| پس از مدتی، در موقع درو گندم، سامسون بزغاله‌ای به عنوان هدیه برداشت تا پیش زن خود برود. اما پدرزنش وی را به خانه راه نداد، | 1 |
And it came to pass after some time, in the time of wheat-harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, Let me go in to my wife into the chamber; but her father would not suffer him to go in.
| و گفت: «من گمان می‌کردم تو از او نفرت داری، از این رو وی را به عقد ساقدوش تو درآوردم. اما خواهر کوچکش از او خیلی زیباتر است؛ می‌توانی با او ازدواج کنی.» | 2 |
And her father said, I verily thought that thou didst utterly hate her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? Let her be thine, I pray thee, instead of her.
| سامسون فریاد زد: «اکنون هر بلایی بر سر فلسطینی‌ها بیاورم گناهش به گردن من نیست.» | 3 |
And Samson said to them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them evil.
| پس بیرون رفته، سیصد شغال گرفت و دمهای آنها را جفت‌جفت به هم بست و در میان هر جفت مشعلی قرار داد. | 4 |
And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put one torch between two tails in the midst;
| بعد مشعلها را آتش زد و شغالها را در میان کشتزارهای فلسطینیان رها نمود. با این عمل تمام محصول و درختان زیتون سوخته و نابود شد. | 5 |
And he set the torches on fire, and let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both shocks and standing corn, as also olive-yards.
| فلسطینی‌ها از یکدیگر می‌پرسیدند: «چه کسی این کار را کرده است؟» سرانجام فهمیدند که کار سامسون داماد تمنی بوده است، زیرا تمنی زن او را به مرد دیگری داده بود. پس فلسطینی‌ها آن دختر را با پدرش زنده‌زنده سوزانیدند. | 6 |
Then said the Philistines, Who hath done this! And they answered, Samson, the son-in-law of the Thimnite, because he hath taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines went up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
| سامسون وقتی این را شنید خشمگین شد و قسم خورد که تا انتقام آنها را نگیرد آرام ننشیند. | 7 |
And Samson said unto them, Since ye will do the like of this, I will surely be avenged on you, and after that will I cease.
| پس با بی‌رحمی بر فلسطینی‌ها حمله برده، بسیاری از آنها را کشت، سپس به صخرهٔ عیطام رفت و در غاری ساکن شد. | 8 |
And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and tarried in the cleft of the rock 'Etam.
| فلسطینی‌ها نیز سپاهی بزرگ به سرزمین یهودا فرستادند و شهر لحی را محاصره کردند. | 9 |
And the Philistines went up, and encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lechi.
| اهالی یهودا پرسیدند: «چرا ما را محاصره کرده‌اید؟» فلسطینی‌ها جواب دادند: «آمده‌ایم تا سامسون را بگیریم و بلایی را که بر سر ما آورد بر سرش بیاوریم.» | 10 |
And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.
| پس سه هزار نفر از مردان یهودا به غار صخرهٔ عیطام نزد سامسون رفتند و به او گفتند: «این چه کاریست که کردی؟ مگر نمی‌دانی که ما زیر دست فلسطینی‌ها هستیم؟» ولی سامسون جواب داد: «من فقط آنچه را که بر سر من آورده بودند، تلافی کردم.» | 11 |
Thereupon went three thousand men of Judah down to the cleft of the rock 'Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines rule over us? and what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
| مردان یهودا گفتند: «ما آمده‌ایم تو را ببندیم و به فلسطینی‌ها تحویل دهیم.» سامسون گفت: «بسیار خوب، ولی به من قول دهید که خود شما مرا نکشید.» | 12 |
And they said unto him, To bind thee are we come down, to deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not assail me yourselves.
| آنها جواب دادند: «تو را نخواهیم کشت.» پس با دو طناب نو او را بستند و با خود بردند. | 13 |
And they said unto him, thus, No; for we will [only] bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand; but we will in no-wise kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
| چون سامسون به لحی رسید، فلسطینی‌ها از دیدن او بانگ برآوردند. در این هنگام روح خداوند بر سامسون قرار گرفت و طنابهایی که به دستهایش بسته شده بود مثل نخی که به آتش سوخته شود از هم باز شد. | 14 |
When he was come unto Lechi, the Philistines shouted against him; but the Spirit of the Lord came suddenly over him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax threads that are burnt with fire, and his bands melted from off his hands.
| آنگاه استخوان چانهٔ الاغی مرده را که بر زمین افتاده بود برداشت و با آن هزار نفر از فلسطینی‌ها را کشت. | 15 |
And he found a fresh jaw-bone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and smote therewith a thousand men.
| سپس گفت: «با چانه‌ای از یک الاغ از کشته‌ها پشته‌ها ساخته‌ام، با چانه‌ای از یک الاغ یک هزار مرد را من کشته‌ام.» | 16 |
And Samson said, With a jaw-bone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw-bone of an ass have I smitten a thousand men.
| سپس چانهٔ الاغ را به دور انداخت و آن مکان را رَمَت‌لَحی (یعنی «تپهٔ استخوان چانه») نامید. | 17 |
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jaw-bone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lechi.
| سامسون بسیار تشنه شد. پس نزد خداوند دعا کرده، گفت: «امروز این پیروزی عظیم را به بنده‌ات دادی؛ ولی اکنون از تشنگی می‌میرم و به دست این بت‌پرستان گرفتار می‌شوم.» | 18 |
And he became very thirsty, and he called on the Lord, and said, Thou hast granted through the hand of thy servant this great deliverance; and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
| پس خداوند از داخل گودالی که در آنجا بود آب بر زمین جاری ساخت. سامسون از آن آب نوشید و روحش تازه شد. سپس آن چشمه را عین‌حقوری (یعنی «چشمهٔ مردی که دعا کرد») نامید. این چشمه تا به امروز در آنجا باقیست. | 19 |
But God clave a hollow place that was at Lechi, and there came forth water out of it; and he drank, and his spirit came again, and he revived; wherefore he called the name thereof 'En-hakkore, which is in Lechi unto this day.
| سامسون مدت بیست سال رهبری اسرائیل را به عهده داشت، ولی فلسطینی‌ها هنوز هم بر سرزمین آنها مسلط بودند. | 20 |
And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
