خود را ترک گفت تا جای مناسبی برای زندگی پیدا کند. در طول سفر به خانهٔ میخا در کوهستان افرایم رسید.

And there was a young man out of Beth-lechem-judah of the family of Judah, but he was a Levite, and sojourned there.

And the man departed from the city, from Beth-lechem-judah, to sojourn where he could find [a place]; and he came to the mountain of Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he was pursuing his journey.

9 میخا از او پرسید: «اهل کجا هستی؟» او گفت: «من از قبیلهٔ لاوی و اهل بیت‌لحم یهودا هستم و می‌خواهم جای مناسبی برای سکونت پیدا کنم.»

And Micah said unto him, Whence comest thou? And he said unto him, I am a Levite from Beth-lechem-judah, and I go to sojourn where I may find [a place].

10 میخا گفت: «اگر بخواهی می‌توانی پیش من بمانی و کاهن من باشی. سالیانه ده مثقال نقره، یک دست لباس و خوراک به تو خواهم داد.» آن لاوی جوان موافقت کرد و پیش او ماند. میخا او را چون یکی از پسرانش می‌دانست

And Micah said unto him, Remain with me, and become unto me a father and a priest, and I will give thee ten shekels of silver for the year, and suitable apparel, and thy victuals. And the Levite went in.

And the Levite consented to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.

12 و وی را کاهن خود تعیین نمود و او در منزل میخا سکونت گزید.

And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and remained in the house of Micah.

13 میخا گفت: «حال که از قبیلهٔ لاوی کاهنی برای خود دارم، می‌دانم که خداوند مرا برکت خواهد داد.»

Then said Micah, Now I know that the Lord will do me good, seeing I have obtained a Levite for priest.
