| یک روز که سامسون به تمنه رفته بود، دختری فلسطینی توجه او را جلب نمود. | 1 |
Nowe Samson went downe to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims,
| چون به خانه بازگشت جریان را با پدر و مادرش در میان گذاشت و از آنها خواست تا آن دختر را برایش خواستگاری کنند. | 2 |
And he came vp and told his father and his mother and saide, I haue seene a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistims: now therfore giue me her to wife.
| آنها اعتراض نموده، گفتند: «چرا باید بروی و همسری از این فلسطینی‌های بت‌پرست بگیری؟ آیا در بین تمام خاندان و قوم ما دختری پیدا نمی‌شود که تو با او ازدواج کنی؟» ولی سامسون به پدر خود گفت: «دختر دلخواه من همان است. او را برای من خواستگاری کنید.» | 3 |
Then his father and his mother sayde vnto him, Is there neuer a wife among the daughters of thy brethren, and among all my people, that thou must go to take a wife of the vncircumcised Philistims? And Samson sayd vnto his father, Giue mee her, for she pleaseth me well.
| پدر و مادر او نمی‌دانستند که دست خداوند در این کار است و بدین وسیله می‌خواهد برای فلسطینی‌ها که در آن زمان بر بنی‌اسرائیل حکومت می‌کردند، دامی بگستراند. | 4 |
But his father and his mother knewe not that it came of the Lord, that he should seeke an occasion against the Philistims: for at that time the Philistims reigned ouer Israel.
| سامسون با پدر و مادرش به تمنه رفت. وقتی آنها از تاکستانهای تمنه عبور می‌کردند شیر جوانی بیرون پریده، به سامسون حمله کرد. | 5 |
Then went Samson and his father and his mother downe to Timnath, and came to ye vineyardes at Timnath: and beholde, a young Lyon roared vpon him.
| در همان لحظه روح خداوند بر او قرار گرفت و با اینکه سلاحی با خود نداشت، شیر را گرفته مثل یک بزغاله آن را درید! اما در این باره چیزی به پدر و مادر خود نگفت. | 6 |
And the Spirit of the Lord came vpon him, and he tare him, as one should haue rent a kid, and had nothing in his hand, neither told he his father nor his mother what he had done.
| وقتی سامسون به تمنه رسید با آن دختر صحبت کرد و او را پسندید. | 7 |
And he went down, and talked with the woman which was beautifull in the eyes of Samson.
| بعد از مدتی، سامسون برای عروسی باز به تمنه رفت. او از جاده خارج شد تا نگاهی به لاشهٔ شیر بیفکند. چشمش به انبوهی از زنبور و مقداری عسل در داخل لاشه افتاد. | 8 |
And within a fewe dayes, when he returned to receiue her, he went aside to see the karkeis of the Lion: and behold, there was a swarme of bees, and hony in the body of the Lyon.
| مقداری از آن عسل را با خود برداشت تا در بین راه بخورد. وقتی به پدر و مادرش رسید کمی از آن عسل را به آنها داد و ایشان نیز خوردند. اما سامسون به ایشان نگفت که آن عسل را از کجا آورده است. | 9 |
And he tooke therof in his handes, and went eating, and came to his father and to his mother, and gaue vnto them, and they did eate: but hee told not them, that he had taken the hony out of the body of the lyon.
| در حالی که پدر سامسون تدارک ازدواج او را می‌دید، سامسون مطابق رسم جوانان آن زمان ضیافتی ترتیب داد و سی نفر از جوانان دهکده در آن شرکت کردند. | 10 |
So his father went down vnto the woman, and Samson made there a feast: for so vsed the yong men to doe.

And when they sawe him, they brought thirtie companions to be with him.
| سامسون به آنها گفت: «معمایی به شما می‌گویم. اگر در این هفت روزی که جشن داریم جواب معما را گفتید، من سی ردای کتانی و سی دست لباس به شما می‌دهم. | 12 |
Then Samson sayd vnto them, I will nowe put forth a riddle vnto you: and if you can declare it me within seuen dayes of the feast, and finde it out, I will giue you thirty sheetes, and thirtie change of garments.
| ولی اگر نتوانستید جواب بدهید، شما باید این لباسها را به من بدهید!» آنها گفتند: «بسیار خوب، معمای خود را بگو تا بشنویم.» | 13 |
But if you cannot declare it mee, then shall yee giue mee thirty sheetes and thirtie change of garments. And they answered him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may heare it.
| سامسون گفت: «از خورنده خوراک بیرون آمد و از زورآور شیرینی!» سه روز گذشت و ایشان نتوانستند جواب معما را پیدا کنند. | 14 |
And he sayd vnto them, Out of the eater came meate, and out of the strong came sweetenesse: and they could not in three dayes expound the riddle.
| روز چهارم همگی آنها نزد زن سامسون رفتند و به او گفتند: «جواب این معما را از شوهرت بپرس و به ما بگو و گرنه خانهٔ پدرت را آتش خواهیم زد و تو را نیز خواهیم سوزانید. آیا این مهمانی فقط برای لخت کردن ما بود؟» | 15 |
And when the seuenth day was come, they said vnto Samsons wife, Entise thine husband, that he may declare vs the riddle, lest wee burne thee and thy fathers house with fire. Haue ye called vs, to possesse vs? is it not so?
| پس زن سامسون پیش او رفته، گریه کرد و گفت: «تو مرا دوست نداری. تو از من متنفری؛ چون برای جوانان قوم من معمایی گفته‌ای، ولی جواب آن را به من نمی‌گویی.» سامسون گفت: «من آن را به پدر و مادرم نیز نگفته‌ام، چطور انتظار داری به تو بگویم!» | 16 |
And Samsons wife wept before him, and said, Surely thou hatest mee and louest mee not: for thou hast put forth a riddle vnto the children of my people, and hast not told it mee. And hee sayd vnto her, Beholde, I haue not told it my father, nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
| ولی او دست بردار نبود و هر روز گریه می‌کرد، تا اینکه سرانجام در روز هفتم مهمانی، سامسون جواب معما را به وی گفت. او نیز جواب را به جوانان قوم خود بازگفت. | 17 |
Then Samsons wife wept before him seuen dayes, while their feast lasted: and when the seuenth day came he tolde her, because she was importunate vpon him: so she told the riddle to the children of her people.
| پس در روز هفتم، پیش از غروب آفتاب آنها جواب معما را به سامسون چنین گفتند: «چه چیزی شیرینتر از عسل و زورآورتر از شیر می‌باشد؟» سامسون گفت: «اگر با ماده گاو من شخم نمی‌کردید، جواب معما را نمی‌یافتید!» | 18 |
And the men of ye citie sayde vnto him the seuenth day before the Sunne went downe, What is sweeter then honie? and what is stronger then a lyon? Then sayd hee vnto them, If yee had not plowed with my heiffer, yee had not found out my riddle.
| آنگاه روح خداوند بر سامسون قرار گرفت و او به شهر اشقلون رفته، سی نفر از اهالی آنجا را کشت و لباسهای آنها را برای سی جوانی که جواب معمایش را گفته بودند، آورد و خود از شدت عصبانیت به خانهٔ پدر خود بازگشت. | 19 |
And the Spirite of the Lord came vpon him, and he went downe to Ashkelon, and slew thirtie men of them and spoyled them, and gaue chaunge of garments vnto them, which expounded the riddle: and his wrath was kindled, and he went vp to his fathers house.
| زن سامسون نیز به جوانی که در عروسی آنها ساقدوش سامسون بود، به زنی داده شد. | 20 |
Then Samsons wife was giuen to his companion, whom he had vsed as his friend.
